The crystal maze
« on: August 24, 2005, 04:10:22 pm »
Being a sponging student I'm currently at home bumming around watching TV until september comes so i can move into my student house.

I've been watching the repeats of the crstal maze on Challenge TV and it got me thinking why doesnt someone bring it back properly. It was so popular in the 90's. I think at one point it was the most watched show on TV.

Some of the dopey fuckers on that show used to wind me up. Used to love the "help" people used to get, taem mates sticking their head through the window shouting "Go on Jeremy".

Good show. Seriously doubt it was ever most watched show on TV unless all the other stations had stopped transmitting.

But that was the whole fun in it. Knowing you could do it well better than anyone else. Screaming at the TV at the stupid people. Sort of like Big brother but without all the sex but with comedy 90's glasses

It was proper shite is what it was, full of 'surveyors' and 'consultants,' watching jeremy from IT guide the crystal through a wooden maze using nothing but a hollow bamboo stick and his lungs in the aztec zone whilst fat liz from accounts randomly screamed utterly useless bollcoks at him, far and away the dullest television to have ever polluted the airwaves.

And it was always fat ones who got themselves locked in.
When your Mum used to pick you up from school and you'd run out and be like 'Mummy I got 9/10 in the spelling test today', would she go 'phenomenal, son'.

Cos if she did she's a stupid fuck.

The thing that amazed me, even at a young age, was:

How come even in the 8th series, with a game that had been featured since series 1, a contestant didn't have a fuckin' clue what to do? Didn't they WATCH the show previously?!?

Agreed.

Also keep watching them at 4pm on Challenge. Classic show. Brilliant presenter. :D

I used to love that programme. Thursday night was always Crystal Maze night in our gaff. The Aztec Zone was always my favourite, and although a ledge in his own right it just wasn't the same when Ed Tudor Pole took over.

I can't remember much about him. Richard O'Brien's episodes are on Challenge though, thankfully. Only recently noticed that they changed Industrial to Oceania (although I was young when I used to watch it) or vice versa. Regardless, Futuristic is the best zone.

O'Brien: Mental or Physical?

Captain: Err.... Physical.

O'Brien: Who's going to take part?

Captain: Err.. How about Jane the 3ft poison dwarf from Admin who so desperately wants to show she's a new woman and can compete with the men but ultimately will make a total fucking nob of herself trying to lift up heavy wooden blocks.

Some of them deserve to be locked in forever. If you're being counted down from 10, the door isn't far away, and you try and get out when they shout "One", well... like I say, you deserve to never be let out.

Just what I always though! Some really stupid people on there at times - well deserved to be locked in!

I used to love that programme. Thursday night was always Crystal Maze night in our gaff.

Mine too!

Anyone ever go to the Crystal Maze in Blackpool that was there for a while (about '90-93?) Think it became the sandcastle afterwards? (Just on the front, beach side, by the fair) I always wanted to - if only to see if it was like the one on the TV.

I was in a holiday job and they always had an annual staff day out - the boss wanted some team-building thing so I suggested there. "Oh, that's a good idea!" Bastard then told me it was his policy never to let temporary staff come on the day out!!   >:(

Anyway...

I seem to remember the Crystal Maze replaced The Interceptor which was a very short lived replacement of Treasure Hunt. The Crystal Maze replaced The Interceptor.

Got 8 crystals,  dome is a tricky though,  twist on show is there are only gold tokens.  So you get a bottle of champagne if you beat the weeks top token score .

The aztec zone is as good as the TV show  for likeness.
