Both teams are a bit sluggish, but I think we'll get the first goal and that will wake us up a bit. If it wasn't for van Dijk, I think we would already be winning by a goal or two.

Just lacking that killer touch upfront DS needs to be brought on early second half to give more movement up front.

Sooo van Dijk next on our Southampton shopping list then? 8)

Not quite at our best but we've been ok.. still by far the better team, naturally.

Please win.

Bus parking c*nts

It's not up to clubs to make it easy for us. We have to find a way of playing through these type of tactics. It will happen more and more, we need to be more clinical.

I would to see Clyne get on the ball more. He getting into good areas but Mane isn't passing to him at all.

If we keep playing the way we have the goals will come.

Not quite with it.

That run by Can near the end missed by Clyne. Balls played though to Bobby too late.

Fucking hell though that lad Van Dijk is a rock.

Mind you, so's Matip ... coolness personified.

Sturridge needed here.

Have to hope Saints drop off a bit in the second half as they're very well organsied

Seems to be too making "trying to make sure" moments today instead of working off of instinct. Mane's chance being the best example, should have taken it earlier.

Van Dijk should be next one we should be getting from Saints.

That said, Mane has been quite lethargic, should have scored.

I reckon the Kloppleganger is going to earn his wedge in this second half, having prepared them for this after the long back and forth to Brazil. Keep those hamstrings and groins loose, Austin.

Very pleased - we've done very well against a Southampton team that have had a good half and are very organised.

If we keep that up, then we have a chance.

Firmino has been good, Coutinho rather less visible but he's been far from the worst of the bunch.

We've had the control in midfield so far, theirs has looked pretty light weight and posed no trouble.
Hendo playing very well for us and if it goes like this in the 2nd i think we'll penetrate their defence a few times,Van Dijk has been excellent for them there.

If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

We definitely miss Lallana and his movement. I doubt Coutinho can last 90 mins so I'd bring on Origi and use his pace and strength. Then if we need a goal in the last 25 mins or so I'd bring on Sturridge. Can needs to step it up a gear too.

Southampton are decent and at home. Pretty surprising to see them take a Burnley-eske approach.

Hopefully unlike that game we'll make better decisions in the final third and get the goals we need.

Look all right so far. Lost a bit of rhythm from the international break. Southampton has been resolute in defense, but I still think we've got a goal in us.
