Anyone going to the British Pink Floyd Show on Saturday at the Echo? I wasn't going to bother, but tickets are only a tenner, or 4 for £30, so I picked some up yesterday. It's some of the same people who do the Aussie Pink Floyd show.

I am seriously tempted by that - and the Undertones at the Academy.  And I usually avoid reunion gigs like the plague

I think I'll be at both, first time i saw the Undertones was a matinee at Erics, probably early '79.

Know what you mean at about re-unions but (at my age) its nice to sometimes re-visit your youth, yiou never know, think Kenny was manager with BAD 1st time round, so there might be something in it. In any case, the Christmas nights were a re-union every year even back then, they never played anywhere else inbetween from one year to the next!

Meant to pop in here a while ago and give thanks for the club recommendations, fellas - made it to Zanzibar while I was over and enjoyed it a lot.   Caught (The?) Merger's set - an odd juxtaposition (and somewhat ironic) what with them looking like punks but playing with obvious 70s prog-rock influences!!  That said, thought it was great.

Yes, last time I went there was to see John Squire.  It's part of the same building as the Mountford Hall, but nearer the Brownlow Hill end.

Edit: too slow.

Funny you should ask . It's meant to be an indie music club night.

After the Deaf School gig at the weekend , on the exit staircase going out there was a door which was closed that led to a seperate bar / dance floor .

We asked the doorman if it was open and went inside . It was quiet when we went inside with a DJ playing various music . Only problem is , it was like a youth club ( average age about 18 ) . We had a swift drink and went elsewhere.

Excellent gig last night from British Sea Power at The Stanley Theatre . First time I've been to this venue and top marks ( apart from the cost of the beverages ).

BSP were supported by Bo Ningen , a Japanese rock band - fuckin mental - I liked 'em !

Yeah, the problem is that the O2 Academy were the promoters and so they do the bar.  And they are c*nts to a man. £3.85 for a can of warm red stripe.  Nice.

Absolutely - got 2 rounds in and cost me about £35 - pure rip off . Next time I go to an O2 gig I'll give the ale a miss .

Did you catch Bo Ningen ?

When I first heard them singing I thought the lead singer was a woman , but they're actually all men . They were stood next to us watching BSP for a while .

There's a wacky youtube clip of them at the offset festival .

I'm looking forward to seeing Amsterdam for the umpteenth time again the night before th Manc game.

I might be tempted by The Phantom Band at the Bluecoat on the 11th - anyone been to a gig there, or seen them before? I like their "Checkmate Savage" album, but haven't heard the second one...

Amsterdam were boss ever last weekend - though they did the whole of Pele's first album to kick off the gig, and I didn't know much of that, so it wasn't as ecstatic as previous 'dam gigs

Saw Blancmange last night.

Sadly Stephen Luscombe wasn't there as he has been diagnosed with an abdominal aortic aneurism, with complications.

So it was Neil Arthur (Singing - with no Guitar), Pandit Dinesh on Drums and Graham Henderson on Syth/Keyboards/Technical gizmos.

Was quite a good gig - not too sure about their new stuff (They did about four songs from their new album). They obviously have spent a while remastering and 'improving' the songs, but I'm not sure it totally game off - I used to like the simplicity and the guitar work they had. But it was still good. They did quite a few classics; Living on the Ceiling, Don't tell me, Game above my Head, Blind Vision, Waves etc. and Neil Arthur was in fine voice.

They had some technical problems too - the gig was being run by an Apple Mac which crashed three times. Forcing Arthur to do three solo accapella numbers including 'See the Train' that he forgot the words to (As he said - he listens to other people's stuff - not his own and it's been 25 years since he sang that last)

Missus enjoyed the gig although she admitted it wasn't really her cup of tea.

Phantom Band were excellent last night.  The Bluecoat less so.  Closing the bar without warning at the end of the support band's set.  Leaving 300 a sold out gig high and dry.  I can only assume, Bluecoat management, that there is plenty of fat that can be trimmed from your grant as you clearly do not need the money.  The bar was probably the busiest it has ever been and I guess we are looking at takings of over £1000 turned down for one hour's work.

Times are obviously not as hard as we have been lead to believe.
