Don't understand how people can set their expectations this early.

I set mine in 1976  :D

As always, I expect us to win the league and unless and until it becomes mathematically impossible, I'll keep on hoping and expecting us to do it.

Mind you, I'd still be expecting us to win the Premier League even if we got relegated the season before.

Fuck realism and managing hope and expectations. Aim for the stars and all that.

Really depends on who we sign. If we start the season with a midfield of Hendo+Milner with Benteke upfront for any length of time (assuming DS gets injured) then I can't see us finishing higher than 6th

Id like us to win something, make a big play for europe, go back to the balls to the wall attacking play and really show we can challenge the big teams in the league (in head to heads). Im fairly pessimistic about all of them really.

Prediction 6th. Would be delighted to be wrong....unless we finish lower than 6th

17???

in all seriousness, its tough to expect anything or predict anything for next season yet, but, I quite fancy Danny Ings to score a few for us next season.

One thing 2013/14 showed us is that it is possible to come from nowhere and (almost) win the league, of course this year showed us you can also (almost) win the league and plummet back to obscurity just as fast.

(Almost) a victory for the overly optimistic whilst the pessimists get a bit of validation as well (although they probably wouldn't trust it)

Does anyone else want us to go hell for leather in the Europa league?  With finishing top 4 being very unlikely it's a competition we should be taking even more seriously.

Also considering Italy are catching us up in the co-efficient league it's something English teams need to perform in if we are going to keep the 4 champs league places.

Off course! It's a "no brainer" for me. We should do so in all comps.

This does not feel like Liverpool Football Club, I cannot think of any other close season where I have ever felt that there would not be good reasons for taking an optimistic view of the forthcoming season.

Have you just come back from the pub?
Agree with Milner, whilst he cannot be classed as visionary signing for the future he will certainly stiffen up mid-field. A bit like throwing another bag of cement into the concrete mix!
Origi seems to have been a 'busted flush' after the World Cup he seems to have forgotten about setting the world on fire and has suddenly become as ordinary as the rest of our recent signings - another loan player coming up.
FSG seem to have lost all ambition. It looks severely as though they are just happy with balancing the books, it seems to me that they will almost welcome a fat fee for Sterling and indeed are happy to offload any of the long standing players such as Skrtel if they cannot negotiate a lower paid contract with them.
Reading the runes for next season I see far many more negatives than I do positives.
This does not feel like Liverpool Football Club, I cannot think of any other close season where I have ever felt that there would not be good reasons for taking an optimistic view of the forthcoming season.
Then again maybe a small bout of realism is good for the soul and we should maybe leave the dreams to those who either have no hope or those that have built up expectations so high that they can only fall.

Our prospects of finishing in the top 4 just improved dramatically. Will wait until one or 2 weeks before the start of the season before making predictions, but I'm much more hopeful than a few days ago.

Must say, strike force of Firmino, Sturridge, Ings & Origi is not bad. Not bad at all  8)

If we can now only retain Sterling and add Clyne and Illaramendi ... ;) we would have pulled off one of our best transfer windows, after possibly one of the most disappointing seasons in a long time.

I think we're going to have a great season. I'm still excited about Markovic. Now that he's got that bedding in season out of the way, I think that signing will start to bare fruit. Lallana and Can will also be better, and hopefully Moreno. If the new signings work out, and if Sturridge and Sahko stay fit, who knows what we can achieve.
I'm an optimist though. Every summer I have the same feeling - these new signings are mustard and we're going to win the league. I've not watched the Stoke game yet, I taped it, but decided against watching it because I knew the result. It's still sat there waiting for me hit "play". I promised myself that I'll give it a viewing at that optimal point that comes every summer - when I'm missing football, I can't wait for the season to start, and I'm convinced that we're going into our league winning season. It's going to be my "keep it real" tonic.

At the end of the season my cup was drained, not surprising given that;

The end of the previous season was a nightmare, only a few thing in football are worse than losing the league, at home, against Mourinho's Chelsea, with a Gerrard slip and Torres on the pitch. (Palace was just further pain, but I suppose it could have been Everton)

We saw the worst performance/result, Stoke, in the 47 years since I first saw Liverpool

We possibly saw the worst performance in a big game (Losing to Villa) in those 47 years

We saw complete capitulation in europe, both competitions, appalling really

We saw the surrendering of our legendary status, by bending over for Real Madrid in the Autumn.

We appeared to become a selling club to others we regarded our equals not long ago (Sterling)

Except for 1 City game, we were done over by every team in the top 4, and not beating Everton

Could it have been worse, possibly. For Liverpool FC, no.

Having said that, I'm a natural optimist and therefore I've filled my cup to halfway now after Firmino's signing, it makes the Ings and Milner signings look decent, and it sends out a message. Can Markovic and Lallana will come good.

Time for optimism,
time to look forward,
time to clear out the cobwebs

2015/16,

It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good

4th (not that good then)

Next years best XI.

--------Mignolet
-----Can-Skrtel-Sakho
Lallana-Milner-Henderson-Moreno
-----Firmino-Coutinho
--------Sturridge

Probable injury alternative XI (how we'll play most of the season...)

--------Mignolet
-----Can-Skrtel-Lovren
Milner-Allen-Henderson-Moreno
--------Ibe-Coutinho
----------Ings
