Welcome back Joe Gomez! (hopefully)  :hally :wellin :thumbup

What a good player joe was turning out to be before he got injured. It'll be good to see him play!

Nice little article on Tommy Tynan, ex-Reds reserve striker and Argyle legend on the game and the 'Scouse Greens'  ;D

Just been reading the article in The Echo about Gomez. Klopp certainly rates him and watching his return will be one of the most interesting things about this game.

Was also a good read about how much the reserve side has changed since Klopp took over. Out of the 14 players at our third round game last year, six have left permanently and the article reckons only three have a realistic chance of making it with us. One of my biggest grumbles the past few years was about the amount of deadwood we have carried but our Jurgen seems to have that necessary ruthless side to him and is doing that part of his job efficiently. (Always with a smile though.)

The bookies are only giving me a miserly 6/1 for my fiver on 3-0.

Is it Jomez or Joemez?  Never did get to the bottom of that one.

Has to be Jomez. Anyone who disagrees is a dumb poo poo nose.

I agree but I think it will be Lucas for Klaven who may well be needed for the next 2 (bigger) games. I think one of Can / Gini will deffo start. Likewise I agree Origi plays. Maybe Lallana too but that will be it for the first teamers I reckon.
              Karius
 TAA, Lucas and Gomez, Moreno.
    Lallana, Paul Stewart, Can,
       Eljaria,  Origi,  Wilson

        ?????

I think that line up will be pretty close to what Klopp goes with mostly youth and fringe with a couple first team to help get the job done. Either way looking forward to it taking my daughter up to her first game so hope it's a exciting one for her.

After the crazy holiday fixtures, have a feeling Klopp will give a run out to the kids with maybe 3 first team starters in the mix..

Karius

TAA   Gomez  Lucas  Moreno

Ejaria   Can   Stewart

Lallana  Origi   Woodburn

I'm guessing Ojo will start of Lallana myself. Going to need him fresh for Wednesday. It would be nice if Wilson got some minutes as well. He's deserved it after recent performances for the U23's in my opinion.

Great news that Gomez is being considered for tomorrow's match. I'd definitely prefer to not see any of our first team certainties playing, they could all do with a night off. The younger players deserve a chance to show us their talents.

                      Karius
Moreno-Klavan/Lucas- Gomez- TAA
          Ejaria- Stewart- Can
         Ojo- Origi- Woodburn

It is important to do well in the Cups but we have to prioritize the league, our squad depth is a bit weak and we need to protect our first teamers from burnout.
I’ve plenty links to the clubs playing and backroom staff as many on here know thank you very much. Fair enough, I admire your optimism. But you’re absolute ostriches if you think this squad, even with 2 or 3 new, “cut price” players with potential get us anywhere close

Fair point.. but I think Klopp has always valued a good cup run.. 2 finals in his first season.. semis of the EFL cup this season..

Hence he might go with maybe 3 seniors.. but Ojo is a good shout and could be in the starting line up..

The bench will be interesting.

Will Klopp include youngsters like Wilson or will he
pack it out with senior players just in case.

Migs is a given. Clyne, Lovren, Pedro, Lallana, Wilson and Dunn

Not sure if Dunn is cup tied.

But then you can't really give seniors two weeks off before the Utd game either. It's a difficult decision to how to approach these two cup games before our game of the season. Guess probably the best way would be to use players tomorrow who will be rested midweek and vice-versa.

You can literally just read the post above mine... I would just love us to win any trophy and hate anyone who states otherwise.

that person didn't say anything like that though. and was responding to someone fishing by saying it was must-win.

if you have a problem with Anfield89 saying this:
It's not going to have a big impact on the first team should the young ones slip up. Obviously nobody wants to go out but Wednesday is the priority.

then i think your problem is ultimately with klopp, not people on rawk

I'm pretty sure we'll be starting our strongest team for Soton considering it's a semi final.

Would like to see Harry Wilson, the only lot of the reserve crop to not yet get his chance, with Mane gone agains league 2 opposition and him being the best u23 player this season, surely he warrants a chance, maybe?

Yeah he has been absolutely outstanding in the 23's this season. Something like 16 goals and maybe as many assists. He seems to have grown into his body now and is looking to really fulfill that early promise. I am actually very surprised he hasn't been around the 1st team yet. Deserves minutes.

If he'd said game of the season 'so far' he might be right. But we've potentially a cup final to look forward too, plus probably more important league games to come.

They are a very tall side. They've also got the fastest striker in League 2.
I watched them in the 2nd round at Rodney Parade. Not a lot of difference to Newport. Result could have gone either way.

Great to see Gomez back, looks a good side. Important to have a few more experienced players in there too and on the bench if needed.  Chance for some of the younger lads to stake a claim.
