Come on Jamie....  At least Kenny will be thinking about Bolton, which is gonna be an incredibly tough game.
The king showed us last season that league position came ahead of the Europa League and rightly so.  I'd be delighted to see wholesale changes for this match.

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/carragher-exeter-is-massive

Jamie Carragher is determined to make Exeter City the first step on Liverpool's path to Carling Cup glory.

The Reds head to St James Park on Wednesday to take part in their first round two encounter in the competition since September, 1999.

Carra insists the domestic cup competitions have taken on an extra significance due to the club's absence from Europe this year and is eager to help secure a smooth passage into round three.

He said: "Exeter is a massive game for us. We haven't been in the Carling Cup at this stage for a long time.

"There's no Europe this season so everybody at the club is determined to do as well as we can in the domestic cups.

"We need to make sure we get through that before thinking about Bolton."

So you think we need more pace in the side than the lineup the other fella put up but want to rest Suarez, Downing and Enrique who are 3 of the quickest players we have. If that team he put up struggles to create/score goals against a side who have conceeded 8 in 4 games in League 1 then the players are not good enough for a top 4 finish in the PL.
In my opinion for us to finish in the top four we need the above players to stay healthy. I think we have enough squad depth to cover anyone else but not those mentioned. I would look to play sterling only only because we have noone else who can offer us pace, i think its something that kenny will rectify before the end of the transfer window.

Every time we have played a team that contains no pace we have struggled, you can't put square pegs in round holes regardless of the oppostion.

But you are missing my point, I agree we dont want to playing the important players in this game as did the guy who you quoted but you then contradict yourself by saying we need the players who have pace (the same ones you say shouldnt play) else we will struggle against a team who are performing poorly in League1. Stirling is 16 the clamour to have him start a game is insane, put him on the bench and if we can get 2 or 3 up then give him 20 mins but we want to win this game so playing people like Maxi/Skrtel/Merieles/Spearing/Shelvey who havent had much 1st team action so far is just as important.

Currently working down in South Devon so bit of a luxury only having to travel for 30 mins to see the reds instead of usual 600 mile journey. Bit of a warning to any fans in the away end tommorrow, its not covered and a thunderstorm is predicted for early evening, so take your pacamacs! I'm alright though in the old (covered) grandstand.
let me see LFC win one more title before my time is up!

Reckon it'll be something like

                      Doni

Flanagan Carragher  Skrtel  Robinson

                Spearing  Poulsen

   Shelvey                             Maxi
                       Cole

                        Ngog
It's true to say that if Shankly had told us to invade Poland we'd be queuing up 10 deep all the way from Anfield to the Pier Head.

My thoughts exactly. I don't think ngog,  cole and poulsen should be playing. Ngog and cole have apparent interest from other clubs in the league and we wouldn't want to cup tie them imo.

Hope we play something like this:

             Carroll
Maxi Meireles Henderson
      Spearing Adam
Insua Wilson Carra Kelly
              Doni

Doubt Insua will play though. Don't think we should throw in a lot of Academy players. We have many new players as it is. We need to get them going. I believe Carroll should play for that simple reason.

                   Doni
Flanagan-Skrtel-Kelly-Insua
      Spearing-Adam
Maxi-Meireles-Downing
          Carroll

Would like to see something like this. Play the new lads to give them more time to gel and the first team players that didnt play much vs Sunderland or Arsenal.
Dont think we should play the likes of Cole,Poulsen and Ngog who probably wont be here come Sep.1st.

Assuming that Poulsen, if he's moved on, will not be playing in England, I reckon he may feature tomorrow.

There's talk of Degen and/or Joe Cole to QPR. Therefore, in order not to cup-tie them, I doubt they'll feature.

Same goes for Ngog.

So, Spearing - Poulsen as the 2 CMs? Oh boy, that looks exciting, doesn't it? I'd rather have Spearing-Coady, to be honest.

I have a hunch that since we plan to take this competition more seriously than years past, we are going to see senior players involved who have played these kinds of games in the past or for their previous clubs where the games weren't considered as much of a step-down as it seems to be in Liverpool. I am basically thinking of players like Carroll, Adam, Henderson and Carragher who might feature in some sort of capacity.

Just a quick dip into FM related scenarios but a midfield trio of Spearing-Meireles-Adam with Coady/Shelvey on the bench would be quite tasty and would clearly signal our intentions for this game and the Carling Cup in general.
