That had Lindleof's grubby little prints all over it!

But I loved the Rick rolls and shit story.

that was one of the best episodes of anything i've seen in quite a while.  wow.  a truly amazing bit of TV, and massive credit to all involved.  bewildering, brutal, terrifying, sad, funny, surreal, surreally funny (brian?  wtf?  monty python fan?).  this series is improving constantly.

however...

I agree. Excellent episode. They seemed to have really embraced the whole aspect of adding in random stuff for the sake of it ("Hit him as hard as you can with this awe and shout Brian") and I love it.

Season 2 much better than the first now that The Guilty Remnant have been reduced to a smaller role. That whole plot was a bit tedious last time round.

Yeah this is great fucking television.  It makes me feel, even if I'm not sure why.

Lucky to have spent an hour listening to Lindelof, Coon and Ecclestone talk in Texas this summer at a TV festival.  Bumped into Eccleston walking round in Austin after and said hello, was happy to stop and have a quick chat.  Really nice guy.

Yeah, really enjoying this at the mo. Last couple of eps have been great.

The only bum note was that horribly smug christian song at the end of last week's Eccleston episode. Not sure where they were going with that.

Watched the last three back to back last night, great stuff. Very different from the first series but really enjoying it so far. The Eccleston episode was a bit bizarre though!
Rafa Benitez: "I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. the whole concept of the rebooted second season is faith (if not necessarily religion), so to have an overtly christian final theme to a classically christian story is not at all unusual, and far from a bum note IMO - it's called a theme for a reason :).  and every episode begins with the thoroughly agnostic song, after all (i was initially very uncertain about how that song fit tonally, but it couldn't be more perfect now).

another excellent episode.  i'd go so far as to say this is the best thing on TV at the moment.  every episode is thought-provoking, even if questions aren't always answered (although at least two of the oddball early moments were explained in the last episode - still no explanation for the nude running girls though).

and a s&g song to end the episode!  another crossover with detectorists :D

superb episode.

Spoiler
so much to praise in that episode, but that ending was a real body-blow.  my guess is that the guy who shot himself is going to be kevin's 'guide' in whatever comes next, which could be literally anything, and the job of reviving kevin will be down to the kid.

my favourite thing about the episode though, was the way the spiritual and rational explanations for patti were both expressed, and both given essentially equal viability in the crazy world where it's all going on.  this show is one of the best studies of faith and belief i've seen for a long time.

is it 10 episodes in this season?

I was talking to my wife's cousin yesterday, and she was the art department coordinator for season two, her fingers crossed that it gets renewed for season 3.

I got a few tidbits, about what's likely to happen in season three

Spoiler
theyll likely do at least half of it in Australia, which she doesn't want because they hire locally .
[close]

She said it was the best show she's worked on, HBO really do it right.

One worrying thing she said is they would often sit down for episode production planning and the script wasn't ready, so they were working quite blind. That doesn't bode well for how much fore-planning there is!

This is her IMDb

Viewing figures were down for season 2, which is a pity because I thought it was better than season 1.

Finale was typically great, though I hadn't realised it was the finale until afterwards. Some really stand-out episodes this season. Hope it gets picked up for a third season, but I'm not so sure it will.

I'm hoping the fact that this season has received universal critical acclaim will mean HBO give it another season. HBO aren't usually as bothered by viewing figures as other networks. Also I can't imagine The Leftovers has a particularly high budget, the entire season must have cost less than one episode of Game of Thrones.
