Just don't see the need for the rubbish about his injury etc.  It's not relevant, as he's been fit for a fair while now and wasn't the reason why Klopp didn't start him.

Its not rubbish lad, he had a serious injury and has obviously struggled to get back to fitness. He wasn't back in full training until a month ago, since then he's had a few U23 games but thats hardly enough to fully build up sharpness to justify starting against physical lower league sides. Which is pretty much exactly what the manager said after the game.

I think its pretty obvious as well that the manager, whilst wanting to blood youngsters, wanted to include a number of senior players in the starting line-up last night as the main objective was to qualify for the next round (which is why both Origi and Studge started).
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

He's had three or four U23 games and one for the first team.

He could clearly play 60 mins at the very least.

Yes he wanted some first teamers in the team, Origi shouldn't have been one them IMO as he blocked Ojo's chance, when he's been getting plenty of action.

am I the only one not quite getting what the fuss is?

He's one of 6 teenagers who played yesterday, he's back to training at Melwood every day again I believe, after a spell training with the U23s.  He's getting into some match day squads now after a longish layoff.

That all seems really positive to me!

Not all of these boys can start this game. The manager had his reasons for not starting him last night, yet he got a hugely positive response when he came on. All good really.

There could be a multitude of reasons why Ojo wasn't picked. A multitude of reasons that most of us have no idea about. Jurgen Klopp probably has a better idea and decided to put him on the bench. Ojo came on and had an impact on the game. Maybe that's what Klopp wanted all along. Maybe he wanted a reaction from Ojo. If he did, that's what he got. Maybe he just wanted to give Origi and Sturridge game time. Who the fuck knows.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

Ojo will get another run out against Hull. Wouldn't be shocked to see him on the bench as well until Mane comes back (he and/or Woodburn and Ejaria).

There is no fuss.  Just a minor point, where I think he should have started.

But everything is all good.

He could have played for 60 minutes but then you have to change him and Coutinho which completely limits your options and in a game that could go into extra time? Not the wisest.

We made two attacking subs, last night anyway.  So don't agree with that either. Sorry.

Yes we did, already winning and having got through the majority of the game without injuries. Play Ojo and Coutinho from the start knowing they can only play around 60 minutes what happens if you have a player come off injured or keeper sent off. You need to manage the game before. There's always more games.

Well, one can only speculate, but I think one of core philosophies is to build sides around players' strengths. In the first game against Plymouth, I got the feeling Ojo played at too languid a pace, he didn't take men on as soon as he got the ball and generally played at an intensity that was manageable for the Plymouth players, while Jurgen wanted him to play quicker, faster and commit players into defending in 1v1s. That's my impression based on what Jurgen said and the difference in performance between the first game and the second game where Ojo beat that defender three or four times after coming on and generally committed him into a 1v1 soon as he got the ball.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

Was puzzled he never got any game time last season.

The season before he played in the team and got 5-6 assists and showed pace, something we were lacking in January and Febuary from the flanks.

Not sure a PL loan would be a good idea would find it hard to a regular. Had a tough time at Wolves.

A championship loan would be a good move.

Interesting that both his crosses that led to goals were off his weaker right foot. If he can develop that even more he'd be a huge asset. So hard for defenders to stop players with his pace and agility when they can go both ways.

The raw pace and power that he possesses is frightening.

If he can put all of the pieces together, he's really going to be some player.  We saw a glimpse of that when he got a little run in the first-team at the end of the 2014/15, last season was a bit of a write of because of injury but it's been great to see some glimpses of him at his best in the Under-20's tournament and hopefully that's a sign that he's ready to come back and impress in pre-season.

He's the type of player that I think could become something special under a manager like Klopp.  Hopefully we sign Salah but I'm also hoping we keep Ojo at the club next season rather than loan him out, if he can avoid any injuries then I really believe that he has something to contribute.

Yes, yes I am.

Our January was poor and he could have helped it IMO.  I said it at the time, I still think so.

I don't think he helped his development last season.

Hope he gets a loan and kicks on, but the same goes for many of our youngsters.  Won't progress in that U23 league.

That video going around where he skins the lad for pace in the Venezuela game brought to mind the thing Klopp said about him not using his speed well - he's slowed down and the guy has squared him up again rather than taking the ball across his defender's path and into the box.

Stupid to extrapolate too much from a tiny little clip but it came to mind. Delighted to see his career back on an upwards trajectory after a difficult season though!
