42 - When Southampton counter it ends up being Charlie Austin completely isolated waiting for men to arrive who are too slow. They have 10 men behind the ball at all times. Clearly a lot of respect for our attack.

Not really. We've played well, Southampton have defended very well. I do think that miss Lallana's incisiveness - Can more than a shade off the pace

Mane's going to want to up his game in the second half for me, disappointing in front of goal and some questionable decision-making. Looks off the pace.

We're at half time now and no real scares so far for us.

45' - Southampton arrived with a plan which they've executed well. They've also benefited from an excellent save and really good defending from Van Dijk who has raised his game immensely.

Will they be able to maintain it in the face of a ruthlessly patient Liverpool who have some scary subs to turn to.

That penalty would have been as soft as anything in that it was 'nothing more' than a 'shirt pull' - that said. a foul is a foul

48' - ooooh, excellent work there, little backheel from Firmino through to Can who feeds it to Mane but the GK fields it comfortably

and second later Firmino with a great pass across to Coutinho but he's well tackled.

That's two near misses now (three with the pen shout)

Saint's break down the right, lovely cross that lands on Austin's head, but Clyne puts him off and he heads wide.

Clattenburg finally remembers that he's brought his cards to the game and pulls one out. Cue Southampton fans singing that timeless terrace classic "the referee's a wanker".

Clattenburg has had a very good game I think and got most of the decisions correct, despite not dishing out a few bookings where he really ought to have done.

Ugh, the chance I described above, we had just carved them open twice before that, and Coutinho did it again with a perfect weighted ball but Firmino couldn't convert.

Now Can with great run down the left, holds the ball and forces a corner. Kicked too deep and Lovren can't do anything with it
