Yeah,

That's what I was thinking.

A type surely. Ibe did exceptional well in the Championship. Teixera is doing well but is older and as he said himself is a luxury player.

Ibe although a winger (and a lot of people would call wingers luxury players) seems to have a bit of fight and confidence/balls about him.

And so does Coutinho and Teixeira and eventually so did Suso. All these players have fight and grit in them cliches are trotted out cause people expect them to be light and luxury players, but its not true. What did Ingelthorpe say about Joao having 'Suarez qualities', Joao is another technically gifted iberian playmaker, but he does and can put in a shift and most importantly knows how to use his body to protect the ball and himself.

Closer in style to Will Hughes of Derby. Subtler skills.

Both players have the vision to see a pass. Both players are in their element when both teams play an "expansive" passing game. Requires strikers to run off the ball to receive the passes.

he's back in training... that was some super-fast recovery, that's fantastic news

are we going to loan him out again? imo he's real talent, and sitting on the bench would stop his progress and development... i can't see him getting games ahead of Coutinho and Lallana... maybe as CM he might get more games?

Another full season loan will do him world of good. Even though he is 22 now, his career was stalled by his back injury by at least a couple of years. Therefore, we should almost treat him like a 20 years old player.

I can see him getting games ahead of Lallana, but then i'm super optimistic when it comes to our young players, they've given me reason to be and many a time they outperform more senior experienced members who we feel should automatically be ahead of them in the pecking order, because of said experience.

He should get a decent chance to make an impression given that Coutinho and Firmino will be late back for pre-season.  I'm not sure where he figures going forward, he'd be a great option to have and hopefully he'll get opportunities in the early rounds of the domestic cups and the Europa League.  For me it depends on whether or not he's willing to bide his time and be patient for a chance having had a season of regular first-team football at Brighton.

No way is that going to happen. Ok, in pre season, but if anything, Joao might feature in some cup competitions.

I could see Joao being used maybe in a midfield 3 rather than on a wing, He seemed to play there for Brighton and did very well

Interesting. I thought he had played mainly as a No.10 and would be competing for a space in the two attacking positions next to or behind the striker, but if he can play in the midfield "2" then that increases his chances dramatically, as he's far more likely to get gametime in cups competing with Milner/Henderson/Allen/Can/Rossiter for those 2 positions than he is competing with all our attacking players in the two positions further up the pitch (ie. Firmino/Coutinho/Lallana/Markovic/Ibe/Origi/Ings).

Good performance by Teixeira. Seems to be smart on the ball and knows his surroundings. If he stays he'll surely get a run in the Cup/Euro games.

With Rodgers, it is clear that if a player impresses, he will play for Liverpool. Teixeira looked sharp yesterday in that 3rd midfielder role, and I think if not in the league, he will atleast be given chances in the Europa league and cups to prove himself.

Hope he doesn't suffer like Suso did (to be fair, he doesn't have Sterling slightly in front of him in the pecking order)

If we get a decent Europa draw he can definitely get a few games. If not I'm sure a lower PL or Championship club would shell out a few million given how good he was last year in his first proper season.

He should fare better than Suso who had limited opportunities for us especially last year as we were in the CL rather than Europa.

He plays very similar to deco. Deco was also a late bloomer. He has learnt to hold off tackles during the loan. Does not give away ball very easily now

Perhaps Borell should be our DoF  :D Teixeira was a good spot after only seeing him in 2 games. I like how Teixeira has turned his career around after failing at Brentford. He has played CM at youth level and that is where the vacancy is. He is a bit more robustly built than Coutinho and more creative than Joe Allen, could force his way in.

A friend of mine is a Brentford fan, so went to a few games with him during his loan spell. Utterly brutal league then and clearly struggled with the physicality and seemed to want to get rid of the ball too quickly to avoid being clattered. Plus they bypassed the midfield in most cases.

Seems to have so much more confidence in his physicality based on just one performance against a small team mind you, but still, looks a lot bigger.

Very similar to Coutinho though I think.
It looks to me as if we have signed another 'average' player. I'll hold back my complete opinion until I see the lad play

At Brighton he didn't look out of place physically. He has grown in size and strength and has gotten tad faster as well. He had few bad injuries when he was 19-20 that kept him out for best part of 2 seasons but now he is blossoming into very good player.

Quick recovery :o

He's got the tenacity to his game to be able to play as a CM in the PL, would be great as a option for when we play a 4-4-2 diamond.

Played well, but the main concern's gotta be his competition. Just for 'his position', Firminho/Coutinho/Lallana can all play where he does
Pretty happy with Arse taking it.

My parents are Amex ST holders (although my dad is Red through and through!) so I got updates almost every game. Certainly every game he played the majority of. I also saw 5/6 games myself. Looked absolutely fantastic for 90% of the time I saw him - very often the best player on the pitch. Although when you've Chris O'Grady up top and your midfield is used to a number 9 with the movement of Ulloa a player like Tex is always gonna be the best player on the field!

Brighton play 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 and he was used as the most attacking of the midfield 3 in a 4-3-3 or a 10 in a 4-2-3-1. always on the front foot, always had his head up. As the brighton fan's sang for him...

"He came from Portugal, give him the fucking ball!"

although some minutes on the pitch are probably the best start. Could have a big future, could be a Suso-esque let down. Here's hoping for the former.

I really like Tex and I'd love for him to make it here, he's probably the CM that's most enjoyable to watch from the youth/reserves, but it's hard to see where he'd get gametime for the first team to be honest. Mind you he seems to have added a bit more tenacity to his game, so maybe the deepest midfielder could be a possibility in certain games? He's a good passer and he has the technique and touch to take him away from players when the midfield gets congested. Can't see him ever getting a chance further up though, regardless of formation.

Let's look at it from players competing his most likely position, which is probably a more advanced centre midfielder.

Henderson
Milner
Can
Coutinho
Allen

That is considering that Can may be used more as a defensive midfielder and Coutinho generally in the forward roles.

Based on that, I think he'll get games in the league cup and Europa league personally, and possibly play some games if injuries occur. He's never going to be in contention for the forward roles but for the midfield roles, I think he can get some decent game time.

Article on Joey Texmex by Adam Bate for those who are interested  :wave

Joao Teixeira shines for Liverpool: The Raheem Sterling antidote?

Joao Teixeira’s impressive display was just the boost that Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers needed, writes Adam Bate.

“We’ll look forward,” said Brendan Rodgers. The assertiveness is familiar but the departure of Raheem Sterling has presented a fresh test of the Liverpool manager’s resolve. Taking charge of a football match would have been a relief and an encouraging display by Joao Teixeira offered hope that others are ready and waiting to seize their Anfield chance.

The 22-year-old Portuguese creator was perhaps the stand-out performer in Liverpool’s 4-0 win over a Thai All-Stars team in Bangkok on Tuesday. It was his expert control and pass that set up Lazar Markovic for the opener, before providing the corner for Mamadou Sakho to double the lead. It was a fine effort from a player anxious to impress.

It’s almost a year and a half since Teixeira’s first and last Premier League appearance for Liverpool. Rodgers had praised his “intensity” and “the speed of his game” when calling the attacking midfielder up to the first-team but with Liverpool in the thick of a title race, few expected him to introduce the youngster at Fulham with the match poised at two goals apiece.

Teixeira has since admitted that he was so cold he couldn’t feel his feet on the bench at Craven Cottage, but Rodgers relaxed him by joking that a goal could be enough to take him to that summer’s World Cup in Brazil. Teixeira couldn’t quite find the goal but he did play the pass to Daniel Sturridge that led to Steven Gerrard’s last-minute winner from the spot.

Former Liverpool great Ian St John was soon claiming that Teixeira reminded him of a young Wayne Rooney and the player himself might have been forgiven for believing he’d cracked Premier League life. Instead, he was made to wait for his big breakthrough and encouraged to develop further physically.

Perhaps the example of the similarly gifted Suso informed the decision. For while the Spanish youngster was sent on loan to La Liga, Teixeira took a different route and embarked on the challenge of the Tuesday-Saturday grind that comes with life in the Championship. Last season was spent on loan in what turned out to be a relegation battle with Brighton.

“I’ve always played in winning teams, when I was at Sporting and at Liverpool as well,” Teixeira told The Guardian earlier this year. “This has been a different mentality. We have to fight to survive. It’s a different experience but a good one.” And Teixeira shone, picking up Brighton’s young player of the year award.

There were braces against Ipswich and Birmingham but it was the Liverpool loanee’s creativity that really stood out on the south coast. He created 63 chances for Brighton – 50 per cent more than anyone else at the club – and played twice as many successful through-balls as any of his team-mates. In fact, he ranked among the top three in the Championship.

Liverpool supporters would have been delighted by the way that Teixeira retained possession under pressure in Bangkok but while the Thai test was not the toughest, that ability to collect the ball on the half-turn in the hustle and bustle of the Championship can be considered rather more encouraging.

“He’s young and he’s playing in a very demanding league, but what he does have is a physicality about him, which I think helps,” said Brighton boss Chris Hughton. “He obviously has a natural ability about him.” That combination might not quite be Rooney-like but the fact that Teixeira is aware of the challenge means half the battle is already won.

“I’ve improved a lot,” he said in February. “I’m a different player, more confident and I’ve got Championship experience. I feel stronger than the start of the season and I’ve been improving on my defensive side and I’m trying to improve every game. When you play regularly you always improve. In training I’m trying to improve physically too.”

He seems to have more presence than Suso and is slightly a different type of player. His back injury set him back a year in development. He can be a very good player. Lets not forget he was the best player on the pitch against us for Sporting. Better than Sterling was for us. There's some talent there for sure.
Thank Fowler we're not getting Caulker
