2017 in Music
« on: December 20, 2016, 09:45:12 pm »
Hi guys and girls,

Lets start the thread for next year with recommendations and hopes.

I am really interested to hear the new Matthew E White album that is a collaboration with Flo Morrisey of covers songs.

Documentary here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6Fdv05wPSA

Links to the three tracks on same page too.

Ryan Adams has a new album out earlyish (leaks out there I think), Grandaddy are back as well as Hurray For The Riff Raff).

I already have 9 gigs brooked (Band Of Horses, Hamilton Leithauser x 2, Julia Jacklin, Grandaddy, Cass Mccombs, Big Thief, Hurray For The Riff Raff) so an obvious reason why I am skint.

No, jazz. You fear jazz. You fear the lack of rules, the lack of boundaries. Oh look, it's a fence. But, no, it's soft.

Temples will have their 2nd album out. Here's a track from it. Sun Structures was great, so looking forward to this.

Looking forward to Ryan's new one. Grails' new album the same day, so Feb should be a nice month.

Really looking forward to Dropkick Murphys new one, including their, in my opinion, great version of YNWA.

Also looking forward to Ryans new one as well.

Haven't planned for too many concerts yet, though. Seeing Radiohead for the first time in June, think that'll probably be the peak of my year.

Excited for Bonobo and The XX new ones both in Jan, although I'm not massive on Bonobo's single, a bit bland:

Unless there's a new Janelle Monae album, I'm most looking forward to the next Japandroids LP, even if most of the songs didn't seem too impressive live and the new single sounds like Northern Uproar. Holy Ghost! should hopefully have a new one out soon too, and I'm curious to hear what the new Lorde album sounds like.

Third Run the Jewels album coming in January. Am looking forward to that in anticipation of their delight at the prospect of four years of Trumpism. They love that shit.

New Sun Kil Moon album in February possibly? The man's a dick but I love his music.

New Granddaddy album at some stage.

Potentially a new Jason Isbell album by the end of the year. He may be my favourite current songwriter.

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

New Granddaddy album at some stage.

Looking forward to this. The first two tracks that have been shared so far sounded vintage Grandaddy.

Just pre-ordered Sleaford Mods' 'English Tapas'. Deluxe edition comes with rizlas and a beer mat. Also pre-ordered Pissed Jeans and Grails' new ones. Good year ahead it seems.

Pissed Jeans, Sleaford Mods, RTJ - I think there's been murmurings that a punk uprising is on the cards. This could well soundtrack all of that!

Hope your big move went well!

Great news. I've been listening to the KLF on a regular basis recently, superb stuff. It was that Daniel Lanois LP full of pedal steel that sent me back to Chill Out...recently.

Not liking any of these new XX tracks. Just so middle of the road like music for the school run totally devoid of the intimacy and chemistry of the first album. Might as well cast that off as a different band now. Or maybe I'm being a bit harsh I've not heard the whole thing yet. Not holding out much hope though.

There's still so much from last year to keep me occupied in these early months I think I'll just ease myself into 2017.

Yeah, it's a real shame. That first album was something pretty special. On the plus side, I recently discovered a mashup of that album and various Notorious BIG vocal tracks called the Notorious XX. It's sick, if you're into that kind of thing.

There's a 24 hour long celebration of Dutch underground music on today at the Paradiso. Ridiculous amount of decent bands on. Obviously I will miss loads of stuff I do like but there's a window from about 8 this evening to about 2 in the morning with some boss stuff on. The Ex are on around 11. Anyone around Amsterdam should get down today (it's only about 10 euros I think).
