Let's be honest, the players put in the work set out for them by the club. If that's a few hours a day with rest because that's what will help them recover then that's what they do, if it's long days pushing themselves then likewise, that's what they'll do.

Far too many expert pundits seem to think any player selected for the 1st XI must be the complete package the moment they step on the pitch.

Can wasnt brought in to play as many games as he did last season. The fact he did is tantamount to his talent and application even when he ended up in a back three and then right back yet this season under Klopp he has kicked on again.

As for last nights performance? I thought he was stunning in what was a very good team performance. He bossed the midfield like Masch and passed efficiently like Alonso when needed too. If he keeps developing and we can hold onto him we will have one hell of a player.

Yeah this is all very simplistic / a reason to ridicule the last manager - he wasn't this good as a central midfielder by a long shot last season especially off the ball - where he's massively improved in the last 12/18 months -  and he is really suited to playing RCB in a 3 (RB was a step to far - that's fair enough!). In fact he's still been playing in defence for Germany hasn't he?
He was excellent last night and he's improving at a scary rate which is great for us

The story of Emre Can may well be written in the book of footballing greats. He certainly seems to have it all ahead of him. Whether he will be a central defender, a midfielder, or something else entirely, it seems inconceivable that, barring some terrible misfortune, he will go on to be one of the top performers in the game.

Signed from Leverkusen, for just under £10m in 2014, Can has already become an integral part of Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool. His signature was another coup for the reds' transfer committee, it was widely believed that Leverkusen were mainly developing him for sale back to Bayern. His power, composure and technical ability all caught the eyes of the Liverpool scouts, and Leverkusen were made an offer that already looks like a bargain.

Tall, strong and muscular, it is hard to write for long about Emre Can without slipping into unintentional homoerotica. His perfectly styled hair, manly beard and big brown come-to-bed eyes, combined with his sheer quality and athleticism make him something of a superman, something a bit special, something even beautiful. His workrate and skill have made him an instant fan favourite and there seems little limit to what he can achieve. And if the football doesn't work out, he could probably make a lot of money as a porn star.

Like Yesil, Can is German born, but eligible to play for Turkey. A regular in the German U21 side, it seems unlikely that Jogi Loew would let such a prize slip through his fingers, which raises an interesting question. At Liverpool, Can has established himself as one of the wider centre backs in a back three. He has also played in central midfield. Germany usually play four across the back, which means he would probably make his senior debut in an unfamiliar position. He would no doubt take that in his stride, he is a model of German unfussiness after all, but the alternative would be for the World Cup winning manager to re-organise his side around the young prospect.

That would be a bold move, but there have surely been worse ideas than building a team around a man like Can?
