Hey guys. Looking for some advice. Currently a Virgin Media customer and have rang around to try and get the best deal. Got two great deals from Sky and Virgin and now trying to choose. Both deals have the full package tv. Only issue is that we don't live in a BT infinity area meaning we can only get 'Sky unlimited ' broadband. With VM we can get fibre optic broadband.

Which do you think I should go with. Is sky that much better or will the internet be significantly slower?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Last year I was a full virgin media customer and then moved , I wanted sky q but they didn't have fibre broadband in the area so went for virgin broadband and skyQ . Got the full sky Q package for £42 a month and virgin phone and broadband 50mb for £21 a month  both on 12 month contract . Had a couple of issues with the skyQ mini box and the engineer tried to blame the virgin router but he just installed a sky booster and its been pretty good except for the odd reset .

Right. That's helpful thanks. We've been offered both deals for basically the same price. I just wanted to know whether Sky's interface and features such as SkyGo were worth it compared to Virgins superior internet?

Told Sky to fuck off. Gone BT. With Murdoch taking over 100% I cannot look myself in the mirror and remain a subscriber. It was bad enough when they owned 30% but wifey's GoT kept it going despite me wanted to off it.

I want nothing to do with Murdoch or his products. Finally Ive got my way. Fuck off Sky.

I recently received a code, had everything installed on Monday, can confirm its the whole package with HD (you dont get LFCTV and those types of paid channels of course).  Having been using other methods to get sky for the past few years, it feels great to have proper HD and all the bells and whistles back.  Paying £47 a month for sky q 4k box and multiroom with the whole package.  I have someone else paying the extra £12 for their multiroom so all in all im only paying £35.  Really happy to use this for the next 18 months until something else comes along (from the community).  Trust me to get it installed once the football ended tho! :(

Forgot to ask, is there anyway to get the tv guide up with a single button press? Its a tad annoying pressing menu then scrolling all the way up to select the tv guide, would be much handier with a single button press.

Only realised you can press that sky logo on the remote and it takes you to your recordings, they have that really well hidden!

Just a small box around 10 inches by 6 only needs to be plugged in and a hdmi lead to a tv , in effect you xan move it from room to room or like me  velcroed behind a wall hung tv so no box on show . Linked to your main box with all your recordings

Anyone having this problem or shed any light on wether it's a sky q or broadband issue , sky q mini works fine then as soon as son goes on his xbox one with a headset the skyq programmes buffer or go off citing connectivity issues

Without wanting to come across as patronising, it's because you need a Sky Go Extra sub to do that. If you pay the extra few quid you can watch on 4 extra devices - including consoles.

Wankers. I don't even need 2 devices, never mind 4. Being able to watch shit through my PS4 would have been preferable to my laptop, but I'm not paying for it.

our existing deal was

Sky Original + sports, unlimited broadband and line rental for £74.90 a month.

I cancelled yesterday and attempted to sign my wife for the new deal today but have been told that's not possible. After nearly an hour and a half on the online chat I'm renewing my contract with the following....

Sky Q 1tb box (free box) £15 install and Sky MS £12 a month. Box sets and Sports 50% off. Sky Fibre £10 a month with £50 set up.

So all in all, £72 a month for 12 months but now have sky Q, box sets (and sports) and fibre.

obv not as good as the new sign up deal which we cant get for 30days and I think it expires in 5, but a lot better than what we had and no messing around of waiting 30 days, disconnecting and then getting it back up.

Received a letter last week stating that they are going to apply the same discounts to my account going forward from next month as the 12month deal is nearly up. Makes me wonder what they are up to as I had to fight to get anything last year but this year they are offering me that without me even trying!

I am a bit pissed with them at the movement though as when I got the deal last year I was offered a mini box for £30 but I didn't need it at the time. Was told the note would be put on my account and I could call up and get it for £30 at any time. Tried to do that recently and was told that offer has finished and they cant do it. It was described to me as an offer that had an expiry date, just an offer I can activate when I needed it.

They seem to have got the hint that they need to do more to keep customers from leaving them rather than only offering the best deals to new customers. My sister was offered a really good deal last week as a 13+ year customer (movies and sport for a few quid extra) and a free upgrade to Q with 2 boxes.

The amount of times I've had to push to get a semi-decent deal as a long standing (10+ years, 15+ for my parents) customer compared to their new customer deals has been a joke. I even cancelled my subscription, which they were happy for me to do, and signed up in my partners name as they simply wouldn't offer me a deal anywhere near what they would a new customer.

We were on half price for 12 months, it's up soon, really need to get on the phone to them cos it's going to be £91/mo!

Considering going back to Virgin if they won't offer a discount cos it saves £26 straight away with BT.

I'm wondering if anyone has had any of these problems with their Sky box. Yesterday my input no 2 had no signal and I lost all the programme information. Also in the evening I lost BBC1, it was saying there was a technical fault on it, but I could get BBC1 HD. The channel came back later on in the evening, and also I got some signal in the input 2 as well. Today when I turned on the TV I'm getting a message about their being a technical problems on all my channels. I switched it off at the wall and it came back eventually after resetting the box, but any ideas what is causing these problems anyone?

I had a similar problem on my Freesat box a few months back, it was the LNB on the dish failing. Had one supplied and fitted for £80 with a 5 year warranty, I'll dig out the number when I get home (assuming you're in Liverpool). Seems to be a common problem.

If you're in contract with Sky, give them a ring and see if they will fix it.

I will do that as well Claire, even if I'm getting sick of it. Last time I complained they gave me loads of tokens to spend, but the cable business is driving me mad to be honest. It's about the third time I've had issues with the signaling.

I spoke to them tonight, I'm currently without a picture little signal in either the input 1 or 2. Told me on the phone that the only way to get a "long term improvement" was to get this Q box, but the offer was £120, erm no thanks. Buggers. Exactly why am I paying more for this solution when they are denying me a service I'm currently paying for. Will be back on to them shortly saying I will go somewhere else.

This whole Sky Q thing is beginning to piss me off. When I renewed my contract 2 months ago I was quoted £200 for the 1TB box plus a mini box for multiroom and I told them I was happy with what I had at the rate I was paying. You can now see new customers getting offers of 1TB Q box plus mini box for a £20 fee vs. the £200 I was quoted. They'll be getting a phone call in the next few days off me

I've had it a couple of weeks now and don't like it at all.

Also haven't worked out how the hell you choose a point in a recorded show to watch from. Used to be able to do it dead easy on my old Sky+ HD box

I have got a deal for the Q box in the end. Someone came round confirmed the current box is knackered. After taking advice I was in a favouable position to negoiate on the price. As well as savings on calls and broadbant got something off the bill as well. I'm in an 18 month contract but the moment Virgin come to the area I will probably try there.
