These are the 1 percenters that turn a good team into a great team. Love it!

Absolutely! Little adjustments like this that aren't seen on the day to day side of things can make such a difference. Coupled with bringing on Bayern's fitness coach, Jurgen and his coaching team will be able to get the best out of the players for his high tempo style.

Death by gegenpressing for teams next season  ;D

I bet she knows what Gotzes favourite treats are.  That could come in handy for some reason.

You would be surprised how much right you could be.
The biggest problem anywhere in the world is that people's perceptions of reality are filtered through the screening mesh of what they want, and do not want, to be true.

Not be a downer or anything but why would Bayern be willing to let these two go if they were so important?

I could understand if we were poaching them from Dortmund or if Klopp had previously worked with them.
How do contracts even work for this sort of backroom staff? Maybe she only has to give 30 days (or whatever) notice and there's nothing they can do about it?

Good to see the right improvements being made throughout the club, it always felt a bit like in the last few years we've had a fairly average staff with lots of them coming in from mid-table teams or worse. Ideally of course the manager wouldn't need to make these changes as the club would keep itself to the highest standard, but when you have someone like Klopp around it makes sense to have him calling the shots.

So you cant be good at a mid table club? how do players and staff get transfers to a higher level?

I have my doubts too. I mean Mona Nemmer is unproven in England, it's going to take her time to adapt to our ingredients over here so she'll need a good pre-season.

I think the lack of a winter break is going to really take her by surprise. Can she cope with the hectic Christmas schedule?

Also worth noting that the standard of the linesmen in the Premier League is poor, so that will be something she MUST factor in to her plans.

Hopefully she's great. As she's coming from an elite club such as Bayern you'd imagine she's well qualified and will improve us.

Beyond that I care very little for behind the scenes appointments. I know they are probably more important than we give them credit for, but beyond a "Oh, that sounds good, nice one" hard to get very excited.

Team hotel. Portland. Second floor. The aroma of pasta, steak and vegetables. Out of the lift, turn right and there are the players in the middle of the dining room - alongside Mona Nemmer, the FC Bayern nutritionist. The 29-year-old has been part of the support team for nearly twelve months and the future promises even closer co-operation, because one thing is crystal clear for FCB and Pep Guardiola: The right diet is the third crucial factor for success along with training and recovery.

FC Bayern are already well placed with the star chef Alfons Schuhbeck and his team on board. Nemmer, who previously worked with Germany youth teams for many years, has now joined the team. “My area of work at Säbener Strasse is more scientific and I really get involved when we’re on the road,” explained Nemmer in an interview with fcbayern.de.

That is certainly true here in Portland with the qualified nutritionist working with the local hotel chef in preparing the food and drink for the FCB squad. “There are four meals a day. There’s a lot to do,” said Nemmer. She really enjoys working with the first team: “This job is incredibly varied. It’s fantastically exciting.”

Pasta as 'life insurance'

It is not always easy to get top quality food on foreign trips. But Nemmer found the USA provides “outstanding options” in this respect. “We didn’t bring much with us. There’s a huge choice here.” The co-operation with the hotels in New York and Portland has worked out brilliantly. “When I arrived the hotel manager came to me and said: 'Here are the fridges. We’ve bought everything you asked for.' You can’t do better than that.”

The players all have individual food requirements. Pasta is the number one choice or “my little life insurance” according to Nemmer. Meat is always cut freshly in the dining room. “Not just for the type of event,” said Nemmer with a smile, “but rather to guarantee the quality levels.”

Nemmer has an important role to play during the time in the USA and that includes dealing with the effects of jet lag. The right diet helps. On the flight from Munich to New York the order of the day for the Bayern stars was: Drink lots of fluids! No matter whether it’s water, tea or juice. But no alcohol of course. And a lot less caffeine.

Battle against jet lag

Food with a lot of protein. “It’s easier to digest and keeps you awake. A pick-me-up,” said Nemmer. The return journey to Germany on Wednesday straight after the MLS All-Star game will be an even bigger challenge, as watches and clocks must be put forward by nine hours. “We’ve fiddled around a bit. We can’t prevent jet lag with the right diet but we can perhaps reduce the effects a bit.”

Nemmer always does her job with a passion. She says diet is not only a decisive factor in professional sport but it also “goes towards promoting your quality of life.” She’s off again now. Franck Ribéry and Co. are on the training ground but they will be very hungry in 90 minutes. There’s lots to do.

Being Mona.

"It was a peaceful yet tiring Saturday morning and Mona woke with a fierce realisation that today would be the day when she offered her most impressive work in the Pasta region to the players of the LFC. Mona was feeling tired after being startled in the middle of the night when she realised she may have a lack of condiments on today of all days." (Said in that dramatic deep American voice).

Cue dramatic music and knobhead birds in US of A spandex and pom poms.

Gotta love them fucking cunting yanks.

Can`t wait to see Mona whipping the crowd into a frenzy on the pitch at half time next season when she`s knocking out a hollandaise.

Have my doubts Bayern are as ‘livid’ as what's being reported for us poaching a couple of their sport science staff, Guardiola spent the season criticising them.

Anyway welcome on board and all that, I hear she can knock up a mean chicken teriyaki with extra green peppers.

This is likely going to start irritating Rummenigge, Beckenbauer and co.

The Bayern hierachy are small enough to make the Gotze deal a little bit tougher now.

Klopp might not be able to nick their players so he's nicking all their staff instead.  ;D

Okay, a question that I always had. What is the diet of professional football players? We Indians are not strong by stature and we are always in awe of the physiques of footballers and other sport stars from other countries. I personally heard a lot of rumors on their diet such as strict non-consumption of potatoes and alcohol. Even heard at one time that meat is not a regular choice. So if anybody here has a knowledge of what these guys consume, care to share?
I don't have a ton of information and am not a nutritionist, but a big part of it is pairing foods that aid each other in the absorption of vitamins, minerals, proteins. Certain vitamins need different types of fats together for the body to be able to process the highest percentage of the nutritional content, and if not present, can be lost in the digestive process. Obviously sugars, alcohol, caffeine are limited as much as humanly possible due to their deleterious effects. Fish is a big part of it, with helpful fatty acids and oils while being relatively protein rich as well as lean. Vegetables with high nutrition content are a given, and care is given in the cooking process to use techniques that will maintain as much of the nutritional content. Due to the high amounts of energy expenditure for footballers and need to replenish with quick turnaround, pasta is a big piece as a carbohydrate. Foods with lactose and high in acidic content are avoided because they are difficult to digest. Also remember that the physiques have a lot to do with the weight training regimens and top notch fitness facilities open to the players at all times.

We all expected Klopp to bring his own staff in, we've been linked with plenty of different fitness coaches and the like during his time here. This though is quite a coup when you think about it. I can't imagine Kornmayer and Nemmer work entirely alone either, so there will be plenty of new faces behind the scenes next summer.

None of this is necessarily a slight on Brendan's staff. When a new manager comes in 9 times out of 10 they bring their own people and when it's a manager from overseas they almost always bring in new faces. It's just how it works.
