Bone Tomahawk....didn't see any love for this in the film thread when it came out-I liked it a lot. I know it was a slow burner but when it turned it up....it really turned it up.

Cinderella....yeah..the Disney film...I loved it. It was a beautiful traditional telling of the tale and all the better for being that....also it was a stunning looking stylish film.

01. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
02. Mad Max: Fury Road
03. The Martian
04. Sicario
05. Whiplash
06. A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night
07. Ex Machina
08. The Lobster
09. Beasts of No Nation
10. Birdman

Still not 100% on the order and I think It Follows could well get bumped as I feel I'm forgetting something...

EDIT: I bloody knew it! The Lobster gets thrown into the pot!

Some really good films this year. Films that stand out for me are:

Catch Me Daddy
It Follows
Whiplash
Duke of Burgundy
Mad Max
Foxcatcher
Wild
A Most Violent Year
Ex Machina
Amy
Force Majeure
Cartel Land
Tangerine
Beyond Clueless
Call Me Lucky
Still Alice
The Ecstasy of Wilko Johnson

All friends and family loved Inside Out and hated It Follows. I loved It Follows and thought Inside Out was merely okay. Nothing more. Seen far better animated films over the years with the kids. From last year, but only watched it a few months back, Cronenberg's Maps to the Stars was ace too.

Amen to that IT follows was fantastic. It seems to be very much a Love/Hate film though nobody I know thinks it was alright. It's either brilliant or shite

Ex Machina

Still trying to decide how much I like this film. It's certainly a film that's stayed with me since I first saw it and it's themes certainly resonated with me but I don't know, there's just something about it that means I like a little less than I want to. Maybe it's the denouement and the way things played out or maybe it's the fact that if it were me, I'd probably have fallen for Ava as well and was gutted when she locked Domnhall Glesson in that room in end :
We have to change from doubter to believer. Now.

Watched it last night, loved it. Really good from Garland and an excellent soundtrack from Geoff Barrow, all done on a low budget but without compromising the vision. Will be watching Garland's directing career closely now.

Would also add The Big Short & Cobain: Montage of Heck to that list. Think Catch Me Daddy is my film of the year, tho.

I'm going to be an outsider here but I'd pick mine based on how much I enjoyed them from a personal perspective:

1) The Force Awakens
2) Age of Ultron
3) Creed
4) Mad Max
5) Jupiter Ascending......just fucking with you. Legend is my 5th pick

Not seen hateful 8 or revenant yet. Missus has to be "in the mood" for a heavy film and even though I've had them both for 3 weeks she's not been up for watching them  :no

Just saw The Big Short and liked it, but it doesn't really rank as a top movie in any year.. except possible this one.

A lot of good moments, but I think it delivered on the comedy while failing to indict the big banks from a position of moral authority. Which is hardly surprising, I suppose. The whole Steve Carrell plot line, which was supposed to be the moral heart of the story, never quite pays off the way it's supposed to (hah!). Marissa Tomei is wasted in her small role as her wife, and the brother's suicide angle felt shoehorned - which is a terrible thing for the family of Mark Baum if it's something that actually happened.

it didnt happen....Steve Eisman - the person the Mark Baum character is based on - lost a baby in a tragic accident - but the family didn't want that included so the brother storyline was included to indicate the tragedy they / he had suffered....I think, all things considered it was handled very well
