I think I may be able to shed some light on our friends from Hull...
Few years back I was listening to Radio 5 in the afternoon, Nicky Campbell Show as it was then I think, he was interviewing a women who was researching for a book and various acts by the war time government which where not widely known , such as the relocation of 'undesirables' , those person or families who by their actions where not welcomed in their communities or undermining the war effort....violent families, thieves , scumbags and ne're do wells etc ....these families where often whisked away from all over the country and relocated in...........Hull.....thousands apparently , I think she said as many as 30,000 people..... they where re housed and generally grouped together, with the aim of putting all the 'rotten apples' in one basket...that basket being Hull....I suppose so they would leave the decent communities alone to fight the good fight, could be monitored, fuck each other up, or provide cannon fodder for the Luftwaffe......60 years on those families who settled, had children and then grandchildren, who are now commenting on the Spying Kop.
I never did locate that book, or find any record of the governments actions.........but it sure does answer a lot of questions!
