Apparently Agger has some stomach injury, some journo in Denmark said. Can anyone confirm?

As for Coutinho, Henry Winter said he feels slight pain in shoulder and will have a scan.

I`m more worried about Coutinho than Henry Winter

Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho says his shoulder surgery was a 'success' and he hopes to be back playing soon.

Coutinho was injured earlier this month against Swansea and needed an operation to stabilise the injury.

The Brazilian has started the season in superb form and Liverpool looked in need of his creativity at the weekend - after they lost 1-0 at home to Southampton.

But Countinho has stated he is doing everything he can to be back playing as soon as possible - the initial assessment was that he would be back by the end of October.

"It's annoying to get injured, especially when you are playing well, but that happens," Coutinho told Globo Esporte.

"I now want to focus on my recovery and do everything right to be back as soon as possible to help Liverpool in the league.

"The surgery was a success and this is what matters the most. I'll be back soon."

Coutinho is being strongly tipped to be part of Brazil's World Cup squad next year and he is hopeful of making the tournament in his homeland.

"I dream of getting called up again for the national team, but it's only up to me," he said.

"Of course it's bad when you get injured in a moment like this, but this is football.

"I have had a set-back and my concern is being fully ready as soon as possible. If I play well, things will happen naturally."

What's the deal with Allen? Is he fit? Just not being fancied by Rodgers?

The midfield definitely needs a shake up and some more energy in there. I don't know if Allen's the answer, but I'd like to see him in there instead of Gerrard or Lucas until those 2 get back into form.

Seriously, where the fudging fudge is he? Re-appeared in the training photos after his injury and then just seems to have disappeared off the face of the Earth since then.

I find it really odd that we've had updates on just about every other player's fitness (in some cases we get practically a running commentary) but not a single peep about Joe Allen. It seems... suspect.

We haven't won a game since Johnson hasn't played. Kolo gives his all but people don't realise how much Johnson gives the team.  I also cannot believe how dependent we  have come on Courtino, this young lad gives us so much creativity up front I cannot understand that we go so defensive because Courtino isn't playing.

Good news all round. The sooner we get Philippe back the better. Johnson and Allen in light training too. If we can get all this lot properly fit and going again it will be a massive boost for a very difficult winter period.

"There is also positive news on Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian is making good progress after undergoing surgery on the shoulder injury he suffered at Swansea City last month.

Coutinho, who will start running again at Melwood next week, won't be back for the Newcastle game but the home clash with West Brom on October 26 has been pencilled in as a possible return date."

Brendan Rodgers looking forward to having a number of players back from injury after the international break

Aly Cissokho and Joe Allen should be back while Glen Johnson and Philippe Coutinho will not be long after

CARL MARKHAM
FRIDAY 04 OCTOBER 2013

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers hopes to come out the other side of the international break with his team's injury problems almost cleared up.

England right-back Glen Johnson will miss the World Cup qualifying double-header against Montenegro and Poland as he has been sidelined by an ankle injury sustained a month ago against Manchester United.

However, when the squad reassembles next Thursday Rodgers hopes to have him and others available for selection.

Aly Cissokho has been out with an ankle knock since the end of August, while Joe Allen has a hamstring problem, Philippe Coutinho a shoulder blow that has required surgery and Sebastian Coates a knee injury.

"Glen's out on the field and hopefully after the international break he'll be ready to come back into the squad," said the Reds boss.

"Aly Cissokho trained over the course of the last week or so, so I think after the international break he'll be fine and fit. Joe Allen likewise - he should be ready for the Newcastle game. Glen Johnson and Coutinho will not be long after.

"Obviously Sebastian Coates will be that bit longer and has a bit more to do yet but apart from that we're getting back to our numbers now."

Rodgers' immediate concern is not injury but suspension with Lucas Leiva suspended having already accumulated five bookings, which means he sits out Saturday's visit of Crystal Palace.

With the Brazil international Rodgers' only genuine defensive midfielder, he will have to do some tinkering with Jordan Henderson the most likely option to fill the position.

The Reds boss admits someone will have to adapt their game to fill the role occupied by Lucas, who is almost back to his best after a surgery on a cruciate knee ligament problem in 2011.

"There's no doubt Lucas has started the season well. He's a very honest, committed player who understands what it is we're trying to do," Rodgers said.

"It will give an opportunity for someone else to come in. Hopefully that will prove seamless and they can come in and continue with a good performance.

"Whoever plays in there has to understand the dynamic of what is required and they may have to curtail their game a little bit.

"If you move freely and empty that space it leaves it too open.

"Our movement and fluidity in the other half of the field is getting better but you have to make sure you have that tactical discipline and whoever plays in there will have to have a similar function."

Good news. If we could have them all ready from the West Brom game (which I think will be a tough one) then that helps us alot as after that our next 2 away games are Arsenal and Everton.

I can't see them all being ready, the main one for me is Johnson as we've missed him hugely. It'd be nice if we could get Coutinho, Allen and Cissokho an appearance or two before December so we can rotate a little during the busy period.
