Only slightly over half-a-point-per-game over Chelsea from now 'til the end of the season, and it's theirs.

Chelsea +4
Man City -3
Liverpool -5
Spurs -7
Arsenal -9
Man Utd - 10 (still to play)
Everton -11

A Man U draw tomorrow would be swell.
So United are -12 after today's draw?

16 behind Chelsea in the APLT, and Chelsea are coming to Old Trafford next weekend. That should be fun.

Just puts into perspective how poor all the "top" teams have been except Chelsea. Been an odd start to the season. Honestly, I wonder how much it being a post World Cup year has affected things. Plus, City always seem to get off to slow starts, so I could see them putting it together and going on a good run starting soon.

Remember someone at the beginning of the thread suggesting that they reckon results will be slow in starting due to it being a post world cup year. Certainly looks that way. Would possibly give the lower end teams an advantage at the beginning of the season aswell due to less world cup lagged players

Prof, I think you should probably add Southampton to the table.

Anyone still wants to argue with this?

Come over to the Results Comparison Thread and you'll see how both Chelsea and Manchester City have both improved on last season's results and are actually in a very close dogfight for the title:  http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index.php?topic=315775.msg13325482#msg13325482

p.s. we're only 3 points behind last season's pace in terms of results from equivalent matches.

p.s.s.  Southampton are only keeping pace with last season's equivalent results.  Their schedule  is likely front loaded with easy matches for them.

A quick look around the weekend's fixtures, and how they could affect the APLT.

Leaders Chelsea travel to APLT whipping boys Manchester United, in a game that could leave the title race looking close to being settled just a quarter of the way into the season. It's a par 1 for Chelsea, par 3 for United, but with Chelsea clear favourites to take all the points, the Russian crime syndicate-funded London outfit could well find themselves on +6, while the side from the dark side of Manchester could take full advantage of not being in Europe by ending the weekend on a staggering -15.

Chelsea win= Chelsea +6 (+2) Manchester United -15 (-3)
Draw = Chelsea +4 (=) Manchester United -14 (-2)
Manchester United win = Chelsea +3 (-1) Manchester United -12 (=)

Champions Man City travel to West Ham in their third Par 1 match of the season. They won away to Newcastle on the opening day, and kept to par with a draw against Arsenal. West Ham would be the surprise package of the season so far if not for Southampton, and the Par 1 looks about right on current form.

City win = City -1 (+2)
Draw = City -3 (=)
West Ham win = City -4 (-1)

Liverpool entertain Hull City Not Hull Tigers in what should be a straightforward Par 3 win on paper. The reds are looking to consolidate league form, while Hull will no doubt be encouraged by the apparent fragility of the Liverpool defence. Hull's only win away from home to date has come at drossfest QPR.

Liverpool win = Liverpool -5 (=)
Draw = Liverpool -7 (-2)
Hull win = Liverpool -8 (-3)

Spurs may not be the most impressive team in the league at the moment, but the APLT shows them currently occupying 4th place, which would probably make Tottenham fans very happy, or they might just sack the boss again, like they did last time, who knows? Who cares? Spurs entertain underperforming Newcastle United in what should be an easy Par 3. It's still too early in the season for Tottenham to bottle it, or for Newcastle to turn it round.

Tottenham win = Spurs -7 (=)
Draw = Spurs -9 (-2)
Newcastle win = Spurs -10 (-3)

Arsenal used to be boring because they played dull football. Now they are boring because every season seems to follow the same pattern for them. This time around, they are starting slowly, as the APLT shows them in 5th place on -9. And with a par 3 away to Sunderland, they have no chance to improve on that position. Sunderland are coming off the back of a pasting, with a lot to prove. If they pull it off, Arsenal could find themselves in double figures below the line at an early stage of the season for the first time.

Arsenal win = Arsenal -9 (=)
Draw = Arsenal -11 (-2)
Sunderland win = -12 (-3)

Everton are probably very happy that Manchester United are doing so badly, as it deflects from their own form, which has been utterly shocking. 13th in the traditional table, with just 9 points from 8 games, they sit 6th on the APLT on -11. With a short Par 3 trip away to newly promoted Burnley this weekend, they'll need a win to stay on -11, while the relegation-threatened new boys could make life very uncomfortable for the toffees.

Everton win = Everton -11 (=)
Draw = Everton -13 (-2)
Burnley win = Everton - 14 (-3)

Chelsea +4 (still to play)
Man City -4
Liverpool -7
Spurs -7 (still to play)
Arsenal - 9
Everton -11 (still to play)
Man Utd - 12 (still to play)

Spurs, UTD & Everton with Par 3's tomorrow. Chelsea away at UTD have a par 1 and a chance to move +10 ahead of city in the APLT with a win tomorrow. A loss for UTD will see them slip to -15 and be terrible shape.

Disappointing result for us see us drop further away from the top. Here's hoping Spurs and UTD lose tomorrow....

We’ll still finish in top four - and they won’t. You can quote me on this in May.

The APLT is going to end up looking ridiculous the way results are panning out at the moment.  The y-axis is going to need about forty notches on it by Christmas.

Chelsea +4
Man City -4
Liverpool -7
 Arsenal  -9
Spurs -10
Everton  -11
Man Utd  -14

 :o

Next week we go to Newcastle away with a Par 1 and a chance to gain +2 points. UTD are th only other team with a par 1 with an away trip to Man City.

All the other teams have Par 3 games:

Chelsea (QPR Home)
Man City (UTD Home)
Arsenal (Burnley Home)
Spurs (Villa Away)
Everton (Swansea Home)

If we can get a result against Newcastle in the Saturday 12:45pm KO, we can put pressure our rivals to win their Par 3's. Spurs & Evertons result isn't a given.

Its a par 1, so a win is +2. From the looks of it that puts us on the line or over it.

Newcastle would be in the easiest three par 1's though. It's as good an opportunity to make ground in the APL as we'll get.

Looking like it! But last season was an inflated year anyway. The 71point mark on the graph will be about right.

Prof, I think you should probably add Southampton to the table.

Anyone still against this?

They're 8 points ahead of us and 9 points ahead of United. They're practically favorites for 4th out of them, LFC, United, Spurs and Everton.

Why bother waiting?  Even if they lose their next two games they are still going to be ahead of the majority of teams in the apl.

Chelsea +4
Man City -4
Liverpool -8
 Arsenal  -9
Spurs -10
Everton  -13
Man Utd  -15

Both Liverpool and UTD drop 1pt to par with their losses. Everton are the only team to drop points (-2) from a par 3 game with their draw at home to Swansea so they fall to -13.

Next week sees us host Chelsea with Liverpool needing a win to stay on par. Chelsea on the otherhand will have a chance to really push on as this is a par 1 for them. Arsenal are the only other team with a par one chance with an away trip to Swansea. Win that and they will move ahead of us in the APLT.

The other teams have respected par 3 games but I can see more slip ups here:

UTD v Palace
QPR v City
Spurs v Stoke
Sunderland v Everton

If Everton don't win I think we can safely say that they will out of the race for top 4. Southampton, on paper, have a comfortable home fixture against Leicester. If they win that one and Everton fail to win, I think they should be replaced. Depending on results, we could find ourselves out of the top 4 in the APLT with a huge amount of work to do. Chelsea at home all of a sudden becomes a massive game for us, if it wasn't already!

We’ll still finish in top four - and they won’t. You can quote me on this in May.

It's a little weird how, outside the top two, nobody's been within touching distance of the 71-point line for a while.  The 2012/13 table had a brief bunching like that around week 15:

at which point Chelsea, Spurs and (much later) Arsenal hit some decent form, while Liverpool and Everton never did.  But otherwise I don't see anything like it in the last three APLTs.

Because I don't need to? I don't know why this should be considered rude when Southampton have been clearly playing far better than LFC, United and the others. And they've got the points to back it up. Eight points after ten games is quite a difference, and we'll also be playing Chelsea next week while they await Leicester, so that could easily end up with them extending that lead to 11.

  Mate, the point is, the creator of this has put in a stack of work and keeps it updated for our benefit.  It is completely and solely up to Prof how he wants to manage it.  He's advised that he'll do it, in his time.  Your "but I want it now" approach smacks of a spoilt child who wants his (or her) every demand met instantly!  Prof will do it when he's ready and when he does, you can say thank you!  If you keep annoying him (and the rest of us) about it, he may well scrap the whole thing and we'd all be the worse off for it.  So just be patient and thankful for being able to enjoy the APLT.

Except that I'm not demanding anything. I'm simply offering a logical argument on why Southampton should probably be on this table while I haven't seen anyone back up his opinion on why they should not. This is a forum, made for discussions. Prof has started this thread so we can discuss the APTL and offer our opinions on it. I'm offering mine, I have been for the last three weeks because their actual form is apparent, and I said 'I think' they should be added, I have not demanded anything.

As I said I'll add them next week  :wave

Thank you! But do you really need to drop anyone? After Chelsea, it's quite tight amongst all of them and pretty much anyone can grab 3rd/4th.

It's up to Prof in the end, and Deo has started asking after every game, which seems just a bit rude to me. If you want to make your own version of the graph then what is stopping you?

There's a lot of things stopping me from making my own version of a graph.

I'll go back to following this thread in silence.

Just to make it clear where I stand on this.  I appreciate all the support from those of you who follow this thread.  When I first started sharing it, I did wonder how well it would be received and I do accept it isn't perfect or for everyone.

Nessy and a few others have added a lot to the conversation over the years and it is also highly appreciated.  I also appreciate that some of you have defended the aplt when the trolls have appeared and kept the threads on track.

I'm always open to criticism and the views of you all as it's for you I share this.  If teams need adding, I'm happy to do it, the only reason I like to wait is because it takes time to set up new teams, and too many lines on the graph are confusing, particularly early in the season.  In previous years we've added teams and watched them fall into irrelevance as far as the aplt is concerned.

Suareznumber7 I hope you don't go into silence as the conversations in here are all valuable.

Thanks again everyone
