This is a nice distraction from the transfer thread :)

If I was a local ten year-old kid with a bit of talent and given a choice between hanging out with a bunch of bitters and working towards to a life of being screamed at by frothing weirdos or working with Steven Gerrard every day, I know I'd be on the bus to Kirkby without having to think twice about it. Great decision by the club and reassuring to know that Stevie is playing a part in developing the future of the first team.

Like it!
I'm sure he has lots of things to pass on to players at every level. I also like that he gets into this kind of role first, rather than going straight to manager at elite level. Can only be a good thing this.

Says a lot that he wants to start at the beginning instead of jumping in at a full management roll at a club like MK Dons. Mad to think some on here believe he's got some mad ego. In his interview on the website he was saying how he needs help from every coach at the Academy and how he's so excited to learn from them.

He isn't doing this for the money,  hopefully he knuckles down and starts building a long term future that epitomises all that was great about the Boot Room and sees Stevie progressing through the ranks to who knows where.  Just hope he is really humble about this and genuinely sees this as a new challenge, an opportunity to learn, to inspire, to develop new skills in the shadow of Jurgen and to ultimately rise to........

The circle is complete.

There's nothing more Liverpool fans can really ask of Steven Gerrard. He's been everything to this club. The closest thing to a real life Roy of the Rovers you'll ever see. The local lad who captained the side and led us, in the most dramatic sense imaginable, to the greatest prize of all. Rightly regarded among the very best to ever pull on a red shirt. A true legend of the game.

And what better figure to inspire our next generation than a man who once stood in their shoes and now stands astride the stratosphere; a colossus of the modern game? Who knows better than Gerrard how hard you need to work to get from our youth team to making hundreds of appearances for Liverpool, scoring dozens of goals, winning almost every pot in the trophy room.

You can't teach a lot of what Gerrard did on the football pitch. He was as much about mentality as talent. But being there with him on a regular basis, maybe the kids can see what sort of men they'll have to become. And he does know a trick or two, too.

Well put!

It's a great to have him back. Good decision by the club, too. He can learn his trade as a coach and make a mark on the next generation without overshadowing the first team. Teaching Klopp's footy is prefect for Gerrard.

Terrific. While I have no doubt our coaches are excellent, not least in the tactical aspects of the game, having someone as experienced as Stevie to pass on his hands-on knowledge, not to mention the sense of what an honour it is to plays for us, will be invaluable. As someone said above, let's get Xabi in next.

It's obvious we're training him for the big job.. And I sincerely hope he wins us a league trophy as manager one day.. After Klopps won us like 5..

Imagine being a young Dele Alli and knowing that if you move to the Liverpool Academy, you will get coached by Stevie everyday..

This could give us pulling power in the short term and 10 or 15 years later when Jurgen retires, Stevie steps in..  :wave
F*CK 0FF Mourinho..
