I think Stan's new girlfriend is a spy just have a funny feeling. This is my favourite show ever btw
Yeah, when Stan described her as a female Phillip, I was thinking SPY.

that girlfriend... who was she in TWD?  andrea?

not much to say when a series is this good  :)

Spoiler
it's looking more likely that the midge programme will turn out innocuous (developing pest-resistant crops or whatever), but those two nice marks at the agri business will end up dead anyway.  philip already looks at breaking point (seriously lost his mojo in that last episode).  i'm sure it won't help his state of mind to learn that as well as an american son and a vietnamese 'son', his russian son is on his way too :)

Spoiler

Frank Langella was masterful in his meeting with Pascha: warm, yet forceful in insisting why he can't meet Philip, but still leaving the door open that it might happen in the future. Expert handling.

Looking forward to the next edition of Blind Date Moscow. Can't wait to see who Our Oleg picks for his Pre-Approved-By-His-Father Date!

So, does Elizabeth now keep heading back to Kansas for some hot action with beardy grain guy now that she knows he's not a genocidal maniac?
Philip: 'So, you off to Kansas again this weekend?  I thought that was a dead end?'
Elizabeth: 'No, he's still a very useful source. I'm just going to pump him for more info' **packs handcuffs, whips,  all the sex toys she can find**

Poor Philip looks close to breaking.  They even show him not remembering to unlock the car door from the inside before trying to open it. What a doofus!  (Seriously though, I really liked that touch of reality).

For a second there, I was certain Oleg was going to jump off that building. Thankfully he lives. For now!

Fingers crossed that this isn't the end of Gabriel. Langella is such a terrific actor and a calming presence amidst the madness. Not sure what the significance of that last scene is though. Paige going all in?

I just realised that everything about Gabriel's house is like he's actually in the Soviet Union down to the decor and the blandness of it.

A true Soviet patriot not getting involved in that bourgeois crap of the west. ;D

Brilliant character.

Spoiler
Elizabeth being simultaneously kinda pissed that Beardy Grain Guy was cheating on her and also saying to Phillip that it wasn't OK to feel for their honey trap marks is all I ever want from this show.

They are really destroying Paige though.  After listening to surrogate grandpa Gabriel and Pastor Tim extol the virtues of the greater good, she breaks up with her boyfriend, and I assume that either Philip will have to lie to her about the truth of the wheat story, or she finds out that America isn't trying to starve her parents country into submission.

Damn, will Frank Langella be missed, even if Beloved Character Actress Margo Martindale will presumably be his replacement again.

Also:
Paige: 'Have you ever broken up with someone?'
Elizabeth: 'Of course. One time, we had to break someone and fold her into a suitca -- Oh break *up* with someone? Yeah, sure, that too'.

Well after a couple of episodes that were distinctly meh and left me wondering if the show was losing its mojo, we're back on track.

Spoiler
Poor Martha! Eating a potato with onions and then getting the most unwelcome house guest., Oh, Poor Martha!

I like how Henry is beginning to go full Alex Keaton and rebelling against his parents in his own way - by applying to join a preppy New Hampshire boarding school. Between that and Paige's Christianity, it's a long way removed from Philip & Elizabeth's upbringing.

This season is a slow burn against all of Philip's beliefs.  The Soviets are apparently using glanders (stupid unsexy glanders) in Afghanistan. The capitalist pigdogs are not looking to poison the soviet grain system, but instead looking to feed the world. His fake son looks like he wants out, and his father figure has gone home. He has to crack soon.

Oleg has been great this year. Really bringing an American-esque DGAF vibe to life back home.
He'll definitely become an oligarch when the cold war ends (if he survives that long).

Did I just see The Americans ending with a cliffhanger? :)

Good stuff again. Liked all the side plots in the episodes no matter how brief or not they were.

Spoiler
Like how they have begun seriously considering going back to mother Russia and the difficulties pertaining that.

Paige again vital in the episode and her reaction with the crucifix necklace was telling (Elizabeth's too) and the practice afterwards. Stan again (after being stunned by how quick things have moved for the female informant with the Russian guy) clearly worried about another person they use in his talks with Gregory House's former employee.

Good to see Mischa again. Oleg's scenes with his parents were boss.

Philip lately isn't that right, he seems he had enough of everything, so Tuan's Machiavellian technique wouldn't be left untouched. Nice balance of being upset but keeping his professionalism walking down the street at the end.

Oleg is such a great character, and the actor playing him is doing a great job. He's making an investigation of corruption in Soviet food supplies look like the most riveting topic on television.

Was I the only one getting really tense at the edits between Tuan telling the Jennings of his strategy and Paige in the basement with the rope? Or was I just overthinking that?

I'm finding it really hard to reconcile that the actor playing weedy ol' Pastor Tim with his doofus haircut also being the same guy playing tough hedge fund manager Dollar Bill on Billions   :D

Tuan is such an annoying twit. There is a great chance that if Phillip and Elizabeth didn't go over there, Pasha the slasher would have croaked. Even if he was discovered so quickly, which I doubt, I don't think his parents would have known what to do, and certainly wouldn't have been able to carry it so easily if they were alone.

It seems like Liz and Phil are staying, but I assume that's a decision they'll live to regret.

I do hope Martha adopts and finds some happiness.

Even if she's not, the writers certainly want us to believe Stan's gf from TWD is an Illegal.

Only one season left :(

Spoiler
This show really knows how to cut a montage ((Gonna need a montage..)) and to use it effectively in moving the story on. Tuan calls Elizabeth out for her petty bourgeois concerns (when it's usually Phillip that this gets thrown at), and then we move into a Goodbye Yellow Brick Road montage, where Elton dreams of leaving the rat race behind for a more idyllic, pastoral life.  Which Elizabeth now seems to be pushing against, though possibly on her kids's behalf.

Stan: 'I hate my job, I'm miserable and it's killing me'
TWD Lady: 'Oh no, you should stick at it. it's for the greater good'
Yeah, Stan's other half is definitely working him. It's just that we don't know on whose behalf.  Stan's not an idiot, he'll figure her out soon.

While I thought there was a lot of drag in the middle episodes this season, and quite a few dead ends (no resolution of the grain story, or Oleg's supply chain corruption), the family dynamic is so good and it's setting it up nicely for the final season.

Is it still Poor Martha, by the way? She seemed happy/sad in her scene (and Alison Wright is so, so good).

Agree. Really love Oleg's struggles and the insights into his family history. The guy playing him has been brilliant. I've struggled at times with this current series -especially on the America side of the story. However, I've found this segment on Soviet society fascinating. Love the dramatic irony - both in America & Russia - that all these characters & what they are hoping achieve are, in the end, totally futile. A whole era of history is coming to a close, in a few years they will look back and wonder what it was all for.

Tuan the little git.

I'll be sad when this show is over for good.

I agree the Soviet side of the story has been fascinating, love how grim they make Moscow, the supermarkets, prisons, room decor.

I bet all those double agents who defected to Russia during the height of the cold war like the Cambridge Five were pining to go home after a few months.

Thought the season was quite good but maybe not as good as previous ones, especially Stan's story line which seems to be going very slowly. I do miss some of the earlier tense moments from previous seasons where Stan was close to getting the spies and I wonder if they will ever go back to that in the last season.

Absolutely, it's up there with the best, a shame it's not as widely recognised as other, lesser shows.

Any predictions?

I think Stan will find out, and not make it out alive.

Well, this is escalating quickly.

Six episodes down, four to go.

Spoiler
I wish Phillip had decided not to sue Kimmy before having sex with her...

Last nights episode was particularly sweary...have they said 'fuck' before, let alone twice in an episode.

My theory right now with Elizabeth - working with a terminally ill woman, smoking all the time, cyanide pill - is that she'll find out she has cancer and top herself. But maybe that's too obvious.

The FBI getting hot on the tails of The Illegals could lead them to Elizabeth and Philip, but I think it will end up with Stan's wife being the one caught.
