Christ alive, I posted about the return of this show in this thread and managed to forget to actually watch it!

Started re-watching it from the first season on Netflix. It'll take a lot to beat that first season - christ alive, that was good telly, that.

Yeah I watched last night, it aired on RTE2 in Ireland on Friday I think.

Enjoyable, but a touch confusing (I haven't watched series 6 recently).
I thought it was a bit confusing and I only finished S6 two weeks ago.

Much prefer it when the story is on foreign soil.

Finally watched the first episode. They really like to start the season slowly and confusingly don't they? Only finished season 6 about 2 weeks ago, but I there were a lot of things that I couldn't follow in the episode.

But, it's Homeland so still brilliant.

It really does. Google'd him to see where he's from - makes sense that he's from London and that he's putting that accent on.

Spoiler
I was a bit confused what happened with O'Keefe - were the local cops protecting him? And the copper said something about someone being on their way - was that the CIA and they'd figured out where he was?

She played it perfectly. That was basically her only chance of getting everything back without ending up in prison.

I don't think we've seen the last of the hacker though, otherwise that whole segment was meaningless.

Yeah I agree, the posting of the image was stupid. Would that virus thing even be possible?

Probably stretched a bit, but there are viruses, or 'ransomware' things like that that do exist and can encrypt your files, lock your PC and control your camera.

What isn't plausible is that a highly trained CIA agent would be stupid enough to click on a random file, download it, then open it, not knowing about potential security threats to her computer data. You'd think she would back up everything on her hard drive first, wipe it, then try doing what she was doing. I suppose a TV show has to happen, though.

Better second episode but I don't really like the direction this show has taken - since the brilliant first season it's generally worked better on foreign soil, and with one major arc per season. I just don't find O'Keefe or Keane interesting enough characters to warrant two seasons.

It's also missing Quinn big time.

It was completely implausible - a CIA agent would never be caught out like that. I do find the show forgets these little details sometimes, especially in these latter seasons.

I've started watching Homeland from season 1 again - currently on season 4, in Pakistan. I don't remember hating Carrie as much the first time round watching it - christ she's unbearable!

An agent in the midst of a bipolar episode could be that fucking stupid. In the next episode she explicitly commented on her risk perception not being what it should.

I suppose that's one way of getting around it, but it's a bit of a lazy one. The writers of this show seem to be using Carrie's "illness" as a bit of a McGuffin or plot device when they run out of ideas. It's like a crutch they've been leaning on in almost every season of Homeland I can remember. It's still entertaining, though.

They have taken some huge liberties with credibility, but that was not one of them.

Does anyone else think they were screwed by Trump? They set up a female incoming president, anticipating Hillary, only to recon a dictator storyline as Trump emerged. It feels like they were headed elsewhere until Putin intervened.

That was undoubtedly their original plan.

Not for me - things like this would have been second nature to her. I think he bipolar disorder affected her in the advanced, onlooking aspects of her job - what basically elevates her above other agents in the CIA.

Re: Trump, didn't one of the producers come out and explain this, that during production, when things went Trump's way, they had to drastically change the outcome of the season?

By the way, this is an interesting read for all fellow Homeland fans: http://ew.com/tv/2017/12/20/homeland-trump-season-7/

Agreed. Homeland seasons always start slow and never seem to capture interest. I've just rewatched all the season again in the past few months and they do it every season (bar the first).

Sunday's episode was better but again, things are moving slowly and there were a couple of moments which made me think the plot was more important than credibility (in terms of how the FBI/Presidency acted).

Anyone else actually quite disappointed with the new season thus far? They always start slow, but this one just hasn't picked up any pace or any interest really.

Homeland use to have the audience on string, but this season the string just isn't making me want to chase it!

Yeah I know the one you mean. I really don't think they know where they're going this season - they've got a topic in mind and have written a season based on current events, ie Fake News, Russia, data hacking etc.

It's always been edge of your seat, 'oh shit, what's Carrie up to now', everything moving so fast kind of television, interlaced with real smart breathers with pin sharp writing in between, but I've been more interested in my Word with Friends whilst watching this season as it's becoming a bit formulaic and whilst Carrie's always been a twat that we've had sympathy for or at least cheered for, this season she's a twat who I have no sympathy for.

Yeah just watched the latest episode and it's finally starting to crank up a gear. But it really shouldn't have taken 8 episodes to get where we are. It's been the worst season so far by a long way, and just hoping these last few episodes will blow our minds, like they used to.
