What a tremendous thread. Nostalgia is a funny thing isn't it? I find I can only take a certain number of images and then it becomes too painful. And the truth is I don't know Liverpool at all well, having never lived there. Even so, the ones taken in the 1970s, catapult me right back there and just for a moment it feels like today.

Do yourself a favour mate and look at the thread from the beginning, some absolute pearlers.  Just wish there was an interactive map where you could click on the street and pictures through time would be shown.

I can't get over that picture of the Kemlyn from 1989, looks from a bygone era (maybe it is!) but I had a season ticket in there at that time.

A few interesting ones in the Echo here

Goree warehouses 1874, the top of St Nicks steeple is just visible top right over the roofline for modern day bearings.

This book looks like it could be interesting, I might suggest it to my kids as a Christmas present for Dad....

Great picture that though a tad clipped...taken in 1895

From those columns on top I think that's the Dandy Pat Byrne fountain, see here in Scotland Place, L3
As was....

and then as dumped on a tip by the Philistines employed by the council...

and here now fortunately the base rescued and placed at the rear of St Anthony's RC church Scotland Road, L3 ....

Interesting site that Liverpoool Monuments.... http://www.liverpoolmonuments.co.uk/ and well worth a browse around.

Similar happened with the beacon at your end of the Queensway tunnel, just dumped.  Ironic that there's been calls from Liverpool to have Birkenhead's.

Ironically - as our two cities are so massively diametrically football-wise opposed - pretty bloody similar to working class Manchester. Two hugely powerful and influential cities of the old British Empire ( excuse me whilst I clear my throat after having uttered those last two words) I think there could just be a Victorian political and a societal reason for this lack of longevity don't you?
There is nothing wrong with striving to win, so long as you don't set the prize above the game. There can be no dishonour in defeat nor any conceit in victory. What matters above all is that the team plays in the right spirit, with skill, courage, fair play,no favour and the result accepted without bitterness. Sir Matt Busby CBE KCSG 1909-1994

Two hugely powerful and influential cities of the old British Empire ( excuse me whilst I clear my throat after having uttered those last two words) I think there could just be a Victorian political and a societal reason for this lack of longevity in our youth don't you? If you are struggling to come up with what that might be, here's a clue. It's tantamount to expressing the Tory ascendancy political view of "we'd best suppress the longevity of these breeding rabbits in both bloody places else we'll be in serious political trouble in the future".

Looks to me like the words 'You'll Never Walk Alone" are printed on the banner on the right. Which is odd because Celtic supporters invented the song ten years later in 1975.

15 Minutes of silent film: the 1st 6 taken up by an awfully boring piece about the SS Britannic at the Pier Head (the cute tugs were the highlight for me); the rest is a more interesting one about a railway exhibition at the Mystery.
If already posted before the usual apologies apply.

;D Good spot!

According to Wikipedia, it was first recorded in 1963 by Gerry and the Pacemakers and was the 8th and final selected record that the great man Shanks chose to be "shipwrecked" with on Desert Island discs on the eve of the 1965 Final against Leeds. The song was adopted by Celtic the following year after a 1966 Cup Winners Cup semi-final against Liverpool at Anfield.

Anyone ever go here?

Reason i'm asking is i'm trying to remember a game i used to enjoy there,it was a space type game where the enemy objects used to gradually lower towards you as you tried to shoot/destroy them.
Some of the things were circular which when you hit them one half would seperate & head down quite fast whilst the rest sorta hovered down gradually.
You started with a single fire spaceship which as you progressed you could dock it onto another piece to get 3x fire capability & dock it again to get 5x.
Doin my feckin head in..HELP!!
