Did Grujic get injured AGAIN?

He played 60 mins plus on Monday night, so maybe a little early to start again two days later.  .

Missed it while getting a drink.  Don't like this one camera-no replay coverage.  Anyway Toni Gomes scores from another Dhanda assist

Another from Toni Gomes, scoring from less than a yard into an open goal.  Even I could have scored than one!  Nice chip in from Sam Hart

Fun fact: 'Dhanda' in urdu or hindi means 'stick.' Specifically, it can often refer to a 'punishment rod.'

Reckon 'The Punishment Rod' has a nice ring for a nick name? Maybe 'Roddy' for short.  ;D

Just watched some brief highlights of the senior cup game, great to see virtually our u23s "B" team doing a great job to put us in the final.

On a side note, with all the will we, won't we get into the CL talk in other threads and how many of the lads will feature with the 1st team next season,  personally I can't wait to see them playing in the UEFA youth trophy.

He'll have a lot of good talent to work with assuming we don't push through loads in to the u23s. Plenty u16s have got game time this year.

There may be some who are a bit nervous about the emphasis on physicality and the way he talks about skill, but I think he's right. If you're not a physical player you're not getting into a Klopp team are you?

You think about our attack and how they were playing earlier in the season. Mane, Lallana, Firmino, Coutinho. These guys are all really skillful but will keep running and competing for the ball. I think that's what he means. Mane is the exact opposite of a showboating player. If Ojo could put himself about the way Mane does he'd be something incredible.

Just wanted to preemptively get that in there before a Fromola.  ;D

He's also got to teach/coach them tactics, not just being able to cope physically. The 4 you mentioned all know how to press but it's not just about running, it's knowing triggers, movement of the runs, closing of space behind you, etc.

Not really fussed by some phrase he'll have said in an interview though, we'll get to see next year what he's actually coaching them.

Yeah, he means 100% commitment over unnecessary showboating. He's hardly saying he won't want his teams to be technical and clever.

Love Stevie's attitude. The flicks and tricks are great and he won't stamp it out of the team but it has to come after they have won all the 50/50s and are dominating the game. It should never be used in the hopes of catching a scout's eye.

I'll come out and say that I'm not a fan at all of what Stevie has said here. It's a strawman argument really about how it's all "tricks and flicks" among the youth, making these young players sound like potential street buskers and not footballers. There's an obvious need for physicality in football, but to just talk about a bit of skill with the kind of disdain some people talk about it is concerning. I've never heard a latin American person say anywhere near the stuff British coaches broadly come up with. And needless to say, they play with physicality and with an attitude where winning is everything. But somehow, they seem to be able to do it without the need to put down players as showboaters.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

I confess I was one who was a bit worried when I saw the Gerrard coaching headlines about wanting his teams to be tough and cut out the skill, but when I read the interview it is somewhat different.  As someone else said, its about competing in a game at the same time.  LFC players do it when pressing.  I don't think it means the light framed skilful kids are going to look to go elsewhere because Gerrard doesn't want them.   I don't think those who have been mentoring him and will continue to employ him will let him change LFC style of development too much.

The point isn't that he doesn't want 'light-framed skilful kids'. He is fine with them, as long as they have fight and are willing to take pain and discomfort and give everything to win. On Sky Sports (I think?) he spoke recently about how he would personally feel the burn in his lungs after sprinting across the pitch to make a last-ditch tackle or whatever, and that academy players who want to make it, need to be willing to go through that for 90 mins.

Nothing wrong with that in my eyes.

Because he was on the bench last week, been training with the first team this week and it starts in a few days. Think we could easily decide to keep him here just in case.

We've also already told England that Alexander-Arnold won't be going with the u19s in the summer so there's doubts about how much we value these tournaments.

Reckon it depends on how much we trust Lallana's fitness

Or maybe he goes and just give whatever bench spots he'd otherwise have to Wilson or someone. Hope we're not strong-arming our players into turning down the chance to play these international tournaments, especially ones that are played during the off-season.
