Haha. Matip could be out? For fuck's sake. Never have I seen a squad pick up so many knocks or illnesses.

Surely at this stage of the season players with knocks just get put out there?

Exactly.

100 per cent unfit not to play. Should this adage apply?

Going forward though this will be an issue or us if it keeps occurring, you look at Leicester last season and Chelsea this season, small squads but with no euro footy they seem to manage to keep their players fit were as for us you just know there will be at least one more injured player come the Friday press conference.

Nothing has been decided yet, he said none of them are out one hundred per cent, so there is still time. The way he spoke they were knocks rather than proper injuries, so nobody is definitely missing out yet. Let's just wait and see on Sunday.

We'll sort this out in the summer when we get van Dijk. He's hardly ever injured.

So lucas, klavan and Matip might be out..

Gomez alongside dejan then?

Pessimist will say that's bad news but I'm looking forward to him starting the comeback trail good and proper now. Benteke is a tough cookie but if Joe keeps him away from the 18 yard box and thinks his way through I think he'll do fine, plus Christian won't do him in a foot race.

one of our dreaded nemesis (nemesises? Nemesae?),

Nemeses because it's a pluralis of the greek i-stems. -is is the case marker in nominative singularis so you have to remove it during the declination. -ae is a latin nominative pluralis that belongs to the a-stems not the i-stems. Nemesis in plural in latin would be nemesēs as it follows the third declination. Actually the correct choice of case would probably be genitive, but i'm too tired for this and it's my holiday.

Lets twat them!

So they got a minor knock and aren't training today. That doesn't mean that they are definitely out for Sunday. A lot can happen in 3 days...

That said, even if they're out, still reckon we'd be strong favourites with this lineup (or something similar). Palace will be without Dann meaning that the only big aerial threat to mark on corners will be Benteke (which Lovren would handle) so we'd be fine in that regard.

              Mignolet
Clyne  Gomez   Lovren   Milner
                 Can
        Wijnaldum Coutinho
Firmino                       Woodburn
                  Origi

Could also go 3 at the back too if Gomez is considered a liability...

               Mignolet
     Clyne  Lovren   Gomez
Trent  Wijaldum Can   Milner
       Firmino     Coutinho
                Origi

3 at the back would allow us to double up on Zaha and Puncheon with Clyne/Trent and Milner/Gomez, and with Lovren battling it out with Benteke

Or this could be a blessing in disguise and be the making of Gomez as a Liverpool CB.

It would certainly be useful to know if he's ready going into the summer window.

That has not been confirmed yet. The manager has said they've picked up knocks. That's all it is for now anyway. All three might be able to play in the end.

And then who do you play in midfield with Lucas possibly being out as well?

Id rather not find out at this stage. He got his backside handed to him against Wolves and playing against Benteke isn't really a fair fight. Its a bit shit to be honest.

Is there anyone who only started struggling with injuries after playing for Klopp? Lallana, Lovren, Lucas, Henderson, Sturridge, Matip, all of them have struggled with injury before, if anything Lallana seems fitter under Klopp and tends to pick up his injuries on international duty.

Klopp explained: "There are a few little things from last game which doesn't make it easier. There is a little muscle problem with Joel Matip, a little thing with Lucas Leiva. There is still a problem with Klavan, there was a very, very small medial ligament [problem], very small, but it could mean there is not enough time for Palace."

"We have to find a solution for the weekend, today I don't have to find one for next year. It's not 100% Lucas can't play, it's not 100% Joel can't play, it's not 100% Ragnar can't play, but they are not in training at the moment. So that is not too cool. Joe Gomez did well on Monday, for the Under-23s, and made big steps in the last few weeks so maybe now we have to try this pair [Gomez and Lovren]. We will see, I don't know in this moment."

This is a worry going forward as a team, too many players are picking up minor knocks and missing games. It seems to be the same group of players as well, it's no wonder we struggle defensively and lack fluidity at times.

I'd argue that it's par for the course getting more injuries in a season if you want to play a high octane, pressing game.

More sprints will generally mean more injuries. I'd put money on us being high up the table in terms of number of sprints per game.

The key is having a squad size to cope with the inevitable injuries.

why even say that as a joke, that guy is an absolute prick, and to even give him any credence, even in jest, I dunno...

The team has had far less muscle injury issues this season, after getting a proper pre-season, so I'd say the opposite is true of what that bellend has to say.  It's a lack of squad size that is killing them I'd say.

Anyway, this is what Matip himself says about the chances of him playing:

"“I’m hoping, but as the coach said I’m still struggling to be available for Sunday. I’m still fighting to get back,” Matip told Liverpoolfc.com.

“It’s a muscle problem, a muscle issue. But I will do my best to be available for the coach and for the team.

“During the game [against West Brom] I felt this and I had a few problems, but I could continue the game and that was the main thing on this day.”"

If Lucas is out then probably means Sturridge comes in for Lucas, with Coutinho put back into midfield? Playing Woodburn and Gomez would be a massive risk against an on form and very physical side.

Gomez has been gash since he has returned from injury. I'd rather see Can there but then who the fuck do we play in midfield.

We are struggling to cover Lucas in midfield without a massive shift in formation. If we moved Can as well then we would be in deep trouble.

I think I'd rather see Grujic or Stewart in midfield than Gomez in defence at this stage.

Matip will surely be available to play though.

Although not played really anything at all Grujic (if fit) would be fine i think, he's experienced enough and could easily get 70 mins out of him

He would be playing against a very physical Palace side. I think he will struggle if he is selected.
