If one good thing will come out of this hellish omnishambles, I do hope that it encourages good people who never once thought they could become President to consider it. Obviously the vast majority will never reach high office, but hopefully it will be to the betterment of American politics in general. If that is a woman or a man or a kid, so be it, regardless of where they come from.

Sadly though that for every Dwayne Johnson, there is a Billionaire Republican with a dreadful moral compass, equally well equipped.

I remember seeing a poll whilst the election campaign was at full tilt, where over 65% of respondents said they would vote for Tom Hanks if he were to run.

American politics is already a circus so why not? That's no criticism of the Rock though - I'm a fan.

He probably would be considerably better than Trump!

Then what would The Rock say in response?

Would it make America more or less of a joke getting a wrestler to become President? They both would look pretty ridiculous on a debate stage.

I think the problem is, that it would become even more of a popularity contest than it already is. I mean, clearly politics is a lot about who the candidate is and if the people like him/her. However, it should also be about policy and I'm not sure it is a positive thing that in the latest election the "more popular" guy (I know he's not, but he managed to get people in the important states on his side by simply playing a character and getting people on his side) has won. Therefore, I'm not so sure about people like The Rock or other celebrities running for office just because they can and not because they actually want to achieve something and have a clear policy behind them...

The Rock actually comes across as "switched on" though... if that is him or his PR team and whatnot I do not know for sure but he does come across (again, via social media so everything seems better there) as someone aware of himself, what he can do and eager to do more and better.

He's very intelligent and always has been. A friend of mine in the media was at a promotional event for one of his movies and said the way he commanded a room was Presidential, this was probably four or five years ago now. Doesn't hurt to be 6'2, massive and beautiful.

But I'm quite happy to settle for a normal boring candidate after all this.

Worth pointing out that Arnie would probably have had a good chance of being US president if he had been born in the US...

Just no.

I mean, after Trump even Gary Busey would seem like a good choice but what's next, the Kardashians running? Trump's successor will have a massive job on his or her hands to clean up the mess that will be left, so hopefully someone with actual experience that actually knows what they're doing will be elected. Not someone who just gets up one day and decides "fuck it, I'll run for President." I actually think Congress should pass a law where if you don't have X amount of years of political experience, you can't run for President.

At least the DNC would never allow him to get anywhere near the nomination and thus preserve even a little sanity. He'd have to run as an independent and badly lose.
