Bale signed a new contract last year, Hazard did the year before, etc.. I just don't see what it changes? Except maybe ensuring that if he does decide to leave we'll get more money. Barrett's article does make it sound like, if there's a clause, it's pretty damn high though. Which is certainly better than having the worry about him getting down to 1 year left next year.
It shows that the club is doing everything within its power to try and keep our best players at the club. It shows we as a club are being positive and will help attract new players.

Despite signing NDA (non disclosure agreement) it wont be long before the size of the release clause starts to trickle out in the press. I'm hoping it is in excess of 80m.
Hopefully there is also an agreement (obviously non legally binding) that Suarez moves to a team overseas.

Not completely unrealistic with the timing that Suarez has also been told of incoming players in January to bolster squad.

I have a feeling that we will be getting some Uruguayans in January  ;D

Re: Release clauses. Fuck money, i don't want any amount of money. If you think selling Suarez for 100 million would be a good idea to "re-invest", take a look at Tottenham this season, and Arsenal last season after selling their best payer. He's under contract, fuck clauses, any offer that comes in should be greeted with "No thanks, we don't need money, we have an asset under contract, good luck, s'in abit"

We're in an absolutely phenomenal position not only to get top 4 but to challenge for the league, and i seriously mean that.

We could be top of the league Christmas day, with Tottenham, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Swansea, Newcastle, all to come to Anfield in the 2nd half of the season. If we make top 4 the question shouldn't be "oh, will Suarez decide to stay", it should be "Now we're in the CL, i wonder who we'll buy in our massive new CL shopping spree".

Heads up, this is fucking awesome news. Cardiff are in turmoil (Not happy about that one bit) and we'll hopefully smash them 5-0 tomorrow, we've just pinned down arguably the 2nd best player in the world to a massive contract, and we're 2nd in the league and could go top in the next week. Holy fucking shit, this is too good to be true. Stop moaning, and fucking try smiling.

Great news, whatever way you look at it.

If there's a release clause, I hope it's dependent on not qualifying for Champions League, because if we finish top 3/4 then we can't let him leave.

Great news, whatever way you look at it. Shows real intent by the board paying such high wages. Yes, it will more than likely have a release clause if the right money comes along and/or we don’t make CL next year. However, if we do make CL and he stays then Suarez has earnt every penny and he will help us push on for a real title challenge next year. If we don’t make top 4 then Suarez has done all that’s asked of him and we get a big fee due to this new contract. Good business all round for all parties.

Some players are worth all the money they get and Luis Suarez is one of those players.

For people saying he will be sold....... if teams come in with an offer it will have to be much more than 50 million. Why do we need to sell now? We have the power over the player, when players have one year left on contracts there is nothing the club can do apart from sell to try and get the cash.

We showed how much we wanted Luis to stay in the summer so why the hell would we sell him now after today????

it's a huge amount of money, but compared to some other players on a similar wage, 170k rising too 200k next season is an absolute steal the way he's playing at the moment.

A once in decade (or two) player and we have secured him in our books for the prime of his career.   We had legends galore in the 70s and 80s and Robbie in the 90s.  Gerrard was great in the noughties and now we have Suarez, a superlative player, for the next few years.   What a great day for the club!
