#GERRARD8 - Your favorite Gerrard attribute?
« on: May 16, 2015, 08:19:00 pm »
Was it his thunderbolts from distance? His crisp, sharp deadly accurate passing? Those crosses with whip and pace? Them driving runs from deep impossible to track and stop? How about those deadly finishes in a one on one situation? Maybe you were a fan of his mentality, his drive, his leadership and his attitude? Did his versatility do it for you? Those timely important goals in the biggest of games?

For me my favourite thing about Gerrard was those crunching challenges. My favourite one of all time was when he tracked Ronaldo for a good 30-40 yards keeping pace with him all the way as United tried to threaten from a promising counter attack. He followed Ronaldo not only did he follow him but he kept pace with him forced him out wide and made it impossible for him to cut inside then absolutely nailed him with a crunching perfectly timed tackle which saw the ball go miles and left Ronaldo on the ground like the bitch he is.

I often wonder if Kenny Dalglish would have cut it at right back in a European cup final. I wonder if Graeme Souness would have scored 20+ goals in a season if he was moved from central midfield to the right wing. I wonder if Billy Liddell would have scored 20+ goals in a season if he had to play behind the striker. I could go on and on

Ask me who the greatest ever player to play for Liverpool is, and I don’t need to ponder it too much. It's a pretty obvious answer

Picking out 1 attribute? Fuck only knows where to start

Too difficult to name one.

In my lifetime he was the most dynamic player I've ever seen.

To use an Americanism he's the most 'clutch' player I've ever known. Last minute goals, game changing goals, cup final goals. He stepped up every fucking time.

I said it in the other thread. His greatest attributes are his loyalty and integrity. A real family man who stood up for the people he served, even in the face of adversity. Fuck the football for a second, we are talking about a phenomenal human being, who also had a talent for football. That's why he's my hero.

That's why Kenny is a big a legend as he is. His work within the club, the community, the hillsborough disaster. Rafa Benitez and his work with the Hillsborough foundation, the tears at the anniversary.

They are legends for their footballing achievement, but it takes more than that to be a Liverpool legend. Honesty, loyalty, a commitment to the people of Liverpool and the passion to fight for those supporters, even when times are hard and pastures new are plenty.

Honesty. Loyalty. Integrity.

The real attributes that make you a Liverpool legend.

His big game mentality.

Never know anything like it. He's scored in every major final available to him (winning too). He's scored in derbies, against the mancs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, huge European clubs. Even now, the last couple of games he's dragged us to four points despite clearly his legs being gone.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

I often wonder if Kenny Dalglish would have cut it at right back in a European cup final.

Let me help you here Billy. Kenny at 25 years of age would have cut it in any position in a European Cup Final. No need to wonder any more.

He was one of us, nobody will ever come close to him not just in terms of his footballing ability, but for who he was, he represented the red half of this city, he really was more than just a player. It wont be the same without him... No player is bigger than the club but Gerrard came close for me, every trophy we win from now on won't be as good as any trophy we won with him as our captain lifting it (for me of course).

It's an attribute that I'm going to take the liberty of predicting.

The attribute of not becoming a self serving turncoat as soon as he leaves the club and jumps on the media band wagon.

Won't happen because he's genuinely one of us.

The tackles.
Seen a lot of fine footballers, but never seen an offensive player run 30 yards to tackle at the sideline. It meant so much more for the team than winning the ball.
