to be honest for all the money Man City have spent over the last 5 years, they are not that good.

They really are, aren't they?

For all the hundreds of millions, they're still utterly reliant on players signed by Mancini. If just one of our attacking players had actually been on it today, I dare say we'd have steamrolled them.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Just keep plugging away, incredible that we are still in this race with all the injuries we have had and Chelsea's record tying run. So much strength, endurance and intelligence across all 11 men, never seen quite this before in a Liverpool team.

Can played well in the DM role, nice to know he can slot in there.

I was most pleased with how we closed that match out.

Around the 55-65 min mark we looked like we were fried but then we got our legs back.

Great work at the end to time waste / smartly win throw ins and corners.  They can't score if they're pinned near their own goal  :-*

Huge win.

Frustratingly poor in possession, but a resolute defensive performance.

Get in!

Not at our best but we played a very different yet efficient game. City had quite a bit of the ball but never really looked threatening at all.

2nd half of the season begins now we're very much in the race.

Adam Lallana is the epitomy of everything Klopp loves/wants in a player. Tactically brilliant/discipline/runs all day and just the nous to know where to be, when to press and when to create space for his team mates. Brilliant assist tonight. Couldn't be happier with and for him.
It's true to say that if Shankly had told us to invade Poland we'd be queuing up 10 deep all the way from Anfield to the Pier Head.

Boss. We saw out a one nil win, we were the better team, my teamwork over mercenaries theory was vindicated, we shut up the bitter blue moon twats, we closed the gap on Chelsea, we knocked down a key rival.

Pep did that long ball crap he did against Dortmund... He seemed out of ideas. Klopp had him sussed. We tired a bit but we were better. I'm not afraid of City. We did them today  ;D

If he does it shouldn't be at the expense of Klavan, he's been fantastic since he came into the team.

Origi coming on seemed to stem their flow, he was great at keeping the ball at their end. Small point but such an important player we have in that respect.

Well a shit game imo but you will take an ugly 3points all day
Neither were great going forward with lots of nerves on show making mistakes

Probably showed them too much respect and found ourselves deep but tha said we got to see our ability in sitting and defending - much critisised part of our game was very very good against a side full time f to talent.

Henderson with heel problems again is not great news.

To be fair, people should probably always include a source rather than just state something about a player having an injury.

Klopp's tactics were spot on..

We weren't manic in our pressing today.. Whether that was down to the opposition or with an eye on the next match I don't know..

But either way we shut them out.. They didn't have a sniff, let alone a clear cut chance..

We could have had 2 more, had Firmino controlled in the first half or if he had released the ball for Lallana a fraction of a second earlier for the one on one..

Gini was superb today.. Apart from his goal, his all round play all over the pitch was superb.. Loved how he helped the ball out of play late on with a fresh Navas bearing down into the box..

Hope Hendo is OK and was taken off as a precaution??

Lovren and Klavan were boss again today.. Only the odd hairy moment, but were comfortable for the most part.. and another clean sheet for the pair.. Does Matip come straight back in when fit??

Milner was immense again today.. For me he is the best left back in the league right now..

Clyne was his usual solid self and full of running.. always offered an outlet down the right..

Origi was boss after he came on.. And the kid knows how to hold the ball up and keep it in the corner..

Lallana was outstanding in the first half.. great cross for the goal..

Bobby and Mane put in shift, but didn't offer as much cutting edge as they can.. Bobby gave the ball away a few times, which put us under pressure..

But my Man of the Match was Klopp.. Brought in Can for Origi.. and we bossed the midfield..
I honestly thought we would struggle when the teams came out.. Their front six looked scary on paper.. but thankfully that's all they were.. scary on paper.. Klopp has such an amazing record against the other top sides.. What a way to end 2016 or star 2017, depending on which part of the world you are celebrating in..

Onwards and upwards..

Edit: Migs' kicking was superb..  ;D
