Ever get the silver one?

Used to love the silver ones. Think there were two or three in service. They were plush inside as another poster said. As a kid I would be absolutely made up if a silver 92 or 93 came trundling down to the Black Bull bound for the Pier Head.

You lot on here are likely to have seen the Council's plan to sell off the 'bombed out church'. So maybe you would be interested enough to sign this petition.

Just this minute watched a video on that, about leasing it and stuff.  Shouldn't happen, though there is a part of me that would like to see weddings held there or the clock tower and bells restored but it would ruin the tranquil settings somewhat.  I've signed though, it's a special place.

Last time I went there I saw masturbating chimpanzees. Whether you think that's worthy of £22 is up to you. All I'll say is I now have an annual pass.

Not sure if this link has been posted before... http://www.merseyside.police.uk/about-us/our-history/photo-archive-the-ww2-blitz.aspx

Some good ones.

The negatives, found in a dusty envelope at Merseyside Police Headquarters, were taken as a record of bomb damage by the then Liverpool City Police.

Taken between 29th August 1940 and the 5th May 1941, they show how air raids destroyed sections of the city centre, the docklands and the south of the city.

There are over 100 images, which have now been digitised and were originally release on Twitter in December 2013. You can follow the discussion around them by using the hashtag #merseyblitz. If you can help to identify any of the locations, respond to our tweets @merseypolice

There's a church on that 1st video at 2.10 that rang a bell and I've got a photo of my own of it somewhere, but I couldn't find is so this one will have to do.

It's almost hidden by trees nowadays

British Pathé have uploaded thousands of short films from their archives onto YouTube five days ago.

There's lots of it on Liverpool here, both the City and also LFC, much of it never seen before. Here's an example...

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/1lN7iGxA6_w&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/1lN7iGxA6_w&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1</a>

Well worth a browse.

I found an old book of photos of my own stomping ground, Prenton in Birkenhead. Have spent the weekend out and about trying to find similar angles to document the changes.

Here's an example of what I've managed:

If anyone would like to see the rest, here's an album of them all:

Despite apocryphal tales of machine guns mowing them down en masse, the Cavalry Regiments got off quite lightly as they were hardly used on the Western Front, seemingly always being held in reserve to exploit the 'Breakthrough', which never quite seemed to happen.

Unlike the huge losses in the infantry regiments, only ten cavalry regiments suffered over 200 dead. wiki

Having said that, in those photographs, I don't think those troops are actually Cavalry. While the officers at the front are on horse, normal back then, the rest of the Battalion(?) are on foot marching behind.

But it's highly probable that many of the poor civilian sods standing around in those photo's ended up getting killed.

If you zoom in on the photo, you will see that the Cap badge on the mounted soldiers is the Scots Greys, and they are on Grey mounts.  So they where Cavalry with possible a Infantry unit behind them

My mate was there with me on a skills training course without a job, I had a job as did many others from big companies such as MPTE, Mersey Docks & Harbour etc.

I was serving my time as a mechanic so the intense engineering didn't help me learn much mechanical engineering but my overall knowledge of basic engineering is excellent.
Not many people can gas & arc weld, mill, turn, solder, shape metal with a file and make tools, etc.

Is right, good times indeed. I will always remember the sheet metalwork instructor mr Millington (Mary when he wasn't listening) "fuckin ell lad, look at the fuckin teds on that" as he grabbed you hand and ran your finger down the burr. The hippy fitting instructor, cant remember his name, that used to go out every lunch time and have a spliff.

Yeah Millington was there when I was - old guy. (he actually claimed he knew my deceased dad but my mum said dad had never worked in engineering at all - weird). I'll try to find out what his name was with the long hair - he was friendly with a black haired bloke that was a twat - was one of them Mr Roberts?

Don't recall a Mr Roberts, but it was 35 yrs ago (fuck I feel old).
