Getting angry at the right people - just lock it
« on: May 23, 2010, 07:40:27 am »
Just lock this thread - it's abundantly clear that everyone who's interested in getting involved is now involved, and we'll continue accordingly.

-----

The campaign is now live and we've started this fresh thread to draw a line under the development work down on the original thread, which you can browse at your leisure here.

http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index.php?topic=257639.0

We are in control
First point - we are an autonomous campaign. What that means is that we don't depend on anyone else to make decisions on what action we're going to take, or what content we're going to use. If we keep the already excellent supply of ideas up, we'll have no shortage of raw material to work with.

We have clear goals in place
1. We will educate Liverpool supporters about the facts on the club's ownership and finances.

2. We will show fans the benefits of a unified voice, and how they can get involved to express their disapproval in a unified way.

The next sections describe these goals in more detail.

1. Educating Liverpool fans
The starting point for the campaign was "Getting angry at the right people". But to help people reach that realisation, we're not going to need to incite anger or do anything illegal, controversial, or unethical.

All we need to do is tell Liverpool fans the facts in ways that are simple enough for them to understand.

These are complicated subjects - corporate finance, balance sheet structure, stadium funding, and so forth - they all come into play.
We will make the complex information easy for people to understand. The anger will then take care of itself.

2. Showing fans ways to get involved and unify
There are two 'speeds' to this.

a. We'll provide measurable ways to unify under this campaign banner. We've already set up a Facebook group for the purpose, and Flake is working to try and set up a unified 'cross-forum' home for the campaign too. We'll keep working on this. The main thing will be for us to offer ways for people to unify under the one campaign banner.

b. We'll make it clear how to join SOS, we'll highlight the fact that many of us are members, and that for the purposes of this campaign, we'll be working closely with them. We don't mind if people get behind the campaign, or get behind the union. What's important in the end is that people come together to express their disapproval.

We are working with SOS
It's a fact that SOS have a high media profile and an extensive reach and audience. We have broadly the same goals as the union. So when our ideas have the potential to make a big impact (as has already been the case), we can help them make a bigger impact in their own campaigns and strategy, as long as they agree. For that reason, we'll be talking with SOS on a regular basis, not least to make sure we're working together rather than hindering each other.

Some ground rules on content.
- Don't use SOS logos and text
- For unchecked facts, don't associate them to SOS
- Get a sanity check for 'facts' used.

A quick browse through the old thread will show you that this has worked well so far.

We do not endorse anything illegal, or excessively controversial, or potentially counter-productive to our own goals and those of SOS
While we're all learning as we go, and it's inevitable we'll make mistakes and need to encourage each other, we need to make sure we don't go off on our own and do anything daft.

To that end, if you feel like taking action, pm people, or post on the thread, and ask for comments and feedback on your ideas. That should keep us right.

If you go off and do something daft without checking, just remember it's your arse that might be in the bacon slicer.

Radio Silence
When it comes to more precise plans, let's try and keep it to pms and other private methods of communicating with each other. That way we'll be more sure that things won't be sidetracked or sabotaged (why that would happen I don't know, but you can never be sure).

VAMOS Y VIVA LA REVOLUCION!
Let's enjoy the process and (note to self) not get downhearted if things slow down a little. This is for the long-term, and we'll keep learning as we go.

We'll pause for reflection and review on a regular basis. The 4th of July is as good a date as any, so let's use that. Synchronise watches!

***Current action for you guys***

Email your mates with the text below and attach the following image.

*****
Title: Please help save Liverpool FC

*****

Dear fellow Red

I'm sending you this e-mail as part of a campaign. I'm sure you're already aware of the situation at the club, but not all Liverpool fans know the truth about what's happening at the club. We want to make people aware of the threat that Tom Hicks and George Gillett's ownership poses to Liverpool Football Club.

The idea? If all Liverpool fans know what's going on, we'll unite and draw on our combined strength. If we can do that, we can make a difference.

As a True Red, you can help by doing two simple things - it'll only take you a few seconds.

1. Spread the word! To do that, just forward this e-mail on to as many other Reds as you can.

2. Show your support! To do that, if you're on Facebook, join the Campaign site, click "SHARE", and set the image on this email as your profile picture: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/helpsaveliverpoolfc

Join that site and you'll be able to see what's happening on the campaign. Many 1,000s of your fellow Reds are already involved - they're spreading the word, they're making plans, and they're doing whatever they can to help get Liverpool Football Club back.

Forward this e-mail to as many Reds as you can. Even if you just send it to 1 other Red, you've already made a difference.

Liverpool FC Is Being Bled Dry - You Can Do Something About It.

John Steinbeck quotes from The Grapes of Wrath (from the last 'Great American Depression'):

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage."

"...when property accumulates in too few hands it is taken away. And that companion fact: when a majority of the people are hungry and cold they will take by force what they need. And the little screaming fact that sounds through all history: repression works only to strengthen and knit the repressed."

"The bank is something more than men, I tell you. It's the monster. Men made it, but they can't control it."

"Fear the time when the strikes stop while the great owners live - for every little beaten strike is proof that the step is being taken … fear the time when Manself will not suffer and die for a concept, for this one quality is the foundation of Manself, and this one quality is man, distinctive in the universe."

"Whenever they's a fight so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Whenever they's a cop beatin' up a guy, I'll be there... I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad an'-I'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry an' they know supper's ready. An' when our folks eat the stuff they raise an' live in the houses they build-why, I'll be there."

Following Liverpool since the mid 80s.

A practical question. I've had a good lad who sometimes posts on YNWA.tv but can't post on here say he's going to send in images. As a background task, it's a great idea to plan some kind of 'common' site that includes people across forums. I'll try and spread the word just now - might as well.

Some good stuff in this and the previous thread (which I've just read through half of, having ignored this site other than election threads for a few weeks).

Is this thread still for ideas? Something for a short video or maybe an animated gif; each slide for 3 seconds or so.

- Buying Liverpool FC - £ 218m (standard Liverbird image)
- Debt on Liverpool FC - £*whatever figure it is now* (walshy's mullet bleeding Liverbird image)
- Selling Liverpool FC - £ 800m (Liverbird with Stars & Stripes fill)
- Bleeding our club dry - Priceless (Hicks & Gillett's faces in the red/orange Mastercard symbol)

Stop whining : https://spiritofshankly.com/ : https://thefsa.org.uk/join/ : https://reclaimourgame.com/
The focus now should not be on who the owners are, but limits on what owners can do without formal supporter agreement. At all clubs.

Welcome aboard Redmark - yes, ideas please - people just felt that with things more firmly established, we should draw a line under what had happened so far and start afresh.

Your thinking ties in with mine just now - I've just downloaded a Photoshop trial and am gonna try and do a few gifs to get things moving (more as 'end credits' for virals really).

One thing - Stars and Stripes is maybe one to steer clear of. We're gonna enlist the help of US fans groups, and we don't want to alienate anyone who might help.

I had a few more ideas tonight:
- Gif of a money printing machine (coming)
- Gif of a pile of money burning
- Tag line "Here we go paying off debts in May"
- Gif of a game of Space Invaders, with Hicks and Gillett shown as the player, with "The Liverpool Way" making its way down the screen (or "Liverpool Football Club") and them shooting it to oblivion.

Rossi/PaulJH's image of G&H standing over the bleeding Liverbird brought another to mind, but I don't have the skills to do it.

G&H standing a little way apart (possibly 'spliting' the two from the image of them with the scarf, but with the scarf removed), each holding one wing of the Liverbird, with the bird's head drooped forward (yes, a sort of crucifiction pose, with a little dripping blood), with "They're tearing our club apart" and the SOS footer, Not Welcome Here.

I've been looking back at old Hicks and Gillett statements - because they offer plenty of opprtunity to hoist them by their own petard.

Looking to tie those into some sort of snappy, viral campaign with a recognisable and familiar theme, what about something like the "I'm a PC" 'Windows 7 Second Demo' ads (maybe the 'Not Welcome Here' 7 Second Demos)?

"Hicks and Gillett said there would be 'spades in the ground' within 60 days of their takeover. They've spent £ X million on 'architects fees' and pretty pictures, but haven't built a thing. I'm a Red and they're Not Welcome Here."

"Hicks and Gillett said they bought the club without placing any debt onto it. Three years later, the debt on the club is £ X million and interest payments are £100k per day. I'm a Red and they're Not Welcome Here."

Etc. They've given enough ammunition for quite a few of these...

Hendo, I haven't been ignoring this, just not commenting while I've nothing worthwhile adding. And there's some really good stuff going on here, but I think some tying up needs to be done. Can't type it all out again. I'm home on me todd with the grandkids. So, I'll do it again later, or you can look at what I've just commented in the Echo thread... as it should be you that gets on to them anyway.

Meanwhile, the guys here have highlighted the Echo front page and have said we should follow it up with stuff from the thread. It's another example of how we can dovetail in with you - we'll highlight the non-SOS stuff.

Cheers to the lads on the Photoshop thread. Get enough of them and we get a nice background bed for a nice Gilliam/Fonejacker-style viral going.

"Here we go paying off debts in May".

Plus we could easily nab the money burning snaps from this...

Plus plus - the shittier it looks, the better - in my view anyway. We want it to look rough.

I'll probably do a bit more to this now that I've seen it again but you get the idea.

The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie — deliberate, contrived and dishonest — but the myth — persistent, persuasive and unrealistic.

Right - I'm going to get some copies done of Kit's poster and take it to pubs in Newcastle that show the LFC games.

We need to compile a list of LFC-friendly boozers and get in amongst them guys.

The World Cup starts on 11th June. Pubs full of people.

One of the next aims will be to get these items ready and get them up on pub walls, in as flyers or leaflets, and whatever we can manage in the 3 weeks we have left til that date (and obviously building on that in the weeks that follow).

I could knock out a few colour ones on the works A3 printer on the sly.

Wouldnt be glossy paper stuff like, but could send them onto guys if they wanted to distribute them.

Someone approach the Echo. They've thrown their hand in now, so let's force them to keep it going.
"A peasant you are. A peasant you will remain. And we shall use all our wealth and power, to make your lot even worse and keep you exactly where you are, Bondage!"    The Boy King, Richard II, after  putting down the The Peasants Revolt in 1381.

Just pm'd you Fats. It's something we can 'carpet bomb', but ideally we can just get straight into the Sports Desk and the editorial/management team. Then we don't have to piss about. The campaign group alone is currently growing by about 100 people a day on Facebook and we need to keep the momentum going. I'd imagine SOS's membership is growing steadily too.

If we can make the media aware of that 'movement', and if we can build momentum during the world cup, it'll have been a great start over the summer.
