Hi, what potential is that - in goals? in height of jump? in facial hair? in tatoo?

being at the right place at the right time...don't ask me to explain. I just hear pundits say that all thetime about strikers and that's  what I see fromhim

Tonight he made some nice touches and didn't put a foot wrong except for 2 chances which he knows he should have done better. I loved seeing his exasperation in not controlling the ball and taking those chances though, there wasn't an insouciant attitude that we've seen recently from other players, this lad was distraught at not doing better for his team.

Good luck for the season now Danny.

He's a fairly average finisher, as I said before we purchased him - both the numbers and the eye test will tell you this. Anyway, I hope it works out for him as he seems like a good lad desperate to make an impression.

People forget that Ings is a young striker, yeah he may have been at Burnley blah blah blah, In my opinion he wants to come here and work his arse off, he's a million miles better than Lambert, give the fella a break, he knows he's not gonna be first choice, think he will do really well, player for the team, comes across as he will give his all no matter what. get on his side and stop being so negative! he knows he's got to work hard....not many players around who show passion, this lad does.

Lambert's a better footballer than Ings.

i thought he was below par today, also seen him have a few stinkers for Burnley and 1 for the ENG u21's.. he will still prove to be astute buy though.

I think he needs more than just graft. If that was the measure of potential,  Mad Erik would have been a 20 goal season man

He'll need more than hard graft to succeed here, Borini too was a hard worker, hopefully Ings has that extra ability to shine and take his chances when they come along. Time will tell I suppose.

Didn't serve Kuyt too bad, although his work rate was through the roof.

I think he'll see goals in our system, he suits it and works hard. He might not score as many as an elite premier league striker but I'm pretty sure he'll chip in with a few compared to our strikers last season.

Borini is a headless chicken who was played wide often.

Stick Ings in and around the box and he'll grab more goals this season than Lambert or Balo last season.

Not that that is a great achievement, rather an upgrade.

This thread was on page 2, two hours after the Helsinki game which half pleased me because I was expecting it to be high on page one infiltrated by moaners, so I bumped it because I was pleased by his endeavour.

Then you turn up. Meh. As I said last night to another poster, sometimes you can click on another thread (or preferably another forum in your case) without having to have your say all the time.

4 games for us. 2 games where his touch has looked very poor (Bris/Helsinki) and 2 games where he's poached a few good goals (Adelaide/Malaysia). His movement has generally been good throughout. I just hope he becomes better on the ball

I like both Ings and Origi, but I am hoping that Benteke absolutely sets our world alight a la Torres, because I don't think Origi or Ings are anywhere near the level that would terrorize defences at the moment. Sturridge is, which is why when Benteke and Sturridge are both fit, we should play with 2 up front.

In the premier league, probably not many if the other forwards are fit.

In the PL, hopefully none.

It would mean Benteke is firing on all cylinders and Sturridge is mostly fit.

I think he will too. he looks a hard grafter and quite a handful in the box as well. Seems to know how to create space and a chance.  His off the ball seems decent as well but what he does with it is up for debate. . Good player to get on when we need another body up front.

Anywhere between 10 and 25 in the league depending on Sturridge's fitness. He'll also likely start most cup games when fit until the later stages I reckon.

Was just going to say similar - the little I have seen of him so far reminds me of Dirk - quite a compliment - hope he can improve here and nail a place down - he certainly seems to have the desire.

Isn't he from Bournemouth, no? I hope we can get to see him today, him or Origi. And that's probably more than likely if we have a comfortable lead.

But thankfully seems to have more technical ability than Dirky did.

I suspect he will feature tonight. If we we have Bournemouth worried about both Coutinho's shooting and Ings running in behind they will not know whether to push up or sit back.

Not quite, he was born in Winchester which is closer to Southampton than Bournemouth.  He did come up through the ranks of Bournemouth though.

If last night is an indicator of how we intend to play with Benteke I'd have thought Ings would be quite useful to actually have on the pitch, no?

I wanted to see him in place of Ibe/Lallana. He offers more of a threat and would naturally play closer to Benteke IMO. Must be frustrating for him so far.

That might have happened had Hendo not gone off. I'd like to see him get 25 mins with Benteke.

probably 7 starts in all comp.

i don't think he'll start all the cup games as we have 4 strikers queued ahead of him.

Think Rodgers is doing him a favour so far, there's no point in giving him just a few minutes to impress while we're defending. There's almost no chance he'll score and you don't want to knock his confidence so soon. It will be nicer for Ings to make his debut with a start, or at least as a sub in a game we aren't sitting back in

I would seriously give him his debut away on Monday night, playing against Arsenal we obviously aren't going to control the ball but we will get chances, as we have seen in Arsenal's first two games v West Ham and Palace. Even though we lost 4-1 last April, we actually had chances early on in that match, if Sterling could finish and if Markovic could lay on a simple pass then we could of been leading that game.

I think we will need more around Benteke when we do have the ball in Arsenal's half, we need to have some runners ahead of Henderson and Milner and not just Ibe and Lallana trying to give us width and fire it into Benteke or cut back in and give Coutinho a square ball, we need runners in behind Mertesacker and Koscielny, and that is what Ings is brilliant at. His movement is really good!

Return of the diamond for me on Monday, bring Ings in up top with Benteke.

Do we really? Firminio's not really a striker, Sturridge is hardly queued ahead of him while he's out injured and it remains to be seen whether he's currently ahead of Origi in the pecking order or not.
I think he's pretty much nailed on to start in our first Europa group game and we'll see from there.

You really think a diamond is the way to go against Arsenal when the last time we played they spanked us 4-1? I wouldn't mind seeing it, but I suspect we won't. I'm expecting the same team to start, for the same reason it started against Stoke. Brendan will want to grind this one out.

Ings will get his chances. They won't start with Arsenal.
