Andre Wisdom - Colossus of the future at LFC?
« on: May 6, 2011, 12:13:42 pm »
He looks some player to me. Intelligent, strong, brave, committed and hardworking. He looks as impressive as Kelly and we have a few more which appear to be getting near to the stage where they can take the step up.

Really, really impressed with this lad last night. He was excellent. Wilson was decent next to him, but Wisdom looks class.

They both went in high, that's factually correct, both tried to play the ball at height.  Doku with his foot, Mac Allister with his chest.

You think there is any chance the lads are inspired by Kenny's faith in the academy (Flanagan and Robinson) and actually playing above their level?

Saw him play CM a few years ago on Setanta playing for the U16's in the youth cup and he looked head and shoulders above everyone else on the field, think he was 14 at the time and he looked as though he'd been playing the game for years.

Does a thread for a U-18 player/reserve who has never played for the 1st team add undue pressure on the lad?

Honest question.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

Could be wrong, but I really think this lad is the one to watch. More so than Suso or Silva, maybe not Sterling as the kid is a supreme talent but with Wisdom I think he's nailed on to get to the first team at some point sooner rather than later. Captaining the reserves at 17 with players like Cole, Poulsen and Ngog in it is impressive too!

He's a real leader, a physical beast, very quick, very good on the ball, and he's quite intelligent. Really looking forward to seeing him progress more.

Is the lad supposed to be injury prone? I can recall reading somewhere in the Youth/Ressies thread that he's missed some time over the past 2 years owing to injuries.

Only one injury I think. A freak one when he collided with his own player when playing for England. Kept them both out for months.
"I was pleased also with Peter Crouch. We have been talking to him, before and after his nose operation, to show more confidence with his heading.

"Now it seems to have worked. Lets say that if he has a few games without scoring again, maybe we should arrange to break his nose again."

I don't think it'd put more pressure on him but it'll raise the expectations of us which would be unfair on the lad. Maybe if it was changed to "development" instead of "appreciation"?

Aside from being a very good player, not just a good defender a good footballer he's also a leader. Does a very good job captaining the Ressies. Always very vocal and never hides. Got some good character among our young lads, Wisdom as I say but there's also Coady who's a born leader, Spearing captained all the way through the youth teams and the reserves, Sterling never bitches or moans despite the treatment he suffers at the hands of defenders, Morgan puts in the miles every game he plays like a mini Dirk Kuyt.

Character can't be taught and a few of the lads, including Wisdom, have it in droves. Itll stand them, and us, in good stead.

I don't see any harm in that, to be honest.

It's nice to be able to keep up with the progress of our younger/ fringe players.

According to some T, they never want to see the likes of a Gerrard, a Fowler and an Owen bursting through the ranks ever again. Blood them till they're abar 35 or something like that I think the crux of their argument was.

I wasn't having a go.

The reason I asked is that 99% of people will come into this thread to praise the lad and just to find out how he's doing. Most people will realise that he's a young player and still learning his trade.

It's the 1% I'm worried about that will get on his back for a mistake or a poor performance in a reserve game.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

I think the point of that was that they played too much when they were young and were washed up by 26.
Less so with Gerrard, who was introduced gradually, rested plenty and missed a lot of games through "growing pains" in his early career.
Fuck the Daily Mail.
