Depends, if we drew 3-3 away and 1-1 at home, they could score 1 and we'd only need to score 1... unless they scored from outside the box, which counts as 2 in extra-time  (3 if you do it backwards).

Not forgetting that an header is 3 as well

Very good question actually. I think they count after extra time. Strange but I think thats correct if anyone wants to confirm...

That's right.  And I've always found that rule to be a bit unfair actually.

like when we played Atleti a couple fo years ago.  1-0 at theirs after 90 mins, 1-0 at ours after 90 mins.  Tied.  But then 30 minutes is played where ONE team has the benefit of away goals.

Imo, it should go straight to pennos in this situation (in europe) and use away goals as double after 180 mins (in the Carling Cup).

PS  If United had made it 2-2 tonight, it would have been pens.  But it should really have been Palace through on away goals AET.

2 different rules in the same comp.

Then yes, they'd score one, we'd have to score two. (or one from outside the box :P)

Heard the draw, had nothing but a feeling of confidence. I think we want it more than them. We've played every tie away so far and kept coming through. This time we've got a couple of games to beat them over and I very much believe we can do it. Then get ourselves a trophy in the final!

At least we are guaranteed a home game, about fcuking time... Though City will have a home game too... ;)

If we met City now, we'd beat them but January is many moons away.

Hehe. I saw this thread title before I realised the Mancs had been knocked out and was sickened. Draw doesn't feel so bad now. Might have been nice to have an easier path to a final. But two games against City should be good fun.

Yeah, this would have been annoying if United had gone through as well, meaning we would have had to face both City and United, with one of them getting an easier match.
Consdiering United lost the easier match that they were given in this past round (wasn't that nice of them), we would likely be facing City at some point or another if we go all the way through, so, not all that much difference doing it in this round as opposed to the final.

But there's no need to think we can't beat their first team or any team they put out. Sunday showed that.

Lets do these wannabes.

We'll want it more. A cup's a cup, but they'll have their eye on the other 3 (whether they are in Europa or Champions League). We ain't in Europe, the whole league knows that and rub it in at any opportunity, but this is our 2 leg game this season, the two leg games we have lived and existed for since 2004. And the fixture is finishing at Anfield- Kenny and the boys will have em' shitting themselves. Let's get a decent result at City and then let them travel to Anfield and fuck them up.

I won't have a ticket, but I now live a 10 minute train journey from Wembley. I want to get down there and revel in another final and we can do it, we can do it.

After the last few games against Arsenal, United, Chelsea, City, Chelsea we should fear no-one.

THE REDS ARE COMING UP THE HILL BOYS.

The draw could've been kinder but it's more than likely we'd have met them in the final if we avoided them and having a crack at them at Anfield under the lights, knowing what we have to do could definitely work in our favour.

Will be difficult, no doubt but playing at the new Wembley for the first time will be a massive incentive. If we keep it tight at their place then we'll be fine.

For once we are definitely the OVER-Dogs this time. Bring it on. They are as scared of us as any one I know of. For a change others have to think of how to stop the LFC machine.

I hope Lucas will be available to pick pocket them for 90 odd minutes.

I'd rather play them on a 2 leged tie than a one off final. Its gonna be a tough couple of matches but hey, I think if you are looking to win trophies over the next Decade you will need to beat this lot. I can possibly see this game being replayed for quite a few seasons now.

Ah well, not the draw most of us wanted, but let's not forget...They didn't want us! They'd have preferred Cardiff or Palace! This is a tough draw for them too.

It'll be difficult to reach the final, but just remember we overcame Chelsea over two legs in 2005 when they were thirty odd points above us in the league. At this football club anything anything is possible! COME ON RED MEN!

spot on fuck them. should have beat them sunday and they know it. anfield will  be rocking.
