LFC friendly pubs in London - General guide
« on: January 2, 2007, 08:01:35 pm »
Edit [11 Nov 2015]: This all started with Dave's post which is quoted below.

All the really helpful information that RAWK members have contributed over the years has now been collated into five posts which can be found on page 36 of this thread.(Mod note - Thank you Callaghan!)

People have commented throughout the thread that it's hard to find a pub to watch the game in London. I don't think any of us realised just how many pubs had been submitted here, though - and now they should be a lot easier to find. Kudos to Armin for his foresight in creating this resource all those years ago.

Defining the border between east and north London is particularly tricky and there are other places which are close to each other but in a different section. So if you're near a border between areas, you'll have to look in more than one post. It's not perfect but it's a lot easier than reading through 36 pages.

Here are the links to take you straight there:

Pubs in central London
Pubs in north London
Pubs in east London
Pubs in south London
Pubs in west London

Hi,

Firstly, since this is my first post, hello and happy new year.

I'm after info on LFC friendly pubs in Islington.  Does anyone know of a good place to watch the game around the Finsbury Park area?  I'm moving down there in a couple of days and a place to watch the match of a weekend is essential.

Cheers,
Dave

Edit by Armin [3 Jan 2007]: Hope Dave doesn't mind if we broaden the thread...

Hello mate, Happy New Year to you too.

I don't really know London that well but there is a place at Barbican that used to be called The Extra Time Bar, the names changed now but they still show Liverpool matches.

Out of the station, turn right, first right and it's on the right about 75 metres down.

I know quite a few people go there, downstairs has big screens and supposedly a good atmosphere.

Maybe there's a supporters club in London that you could contact? If there isn't details of it on here I'm sure you could get it off the official site.
Why do people quote other people for the sigs?  What' the point?

Are you sure Extra Time are still going? I heard they had had another revamp...

The problem with Finsbury Park is that it's basically Highbury. I live in Camden Town (about 10 minutes south on the 29 or 253) and if I need to see the match I'll go to the Constitution which is beside the Canal in St Pancras Way NW1. I don't think it's exclusively a "Liverpool" pub as such (I go because it's my local) but the Landlady's a Red and there's a 2001 Treble flag above the bar.

If you don't mind travelling down to west London there's the Black Horse in Hounslow that shows all the Liverpool games through the arab channels ( all the Saturday 3 oclock games) but with english commentry.
Being a liverpool pub all the Liverpool games given priority and are shown on the two main screens in the pub while up to five other games can also be sceeen simultanousely around the pub.
Always a brilliant atmosphere around game time as about 80% of the fans are liverpool fans also serves brilliant food

P.s Highly recommend the lamb kebab rolls with extra chilli (Kam special)

Already some good info on this thread. Rather than keeping it just for Islington if others want to submit London pubs here I'll add them to a UK section of the Guide - at some point anyway...

The Alex just outside Clapham Common tube station isn't a bad place to watch a live game. 2 big screens upstairs and one down mean they can cover most games. No particular liverpool connection though...
Well, I don't know what it is, but there's definitely something going on upstairs

Another for the guide is The Clayton Arms, Queens Rd, Peckham.

Not especially LFC orientated (more Milwall) but they have 2 projector screens which is great on CL nights.

Haven't been there since 25.05.05, mind, as I got homechoice since and always have the boys over for games.
Has Steven Gerrard scored a goal even more important than the one he got against Olympiakos - Is this the start of something BIG?

How did I never hear of this place after living in Hounslow for so many years!!!??? I used to go to the South Western in Whitton as they had the occasional Liverpool 3pm. But the place was rough as fu*k.

Not Islington but someone was asking where gets the 3pm Sat games.

The Corrib Rest in Queens Park is a good one.

Irish pub so a fair LFC support.

Good natured and large screens

If you find a good lfc pub in Islington let me know

The Ship on Westferry Road, Isle of Dogs E14 also used to show Saturday 3pm games. It was my local when I lived in London but I left about a year ago so I'm not sure whether they still do.

Are a few decent pubs in Newington Green (still N1 and a 5 min bus ride from Finsbury Park).

One is the Weavers on Newington Green Road - shows all matches - and the other is the Army and Navy (has the Arab channels for Sat games).

Both are friendly enough - been going to the Weavers since I moved down here 6 years ago.

The Extra Time bar has changed it's name to Masque Bar and have tried to watch the EC group games there before xmas it's not quite as Red friendly anymore.

Having tried to watch the Bordeaux (h) and found out that it was closed to a private party for, even though the place is usually packed to the rafters with reds, and 'not showing the game because sky is broken' even though it was showing upstairs for PSV (h) me and my mates have not been back since.

I more reliable venue for footie in general in the F3K next to West Kensington tube station. I know this is in the heart of Chelsea but the comedy is that you'd never know if they had any fans in there or no. The landlord is a Red so the EC games are always on and every time we've been to watch a Prem game it's been on as he seems prepared to get whatever feed is necessary!

The atmosphere is usually spot on as there are always lots of games on so you can get a bit of banter with other fans and it's open till late if you want to celebrate or drown your sorrows.

Hope this helps.

I often go to the King's head on essex rd not far from where essex rd meets upper st, about a 5 min walk from angel tube.
Not sure if it is specifically a 'liverpool' pub but they have the arab channel and they always have the liverpool game on and everyone in there seems to support them. one of the bar ladies was wearing a liverpool shirt for the game on saturday as well.
It was quite funny being and north london playing tottenham and when garcia's goal went in the whole place went nuts hahaha.

Wasnt a landlord taken to court about it recently and won?

Would have thought if that was true it had set a precedent. All the boozers round here now openly advertise they have the 3pm's on.

I think they are having big problems bringing successful prosecutions against landlords:

http://www.digitalsales.co.uk/courtbattles.htm

I think with so many legal precedents people are more confident in showing the games.

its not as bad as it seems - as in we've never had any problems.

remember not long after moving here we played Milwall in the CC and I was the only one in colours in the Clayton and had no probs whatsoever. there are a few rentboys but genrally I remember there only being some old Milwall lags with tattooed necks but friendly enough.

maybe I never had much problem as the walk home is only 5 mins.

will never forget the CL final there, with our flags and singing! was deserted that night. only about 15 of us (mainly all Reds). felt really exclusive.

Dave I'm a scouser and have lived in and around north london since 1986, including islington, so I know the area well.Finsbury Park has a few decent pubs around the tube station including the Worlds End, where you can watch the game and pick up birds to boot. You'll also find a decent crowd at the famous cock next to highbury & islington tube. Head north from finsbury park and you'll find crouch end, which is a bit posher and the Kings Head pub has big screens.

There are plenty of places to avoid around there, but they'll be obvious to you. Enjoy your time in London, just down go south of the river.

not sure if it's officially an LFC pub but there doesn't seem to be any shortage of supporters watching whenever they play - as I say, even when playing london clubs the liverpool supporters outnumber. should be interesting when we play arsenal though, considering it's gooner territory.
Not sure if I'd want to see the owners with their kit off to be honest, I'm fairly sure they are 50+! haha

Isn't there a Wetherspoons about?  They're usually reasonably neutral.  However, moving to Islington in time for us to play Arsenal is a bit of an Omen in some way or another.  Look for a pub full of Spurs fans unless they're playing at the same time.

The Royal George in the road on the east side of Euston Station, near the entrance always shows the LFC Sky games in preference to whoever else is on, including all the London Teams. (No dodgy Mideast stations though). I think the Manager is a Red !!
Good screens in all bars and always some real ale, sausage and mash or sausage butties recommended.

Down the road from there in New Cross there's the Amersham Arms on the corner of the high rd and Amersham Rd opposite New Cross station.  When I used to live round there they had massive projector screens in two rooms. Not sure if its specifically an LFC pub but definitely safe to watch game there.

Anyone based in East London, get down to the Red Cow in Ilford. The landlord is Irish and a great bloke, let's you bring in your own food if you want. Even left the remote control with someone when he decided to pop out for a while. Usually puts on the Liverpool game, unless it clashes with West Ham. As it's Hammers territory, more of his locals are Hammers. We need more reds in there to make a stronger showing. The occasional group of mancs sometimes walks in and demand that their game is shown, so we need the numbers.
*With such simplicity the European cup is won.

Ages ago, but never for the footie. The owners were Gooners last time I went, but I believe it's changed hands since.

I'm fortunate in that I can usually get a good stream on the laptop at home, but if there was a local showing the satellite streams with a few Reds going, I'd be up for that rather than being Billy-no-mates here at home!

I was there for Spurs, only a few reds dotted about amongst Jol's blue army.

They usually show 2/3 different matches at the same time, so we are on fairly often.  Was in there when Mellor got his last minute winner, prob 20 of us v 300 Gooners ;D
