Liverpool v Leeds - 29 November 2016 19:45
« on: November 25, 2016, 05:52:30 pm »
The following message is brought to you by Le Jake, who due to his own lack of faith that anyone had heard of his hometown, Wakefield, put Leeds in his bio, and is now paying the price

In what is Liverpool's only chance of silverware this season, they come up against Leeds United in the Worthington Cup Quarter Final.

It's been a terrible season so far by Liverpool, failing to beat the likes of Burnley, Southampton and Tottenham in the League, whilst high flying Leeds United have stuffed some giants of the game such as Barnsley and Burton Albion.

Leeds have 26 points at this stage of the season, Liverpool 27, so it's head to head. Although Leeds are in the division below. Last time these two clubs met it was a lucky 1-0 to the underdogs Liverpool, but can they pull out another upset?

Liverpool are likely to play the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi, with stalwarts Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard out through media duties and retirement respectively, whilst Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has never beaten Leeds United in his career!

Leeds, on the other hand, can expect to call up on Souleymane Doukara and the impressively named Ronaldo Vieira, he must be good. It is widely rumoured that Leeds fan-favourite owner Massive Cello will be in attendance, but depending on how the fare in the Yorkshire derby vs Rotherham, he may be at work on Tuesday putting in some overtime to spend on more players.

Likely line-ups:
Liverpool: Mignolet, Trent AA, Klavan, Lucas, Moreno, Can, Henderson, Wij, Ejaria, Origi, Sturridge
Leeds: Who the fuck cares it's not 2002.

Prediction? 4-1 Liverpool ;D

Ha, great OP.  Always good seeing a few youth and fringe players getting a chance to shine in the cup games, hoping Woodburn gets his first start.

Don't think we'll see Sturridge at all, which means its show time for Origi. Woodburn would possibly be our only feasible backup if we are resting Firminho.

Could Grujic not get a game?

Love it.

Wakefield eh? You have my sympathies.

Looking like Sturridge might not be fit, so could be Origi alone. Hope Firmino is fit.

Last two times we had a good Team 2008/2009 and 2013/2014 we finished empty handed.

I hope we win something in this season. We have a few players missing starting lineup will be interesting.

Six league games in December and a seventh at Sunderland on the 2nd of Jan.

It would be madness not to rest as many players as we possibly can here. I'm thinking every player we'd be looking to start at Bournemouth, except Origi due to injuries, and either Wijnaldum or Can if Lallana is likely to come back in for one of them.

I hate League Cup quarters. I fancy us to do anyone in a two-legged semi and a final can often go either way.

Although one half of me thinks this is a potential banana skin, I have a sneaking suspicion an Origi hatrick will see us through.

Predict wholesale changes but honestly don't see this like the spurs game. That was more like a friendly for long periods, we might have the more talented lads but need to play with that competitive edge tomorrow. Win the 50/50's and that side of the battle first.

My team would be...

                Mignolet
TAA    Lucas    Klavan   Moreno

                       Stewart
          Grujic                 Ejaria

Wilson                               Woodburn
                        Origi

Hoping to see some changes for this, busy December and key players are already injured. Give the likes of Matip, Hendo, Mane and the full backs the night off. Play as if we want it more than them and we win no matter what team we put out.

No Bobby, Phil, Sturridge or Lallana.

Would play Mane, Lovren, Can, Henderson and Origi

They aren't rubbish so need to field a decent side

Tricky to predict the line up. Until Spurs we had gone pretty strong in the League Cup.  Rested a fair few there but think we knew they'd be doing the same.

Leeds are on a good run of form and will presumably be reet up for eet tomorrow. Injuries are beginning to kick in for us so have the tricky balance of not selling ourselves short but not over doing the workload for some.

Surely Origi starts. Moreno and Tent AA at full back.  Klavan and Lucas.  Not sure about midfield, wouldn't be one of our current regular three to play but we have plenty of young options there too.

It's up top we need to be careful.  Only play Sturridge if he's ok. Ideally rest Firmino and Mané but I think at least one will start with the other on the bench.

Let's take it seriously and get the job done, love having a semi to look forward to in the New Year.

don't want Mane to start - but we may have no options. He looked a bit off the pace against sunderland - then again not necessarily a game where his pace can be used (except at the end)

I like the personnel but not so much the formation and positions. I'd prefer if we stuck with a 4-3-3 and went with Ejaria, Stewart & Grujic in a midfield 3 and an attack of Mane, Origi & Woodburn.
