Bars/Clubs in town
« on: November 15, 2010, 09:27:30 pm »
Right i'm 24 and been hitting town atleast once a week for the past 7 odd years, completely bored of it these days though as i usually tend to go places like Baa Bar, Modo, Mood, Cava, Popworld, Jacaranda, Slaters, Bar Red etc, or if i'm at the other end Remenisce, Quarry quarter, Grapes etc

Anyone got any suggestions of different or better places i should try these days ?

Anyone know a sport pub / bar in Liverpool that has good atmosphere during our games? Would like to see the Braga away game in a pub, preferably with a lot of other fellow reds!

Cheers in advance!

To be honest, nowhere will be absolutely booming for a game like that. It will be on all over town though.

Not really a sport pub/bar, but The First National's always good for a game.

I'd avoid Concert Square if I was you, just a boxing ring sometimes with groups of young lads. It's not notorious for it, but never suprised when it happens if you get me.

Heading to the city for Paddy's Day, any recommendations of where to go for an all dayer? Used to go the Union when I was studying in the city but all grown up now. There's a group of about 20 of us heading.

I've thought about O'Neills but if I remember rightly the queue is shocking all day.

I'd go in snide boozers for most of the day before heading into town later on to clean up with the Irish student birds who have been on the ale all day.

Makes me laugh when people say that, it's like you're trying to give town a bad name for the sake of it. I've been going out to town for about ten years now, and I know where to go to avoid trouble. If you're a local, so should you.

I've never even had a problem in concert Square either.

Aslong as you keep yourself to yourself, and employ some common sense (IE. Don't snarl the cokeheads) you'll have a great time anywhere.

To be perfectly honest mate, I’m 34 years of age, lived in Liverpool all my life and have been frequenting town since I was 16. I was also a student at Liverpool Uni for 4 years and have been to every bar, club and student knocking shop there is. Far from giving the "town a bad name for the sake of it", I feel I am more than competent to give an opinion on the nightlife in my city.

Fair enough, perhaps I was generalising a little too vaguely with my comment and I hold my hands up. I agree there are some decent gaffs in town - but those are usually places that are frequented by good natured students and decent people intent on having a genuine good time. However, there are large areas of town that are frequented by coke snorting, belligerent scallies who are just intent on causing grief and giving Liverpool a bad name – and that’s just a fact.

It's the same as anywhere though. Been to Brum, Manchester and London it's the same, easily avoided though.

Went in the Jac the other day and its been refurbished, repainted and padded seats instead of the wooden benches. They've taken down all the photos as well but I think it might just be because they were painting and haven't been able to put them back up yet, the place would deffo lose its charm if they didn't put them back up, there's a DJ in there now as well which annoyed us as I was one of a few places me and mates could sit down with a bevvie and talk with out having to shout over the music.

Still got the jukebox in the basement and top floor I think just on the ground floor they seem to have the DJ, despite doing the place up they've still managed to over look doing up the bogs which badly need sorting

The day they do anything to the bogs in the Jac is a sad one. I haven't actually been in since the refurb, I think I'm scared to.

As long as they haven't touched the basement, I could probably just about live with it. The open mic on a Thursday down there is one of the great nights in town, it's like a big family there. Haven't been in ages though as I rarely go out weeknights now. I trust it's still going strong?
