The same fella owns several bars in the area, none of which are having any problems.(to people's knowledge)

One can only deduce then, that it's either down to finances, ie: having so many premises on the go, that you can't sustain them all*

or a problem with that particular premesis regarding the police or the licence.  Like maybe the licencee has left, and they havent got a replacement etc.

* Although the Jac is the most historic, that could be the least profitable of all their premesis, so something has to give.

All gueswork of course.

Ruined it anyway with all the refurb shite, binning the jukebox off and getting a DJ, getting rid of the open mic night on a Thursday. Even though they left the basement pretty much alone, it didn't "feel" the same. It wasn't the Jac any more anyway, imo.

A great shame if the Jac has gone for good. The place has history and one of the best places in town to have a bevy.

Aye.  It's been going since 1957.

Even if it is shut. I can't see it being shut that long.

Not on Slater street, where there's money to be made.

The only concern being that if someone rips the arse out of it, and it loses all of that history.

That's already been done. This is what upstairs in the Jac looked like before it closed:

Jeez....I hadn't stepped foot in the place since it had reopened as I'd heard it was all a bit distant from what the Jac was about, but that's ridiculous.

....and I wasn't even the biggest fan of the Jac.
......and could he play!

AN ICONIC Liverpool bar best known as the venue which first hosted The Beatles has gone into liquidation.

Directors of The Jacaranda Club, in Slater Street, filed to wind up the business with Companies House on Friday after staff were allegedly told their employment was “finished”.

A source told the ECHO staff were called into a meeting on Monday October 31 and told the popular city nightspot was “dissolved”.

The source said: “As the Sunday night before was the last day of trading, they said ‘your employment is finished’. Some people asked what about redundancy and recent pay slips and they were told to claim off the government for redundancy.”

Administrator Milner Boardman and Partners were brought in to dissolve the company.

In June, the same insolvency firm was also asked to dissolve other companies owned by The Jacaranda Club Ltd directors Graham Clarke and Peter Antonio.

Reports to creditors filed at Companies Houses revealed the collapse of those companies – Liver Café, Liver Café (Liverpool) and Liver Leisure, trading as EBGBS, Heebie Jeebie’s and The Peacock – left creditors at least £1m out of pocket.

The firms racked up debts owed to HM Revenue and Customs and Marston’s Brewery. After a review by administrators, the three businesses were deemed insolvent and the best course of action to sell them as going concerns so they could continue trading.

Peacock (NW), a limited company set up by Mr Clarke and Mr Antonio, stepped in to purchase the assets of all three companies. Administrators from Milner Boardman said they did not market the assets before the “pre-pack” sale because they had “insufficient funds” when appointed.

But they said the offers made by Peacock (NW) were fair and represented market value.

Although the deal saved more than 100 jobs, Marston’s is owed approximately £550,000 across the three companies, but it agreed a “rollover” of its secured debt to Peacock (NW).

At the time of the administration, the taxman was owed £470,478, while the amount due to trade creditors was £26,000. The rest of the unsecured debt related to inter-company loans.

The ECHO contacted Mr Clarke but he was unavailable for comment.

Reading the above news report, the main problem that it appears to have had crooked fucking owners.

Nice little scam that looks.  Get companies in to do up your bars.  Dissolve the companies owning the bars to avoid paying your bills.  Transfer the ownership of the properties to a new company.  Avoid paying your tax bill, avoid paying any redundancy, shed your debts.  Off you go again. It looks bent as fuck, but then the whole sector is in fairness.

the problem the jac had/has is that its on slater st. Shite area.

One of the city's best drinking areas if you know where you're going.

Any recommended places to go to on a night out?

And places you'd advise to steer clear of?

Yeah. I've been there a few times over the last month.

I've recently taken a load of photo's of the place.

I myself have been a moderate and at times heavy drinker throughout my life, yet have ever had a problem with it. I have cut back or stopped drinking at various times in my life, for health related reasons (not to do with drink, but to do with prescribed medication for another ailment, not being alcohol compatible).

Even now, I like the odd pint or two (or ten-once in a while) as most of us do.

One of my best mates has had a big problem with alcohol in the past, and I always kind of think, there for the grace of god go I.

Liverpool being the drinking capital of the UK, I actually think they're trying to do a good thing, and I like their philosophy of trying to give people an alternative on a night out, other than drinking.
They also do food, and have live bands on and the like.

They're also involved in some AA stuff or anti-addiction meetings etc. to help people kick their addictions.

They're open from about 9.00 in the morning. If I'm up that end of town,  I often give them my patronage during the day, even just for a good cup of tea and cake, or a lite bite throughout the day.

They may be swimming against the tide in Liverpool, with the amount of heavy drinkers in this city, and they could of done with being in a bit more of a higher profile place for passing trade.

That said. They are the first of their kind in this city, so who knows if it will take off, or die a death over the coming months or years.

Based on Parr Street, about 100yards up from MelloMello or Santa Chapito's (which are on the corner of Parr St./ Slater Street).

If you are up that way sometime, give them a go.

If it's not for you, then fair enough.

I actually think it's quite a brave venture, in a city like Liverpool. Certainly being the party city we are.

Based on this, the fancy clubs/bars at albert dock doesn't seems like my kind of things, while it looks like I normally would have a better time in some of the tradidtional pubs..

Indeed.

Real ale and pies or cocktails and herbal highs
Hard Rock or Behatted Indie Cocks
Hipster underground cool or footballers, gangsters and their wannabee molls
Live music or scouse house
Easy to pull orange birds or LGB friendly
Underage or Old Men and Slippers
etc etc

I know it must all come as a bit of a culture shock for someone from a small town with a choice of two identikit chain pubs which are equally shite and kick out at fighting time but you've gotta help us out here

Actually, being from Bournemouth, the nightlife is very good. But it gets very repetitive after a while.

Basically, I'm only 20 so I would mainly be going out to pull birds.

I was in a pub on Saturday in town, I couldn't tell you where it is again, but it was really busy and if I remember correctly it was the only pub in it's small area. The pub's name was something like 'San C...', can't remember the second word but it definitely began with C.

It was good, it was like a house with loads of little rooms and small bars in each one.

Anyone have any idea which one it is? :D

In that location you are better asking are there ANY boozers near by.

There is the Cains Brewery Tap next to the entrance to, as the name suggests, the Cains Brewery.  There is also a pub called the Brewhouse in the CUC building which is just across the road from the Picket

The nearest nice pub, is the Baltic Fleet, on Wapping.

There's a nearer pub in the Beer House on Greenland Street, but last time I was in there, I found it to be a little on the scruffy side.

If you know the walk, well enough, it's only about a five-seven minute walk from say, Slater Street, or Duke Street.

Edit: I forgot about The Brewery Tap, and The Coburgh.

Always hit Concert Sq when over for a match and end up going to a few of Modo,Walkabout,The Lime Kiln & Baa Bar and used to end the night at the Funky Box (still closed I think?   ???

Over with a few different mates than usual and possibly thinking of checking out Matthew St. We're all between 24 & 28 but if we are just looking to try get our bit off anything that moves are we better off staying around Concert Square, or is there anywhere to find the easy-girls in Matthew St and if so where.

That sir, depends on what variety of female you seek.  Students are in Concert Square, hen nights/21sts etc are Mathew Street...
She keeps getting texts off him saying "Oh please take me back, I love you and I'm still not over you". We read them together naked and then we laugh about it. Then she blows me off.
