Not the first and won't be the last time that disciplined bowling is the difference between winning and losing for England.

Great effort from the batsmen but lines and length was shocking at the death from our bowlers, indias have been brilliant.

What you talking about man. We'll win with 3 balls to spare, Plunkett with the winning runs.

You let me down Liam.

Harsh on Morgan, unfortunate way to go and with that our last hope went.

Good effort.

You win most games batting that well.

Good effort.

You win most games batting that well.

On the flipside, you don't win many games bowling that poorly.

And playing on an U11 pitch!

You have a decent bowling attack, technically this is even more embarrassing for you. Maybe.

We seriously need to improve our bowling. It's fine getting close to a run chase but we should be stopping teams scoring that many in the first place.

Who and how though? Nasser was banging Mark Wood's drum.  Would be good to see him back but can't count on him with his injury record. Finn has been tried a lot and flatters to deceive. Bring back Broad?

Bring back Broad?

Certainly should be considered given he's not really being rested at the moment as he's playing Big Bash.  Think he said he wanted to keep playing ODI cricket didn't he?

Woakes has bowled quite well so far in this series. He's bowled 18 overs and has figures of 4-104 across the 2 games. An economy of under 6 is decent when you consider how many runs India have scored.

There was an argument to have bowled him through today. Three wickets in his first five overs and I think he'd bowled a couple of maidens in a row. Another early wick...Probably would have made fuck all difference on reflection!

Being 25-3 or whatever India were is pretty much like being 25-1 five or ten years ago, such is the depth of batting in many ODI teams now. India won with 4 wickets in hand but still had Ashwin to come, a guy with 4 Test centuries to his name. OK, he's not as good with the bat in white ball cricket but it's still shows you that losing early wickets isn't disastrous when you bat so deep.

The same goes for England. Willey was in right down the order, this is a guy who clubbed 100 last summer in the T20 blast (postage stamp ground or not). Teams have one or two specialist quicks and the rest are batsmen and all-rounders. England's total was good but obviously 50 odd short. When 400 is needed to win a game you see how much it's a batsman's game in this format. It's exciting to watch, don't get me wrong, but the numbers are a little crazy to me.

The holy grail in ODI cricket would be to score 500 and if a team is going to do it it will be India on a pitch like today. Someone will need to get 200 and be helped significantly by the rest of the team but I think it will happen one day and I think this Indian team just might do it in the next year or two.

Thing is we don't have these pitches regularly in Odis even in India .

Last series against Newzealand couple of months back, we had matches were teams were struggling to chase 250+ and 300 was a winning total .

Apart from the odd occasions  , in India , still 300-320 is a pretty good score to defend.Think this series is an anomaly just like the 2013 series we had against Australia .At least I hope that is the case.

What I would say is ,the 2 new ball rule ,more than batting depth or ground dimensions, has made matches farcical in these flat wickets .Because 2 new balls make spinners very in effective as well as completely rule out reverse swing which was a major factor in flat wickets .

In that case England has managed to achieve something nearly improbable in two different games!

Final ODI today. England have won the toss amd chosen to bat first and lose.

Billings is in for the injured Hales. Bairstow in at three for Root (presume he must be injured).

Bowling line up is unchanged,  and why wouldn't it be?

Good start but just lost two quick wickets. 110/2, Roy once again out for a nice 50 but needed him to go on for something bigger you'd think.

Bairstow and Morgan in.

This run rate is piss poor considering the amount of wickets they had left at one point.

Or getting caught off deliveries that would be called wide if left alone...

Just got the feeling India are due a collapse, where England for once get their field placements right, hang on to their catches, and get some luck.

That had to be caught. Kohli very lucky so far, playing and missing plus edging past the wickets.
