Topic: Which is the more prestigious honour, the Ballon dor or the World Cup?

Just to settle a debate in my household, me and my housemate believe the world cup another says Ballon.

I'll post my reasoning a little later, just wanted to get the poll up sooner rather than later to gauge some opinion.

Obviously its a team honour vs personal so it's not so black and white.

Well I'm not sure I'd class the World Cup as an honour, it's a team award. Where as the Ballon d'Or is an individual honour.

So the latter for me.

However if you took them as both being honours, I'd imagine most players would rather win the WC.

I'd rather win a world cup than a Ballon d'or, as football is a team game.  After retirement i'd rather say i was a World Cup winner than a Ballon d'or winner (even if i hadn't even played in the final and just sat on the bench for the whole duration of the tournament!  )

Nothing can really settle a debate such as that, as they are completely different. You could easily say winning the World Cup is more prestigious than winning the European Championship, or the FA Cup is more prestigious than the League Cup. You could argue about winning the European Championships or the European Cup. But not an individual honour versus a team one.

If I had the choice, I'd win the World Cup. Ballon dOr tends to be forgotten about once you're past your prime or retired but a World Cup medal is something you savour for life and show people.

Depends if the CLs were won with the team you grew up supporting I suppose. I'd choose 4 CLs anyway personally, I think it's harder to win as you need to play well over a longer period of time.

As a non international football fan, I'd say the European Cup 4 times. But that isn't the question. You'd need to put that to actual footballers who give a fuck about international football. Joel Matip would probably go for 4 European Cups. Someone like Michael Owen put country before club so would go for 1 World Cup.

That's not how I remember it. Since the 80s up until Messi & CRonaldo came along it's always been Pele v Maradona, with the odd oldie piping up with Di Stefano or a John Bull Brexit type saying Best.

There were a couple of years in the mid-late 90s when people were saying Original Ronaldo would eclipse them all but that never came to fruition due to injuries.
