And that shunter engine is still on the Dock Road somewhere....... it's now a static display and museum piece... :-)
You mean the one on the corner of Bankhall street and Derby Road by Norton's thats  much smaller, Gulley will probably know what it is https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.4361369,-2.9951284,3a,61.4y,252.38h,92.6t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s5P7sIvFjgTw-fz0gtVC4nw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1

...Calling all anoraks...

Yes, it's a Ruston 48DS 0-4-0 Diesel Shunter.

http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2860386

(I knew it was a Ruston but had to google for the precise type.)

I'm really not sure any of these were ever on the MD&HB loco list, I can't find any evidence anywhere, and it looks like it's been cosmetically tarted up as those side panels should be louvered, see ones here ... https://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/48ds/page2.

It's possibly been cannibalised for the engine or something like that in the past and left to rot and the original panels then lost, until someone decided to put it on display and quickly put some plain sheet metal over the gaping engine compartment and gave it all a lick of paint.

Unless someone knows different, I just have a sneaky suspicion it might actually have been this one here...
http://mickpope.zenfolio.com/p506284746/h5B23E24A#h5b23e24a , a private contractors engine that perhaps got left there after they finished their job on the North Docks railway works back in the 70's and at a guess, judging by the loaded Walrus waggons it's pictured tugging along in some of those photographs, it likely got well and truly shagged out and was simply left as scrap.

They have life in them, they have humour, they're arrogant, they're cocky and they're proud. And that's what I want my team to be.

One thing looking at old pics shows is how small the cars were, a modern Focus or Astra would be as big as that Commer van

Not Liverpool as such but my side of the water.  Back when we had our own league team!

I'd forgotten all about that service.  They used to run that in the part of mid-Wales where I was brought up.

I remember most of Bootle looking like that when I was little, 3 or 4 story houses, in fact large tracts of town too, but all largely gone now.

I think that photo must have been taken somewhere about here....

The car next to the Commer van looks just like my dad's first car, a Hillman Minx circa 1967.

Yep there was a row on Westminster road next to where my arl primary school was, thats some sort of film academy now.
That row was bulldozed & replaced with some shite wimpey/barratt style house..such a shame.

Wezzy road school..when i was there it was like some sort of apartheid, Protestants in their green uniforms on the1st floor & Catholics on the ground floor in grey uniform.

Tee Hee .

Its in a few weeks . I have a lost at the UK Bhakti fest just north of Bourenmouth then its ferry to France. Hopefully hope to get to see him. I have his number written down in an old travel journel from 2010 but the chances of him having the same mobile seven years on are pretty slim I'd say.

Whilst we are donning our railway anoraks i'll throw out something i was told (and dismissed) probably abut 25 years ago when i was doing some work on a property in Crown st,Edge Hill.

https://www.google.com/maps/@53.4009784,-2.9581316,0a,75y,337.17h,89.91t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sEx7Rg4Keg9iM6465fO_DSA!2e0 Check out Crown St Shared via the #StreetView app

Hope that link works for reference..

There was a clerk of works who stated that this property was built on the first railway turntable & if it was ever demolished it would still be there..fuck knows how true it is but i saw this whilst browsing which jigged the memory on it..it does seem to be close to the location.

There is a branch off Edge Hill to a Crown st location..

Over to you!  :D
