That was fantastic, he might as well have just pierced the cover of a pasta ready meal and microwaved it with a couple of bits of garlic bread and called that his creation

Not going to lie. I thought Alison was going to win through most of this series but I think they got it right this year

Thought Paul Ainsworth was really nice to have on. Not shouty or demanding.

Now onto the Great British menu

I thought she should have been in the final. Giovanna was there because she did a pudding in the semi-final and Greg Wallace loves his puddings.

Right winner in the end. I hope she carries on.

preposterous to send Alison home in the semi-final....she was easily the most talented chef out of the four who remained....barely put a foot wrong in the entire series and had shown her class consistently across a range of styles and cuisines...some really odd judging this series?... John and Greg didn't seem to be on the same page....didn't bother with the final as that dopey decision devalued it for me....

Some of the judging was beyond odd, Alison for one, but some of the decisions to keep people clearly out of their depth were mystifying ::)

They spend far too long on the beginning skills test. Considering it's just chance if you have done it before or not, they make you sit through about 6 people doing it. Gets boring after the first 3.

Think it's a good part of the show - the intense pressure of it makes for great, if sometimes cringeworthy, viewing.

Do agree it's getting a bit repetitive though. In the last series, didn't they split it in 2 with 3 doing a test set by Monica and 3 by Marcus?

I think cutting 3 per show right from the off is a little off putting. They have cut the number of episodes over usual so they have to get to the semi finals and finals quicker.

The show has started to favour the more classically/European trained chefs. Makes the foreign chefs coming in look stupid and easy to get rid of early. Can be a bit sad especially if these guys have given up/taken a break from their current job to take part.

The big change from this stage over previous series (the ones with Michel Roux) is that the challenge round was given by Monica with Gregg watching/eating before the signature round all done in one go. It can be daunting.

Nice to see the guy from the London Carriage Works doing well last night.

Cod tortillas are fairly common here in Spain (and delicious) but the judges reacted like he had shat on the plate!

Can't believe they got rid of Matt - seemed to be the most innovative chef there, even if he wasn't at his best yesterday.

Not sure the semi-finals were as balanced as they could have been, tonight's 3 seem weaker, but we'll see.

They seem to do that a lot for the Professionals version. I don't know if names are drawn from a hat or if they have some form of seeding or if they are picked by producers for drama

Ye, Matt was bringing something new to the table everytime. They seemed to get rid of him because they didn't know what texture part of his dish was meant to be.

If I had to pick any of those chefs to cook for me, he'd be my choice easily.
