He looks like a 'keeper to me.

So did Mignolet, alas, he kept flapping with our emotions and making our hearts drop.

What's with all the tattoos though?  As my nanna would say "You ruin a beautiful face with those silly drawings on your arms" and I have to agree with her.

Anyone have any idea if the boss wants Loris as our no.1 (yes yes I know he is squad no.1 but you know what I mean!)

Posted this in transfer section. Will post here as well anyway . For what it's worth I asked a German fan in another forum who's usually pretty knowledgeable about Goalkeepers about what he makes of Karius

Quote
Loris Karius is just 22, and he's been Mainz' Nr.1 since 2013. This season he was considered one of the top keepers in the Bundesliga, performance-wise.

He will probably have no big problems to adjust to English football as he belonged to ManCity's youth teams from 2009 to 2012 from where he went to Mainz. (A bit similar to Ron-Robert Zieler who was educated at ManUtd's academy, but went to Hannover from there due to lack of chances to impress.)

From what I understand he doesn't qualify as homegrown in English terms, though.

When asked about coming for crosses and in set pieces :
Quote
Well, I can't remember that he has real weaknesses there. His main weakness is probably his passing, but when it comes to reflexes and 1vs1 situations, he is really good.

And the last two seasons, he held 6 of 12 penalties that were shot against him. I think I remember that in the Mainz forum there was a saying "Chuck Loris saves penalties even in the dark"

.

Yes he will be out #1 keeper eventually. He's nearly played 100 games for his club at his young age and qualified for Europe this season. No way is he comnig here to sit on the bench.

Shit tats but better hair and squad number than Migs.

Hope he's a decent keeper as well, I guess.
One day, people will hopefully look back and say "I was there son. I was there the year that Spurs won nothing again."

Welcome!

I haven't seen him play before, but based on the fact that we moved for him the second the season was over (if not sooner), it's fair to say he's our first choice signing for this position - which is enough for me.

Very highly rated, great fee and potential to improve even more. Nothing not to like there.

And with Matip already signed, that's 2 positions in the XI we have addressed. Good work so far, but quite a bit more to do yet.

He's good and will get better. Depending on how you view it, this season just gone he's probably the second or third best keeper in the Bundesliga. And Germany have a conveyor belt of talent at that position.

Delighted with this signing, we needed a new goalkeeper and I think Klopp has picked an excellent one in Karius.  Looking forward to seeing him play and I've no doubt he's going to be our first choice in goal, he'll be a bargain for the price we've paid.

Jesus , I made the mistake of tuning into the Wembley press conference today for the Barca friendly , thinking it might be Karius being unveiled too.

It wasn't , it was that American acquaintance of Fergie who wanted to create a Euro League announcing the friendly.

Gary Mac was there representing us and they got asked two questions and that was it apart from a lot of embarrassing , awkward silence.

Am I the only one who is a bit unhappy at all the digs at Migs in this thread?  Sure he has not had the best of seasons but to be honest he has not had any challenge for his position and when that happens standards tend to drop.

I watch the German Football highlights every Monday and since Klopp took over there was a good chance we'd get a new keeper from the Bundesliga.   Timo Horn and Karius were both pretty useful and I am delighted that we have signed one of them. They were voted fourth and third respectively in the best keeper category in that league.

Whether he is ahead of Mignolet in Jurgen's thinking remains to be seen but I expect them both to be challenging for the position regularly which can only improve the standard of each of them.

That goalkeeping shirt really is wretched. Karius is about the only goalie on Earth who'll look decent in it. Got big hopes for Karius after reading about him, I think he'll be a good 'un.

Doesn't seem that bad, just a plain colour rather than some idiotic pattern, in any case s long as it finds it's way between our goals and opposing shots who cares.
