Ain't silverware nice?
« on: February 26, 2012, 09:04:40 pm »

This is a trophy.

A trophy is a piece of silverware handed out to the victorious team.

Some trophies are handed out to the team who has been most successful over the course of a league season. Other trophies are handed out to the team who successfully negotiated their way through a knock-out competition. Some trophies, won on foreign shores, are won because a team were at the top of a league format and then successfully negotiated their way through a knock-out competition.

Trophies are the physical reward to the team who wins.

This is Liverpool Football Club.

It was once said that Liverpool football club existed to win trophies.

Liverpool football club have won more major trophies than any other team in England.

Some were won in leagues, others were won in cups. Some trophies were won on the back of dazzling displays of ability and flair, others were won on steel and determination. Some may say some trophies were won due to luck. Others may say that certain trophies were won due to fate. All were won. Whether Liverpool Football Club broke goal-scoring records or whether they thanked ‘Ghost Goals’; they won trophies.

Trophies are for winners.

Recently – despite being the best at it in their country – Liverpool have not won many trophies.

An entire era has passed barren as the club went without trophies. Without silverware. Owners, managers and all manner of false idols have passed through Liverpool Football Club without winning a trophy.

Today Liverpool Football Club won another trophy.

The How's will not matter when history looks back at a trophy-winning machine ending an unnaturally long period without silverware.

Winning is what matters.

History will only remember this day as the day a huge arsed deep fried battered Mars Bar muncher from Glasgow got his teamsheet, tactics and formation badly wrong, while his fat ginger son hit a penalty so high, NASA had to send a space probe up after it. And that's all.

Well said,

silverwere is quite nice, it is silver, looks nice, it is shiny, winners get it after hard work and determination, and holds a fair amount of champagne and beer.
I watched a YouTube video and decided that Paul Konchesky looked like a player.

I honestly hadn't even thought about them. Or anyone else really.

Besides, they won their cup final today anyways ;)

Trophies are nice, but they don't count for much when you've just cut off one of your own bollocks in protest because you're so very upset.
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

I think just winning one of them is a huge Bale off a lot of players' backs.

You know we're the most successful cup team in England this century now don't you? We're on 7 compared to Chelsea's meagre 6. And Arsene Wenger's unopened Brasso is so far out of date, Al Qaeda would be able to use it in a dirty bomb.

Fuck me, just look at the shots, 39 to 11, 19 vs 7 on target and corners, 19 vs 3 and that tells you all you need to know.  Well done Cardiff, oh plucky Cardiff. But the trophy ended up in the right place.

I'll remember this day for a long, long time. A lot longer than if we get 4th.

To those who said they'd take 4th over a trophy, just remember how you felt when Anthony Gerrard missed his pen.

You always get the one don't you, we dominated the game, we scored twice and we won the game, even had it not gone to penalties we would have been the favorites to win based on the dominance, the Cardiff players were wrecked after 100 mins, did I say we won? I know your on your period but that doesn't mean the rest of us have to listen to your whinging.

Back in Europe one way or another so it's a good thing, and a great moral booster for the squad, now lets have that FA cup and get 4th place to play with the big boys again <<<< this is my perfect end to the season, would be able to attract another big name striker based on this which is what I think we are lacking.

It's not enough. I want more. Next stop, FA Cup, followed by the league and then followed by the daddy of all trophies, the European Cup.

Before today, I wanted just one trophy. Now that we have won it, I want it all.
