Just caught the episode 1 of season 6, painfully bad.
All the charm and charisma from previous seasons is not here, the acting looks really staged - rather then intentional OTT.
New characters seem pointless, and its just not very funny, I think this is the last season for this program if this is the standard, just not good enough

Ouch. First negative review I've seen.

I'm being honest.  I like community, but it has been effected by losing  more main characters.
It also feels slightly rushed - I mean shotting quickly to keep costs down.  I read the reason one of the characters who left didnt return was because of the long hours sometimes 16hrs a day  - shooting long days only happens when you have too many setups to shot, i.e. cramming everything into the can asap

Well that was mental.
I did enjoy it. Feels a bit like season five. Time will tell for this one.

Feel like I need to watch them again to get a good idea.

I rewatch the first 3 series fairly often. Not really inclined to ever go any further, not sure I'll bother with the new ones. Actually thought 4 wasn't too bad - 5 was less enjoyable for me although both had high points. I was still very disappointed when they announced it was cancelled. But they've lost so many characters now it's almost not the same show, they're just clinging on for dear life. Big shame it ended up that way.

Of course I should probably watch S6 before judging

I finished season 5 over the weekend and to be honest honest I won't be going out of my way to watch 6. It really peaked in s2 and it's been in decline since. Really feel it's run its course. Losing half of the original cast is something most shows would never recover from, except maybe a soap, and I really don't want to think of community in those terms.

I actually thought season 5 was as good as season 3 at times. Season 6 has started off stronger than season 4, which is the minimum expectation.

Are we expecting Troy to make a comeback this season?

Horrible how this show has been royally fucked up the arse again and again.

Season 5 was about as good as it could be, with some incredibly clever episodes sprinkled in there.

The issues with characters dropping out is it's always going to take a handful of episodes to test the water and see how they fit in. I remember how much the characters massively developed within the first 5 episodes of the original season, Abed for example completely changed within that time frame.

Hard to get momentum going with a character retention akin to a call centre.

Shame on you if you didn't like Rafi's (The League- he was basically the same character) cameo in the last episode and all the theater scenes with Chang. Great stuff.

It's terrifying when he turns up in other shows.

The worst was when he turned up in Modern Family and was dating Hayley.  Full on parental nightmare that. ;D

I laughed a fair few times throughout the two episodes. It is missing Troy, Shirley and Pearce though.

I am not missing any of them very much, by the time they left, none of them were really anything beyond a foil for more important characters on the show.

It will be interesting to see if the two new ones are up to the challenge to standing out and defining themselves in their own right beyond how they relate to the regulars, the likes of Chang and the Dean have their problems as characters but they are not totally dependent on the main cast.

I can't envisage a scenario where the new female character (which as you see don't know her name or bothered to look for it-  very familiar face though from Criminal Minds I think ) will make any kind of difference. Supplemental at best.

Review of the latest episode:

“Party Rights” also demonstrates the peril of a two-plot structure with additional length. Editing almost always makes things better. I’ve watched Parks & Recreation episodes on Hulu, then watched the director’s cut and I’ve never felt like “They were idiots to think they could cut that joke.” It almost seems like the extra length is being used to compensate for the smaller size of the Greendale world, but the new Community has to do more with less, not just make more with less.

I definitely felt like the episode was too long. If they'd compressed it into 20 minutes I would have enjoyed it more. There's a lot of 'meh' material.

The murder attempt was one of the best gags from Community in a while though.

I think in this whole season so far I've only laughed 3 times, all involving The Dean. Really poor overall in my opinion. Shame really.

Agree that the hackers episode was dreadful and easily the worst episode in the entire shows run.

The new black guy has been quite funny I feel.

"I don't own a TV"

*blank stare*

And

"What are we up to now? Megabytes?"

Jess: "Terabytes"

"Sons of bitches they did it!"

But yeah, not many great moments. Some out of place references too... like the True Detective bit with the child in the car at the end? Wasn't really that great, Whiplash was another. Parody episodes used to parody entire genres or styles in a really clever way - not always such specific things.

I caught a few epsidoes of Community from time to time but never made a concerted effort to watch it all, which is bizarre given how obvious a fit it is for me in terms of comedy I like.

Started watching the lot last week, just finished season 2. Such a good show.

Re-watching from the beginning, so excellent.

I don't understand how anyone can claim they weren't arsed about Troy, Pierce and Shirley leaving. Even if they weren't the strongest characters they're so essential to the group and all three have their moments. We've also lost John Oliver this season.

The show lost it's heart in the 4th season and it's been patch work ever since. Though there were some gems in the 5th season. I think it's impossible to keep it going though would welcome a movie with the original cast.

completely agree with this. I find S1-3 really re-watchable, after then it's more of a grind for me.

I'm half-way through Series 3 and will watch the lot, but I'm certainly not looking forward to Troy and Pierce leaving.

Less bothered about Shirley, I do find her character quite annoying sometimes and rarely particularly funny.

What's everyone's favourite episode?

Just finished rewatching the first 3 seasons and there are so many contenders.

I think Pillows and Blankets is a very strong contender, the documentary format is on point and there are so many funny moments.

Good shouts are also the Dungeons and Dragons episode, Law and Order and the School Commercial with the Dean at his very best.
:D
