Interesting from Jurgen...

“I've heard that people have been talking about (Ragnar) Klavan as our fourth option (at centre-back). Wait and see him play and then tell me again that he should wait until all the others are injured or something."

Is it looking like he's gonna start for us tonight? I bet he's really looking forward to his debut in a Liverpool shirt, even if it's pre-season.

I liked what I saw tonight. Very assured performance. Surprised at how composed he is on the ball. Enjoyed his couple of unexpected forays forward when no good passes were on. Competition is going to be good for the CB spots this season.

Reminds me of an old skrtel.

He looks a lot more comfortable on the ball than Skrtel did. The way he cut out that cross though, yeah that was very Skrtel like.

The only thing that came to my mind watching him is that he's really solid. To be honest, I can see him as a starter here, even ahead of the likes of Lovren and Sakho.

You should see his compilation against liverpool in EL. Looking at that he reminded me of Agger on the ball but less elegant. He is very composed on ball. We do have good set of CB in him, Matip, Lovren and Sakho.

To be fair Chelsea didn't really attack but Klavan also had no support from Ejaria, Grujic and Stewart and he's having to play next to moreno as well so with all that taken into consideration he did very well

With the way how good he was on the ball , does anyone think he could be a decent backup option at DM for Can as well ?

Not even close mate. He's good with the ball, but he's not that good.

No need for that. Matip has played more than 20% of his games at Schalke as a defensive midfielder.

Though just as a thought, would like to see him at LB sometime this preseason. After seeing him in this game, I think he may be able to do it.

Not really. Big difference between being comfortable with the game ahead of you vs constantly having to play on the half turn and deal with opponents pressing you from different angles.

Not a chance that happens if Moreno is fit. Klopp obviously likes him even if we don't.

Old Skrtel used to be good

He was massively complemented with the partners he had, Carragher and Agger, both a level above what Skrtel was defensively and Aggers passing was much better.

Skrtel, I think, has found his level in Turkey.

I like Klavan, he looked so assured. The triggers, to step in, to step back. Heading, reading of the game, passing, and most importantly the knowledge to know when to foul.

He looked very tidy although I don't think he'll appear at LB. He was somewhat perplexed when asked about that in a recent interview saying that he had a few goes there in his early years but doubted if he would play there again.

Think his time being up here was more to do with how he got along with or actually didnt with Mignolet. He was never the best or classiest CB, but he certainly better than his time in front of Migs for me.

Yeah he last played left back about 4 years ago in the Netherlands for AZ. I highly doubt he'll ever be played as a LB considering the pace of PL.
One day, people will hopefully look back and say "I was there son. I was there the year that Spurs won nothing again."

Congrats on the debut.

If he can get good game time in the preseason and start the season he will have the jump on his CB competition and possibly establish his credentials ahead of the other CBs if he can get a few confidence boosting performances in

He suits the PL.
