LFC Opinion Survey w/ RESULTS (85% Pro-Rafa)
« on: April 12, 2010, 11:44:41 pm »
A valued contributor to this forum (FAT SCOUSER) posed a few questions to another member of this forum here. I thought it would be a good idea to create a survey asking questions along the same lines, to find out if there's a correlation between age/nationality/length of time as a Liverpool supporter and loyalty to a manager.

There's no hidden agenda - each question is worded in a neutral way, and the aim is just to attempt to find an answer as to why people have such strong opposing opinions on the subject of our manager. If enough replies are received, I'll post the results here.

The survey consists of only a few questions, and should take less than 30 seconds to complete. It can only be submitted once. Please be honest.

It is located >>>HERE<<<

If anyone wants to share the survey link with another LFC forum, then please feel free to! (but only LFC-specific forums, so as to reduce the chance of non-LFC fans skewing the results)

Basic results will be published here after peak Internet traffic time in the UK tonight (around 21GMT). The thread title will be changed once the results are available. Further analysis to find trends may be done at a later date.

Finally, to those asking about the 'year you became a fan' question, if you feel you were born into it, then that's fine; put your year of birth. It's mainly to determine the era in which you started supporting Liverpool.

The Results (after 800+ replies)

Liverpool fans were asked: "Do you want Rafael Benitez as Liverpool manager for the foreseeable future?"

Of those that replied 'No', many gave the name of the manager they would want instead:
(Unfortunately I haven't found a way of getting the text responses in an easily readable format yet, however...)

The majority of people who voted 'No' suggested Mourinho as manager. Other notable suggestions included (in descending order): Guus Hiddink, Kenny Dalglish, Laurent Blanc, Roy Hodgson. (Someone even suggested Gary Megson - whoever that was, thanks for the laugh :D)

The effect of age on opinion?

UK opinion vs Overseas?

From this we can make the following assumptions:
  • Roughly 85% of LFC fans are in support of Rafa.
  • The majority of that 15% not in support of Rafa would choose Mourinho as manager.
  • The older generation of fans are slightly more likely to be unhappy with Rafa.
  • Fans from the UK are slightly more likely to be unhappy with Rafa, when compared to overseas fans.

You can view the live results HERE (basic analysis only unfortunately). The survey is still ongoing (partly because I don't know how to stop it :P), but over 800 replies is a big enough sample size, so I suppose you could call these results above 'correct'.

If I get time in the future to analyse the data in more detail (make use of the beginning supporting year, for example) then I will, but until then, I think these results are quite interesting. Thanks to everyone who took part :)

Plenty of replies already, interesting results so far. I won't post the results until we get a sufficiently large sample size. At this rate though, looks like it won't take too long for that to happen. :)

I'm no whopper and I'm not fishing. Whether FS was taking the piss or not, the results will still be useful, as for once we can get a realistic idea of how many fans are supporters of our current manager or not.

Not really. How are you weighting the likelihood that people with a strong negative opinion - sack Rafa - are probably more likely to answer than people who are happy with the status quo?

Why do you think that?
Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.

It's a good point, but I figure that as it's so quick to complete the survey, people of both opinions will answer in the name of science! :)

Your survey insists that those unhappy with rafa must have a replacement in mind so it is flawed in principle.

So  what are the results so far?

I don't want to publish the results yet as it may sway opinions of future votes (you never know!). I can tell you that 134 surveys have been completed so far. According to statistical theories, we'll need around 400-500 responses minimum to get a good idea of the population's opinion. At this rate, the results may be published within the next 24 hours.

Alan, then perhaps you (or another Mod) could organize a poll of that nature on this forum? The people who participate on the regular banter on either side will be more likely to respond regardless of their position on the issue, and then the results of the two polls can be compared. If there is no statistical difference, then there is an additional verification of the results.

I reckon its about the age by which you had memorised the players names and wore jerseys of your own volition ;D
