Exeter City 0-1 Liverpool: Half time....
« on: August 20, 2011, 05:56:40 pm »
Wednesday 24th August; 7:45pm
St James Park
Carling Cup 2nd round
  v

After, nearly 6 years since our last trophy, I'd like to think we'll take this competition seriously this season, with no E
european football as well it really does feel strange entering this competition early on, we can't take Exeter City lightly though I suppose, they'll be right up for this, hopefully will be a good test for our fringe players/youngsters, lets not repeat the Northampton shambles eh? ;)

Prediction: 0-3.

Oh, almost forgot the formation, line up, and all that shit? Well I'd go with;

Doni
Flanagan     Wilson     Skrtel     Robinson
Spearing         Lucas
Meireles            Shelvey                Maxi
 Carroll

Exeter Fans on their team facing Liverpool

Great draw, I am ecstatic... only downside is that it could alert the bigger clubs to some of the gem-like youngsters we have down here...

My first time i saw City play was 1981 V Liverpool in the 0-6 win for LFC
Quote
It's 1983(IIRC) all over again. I just hope we don't get d*cked 6-0 like we did that night (and yes, I was there).
Quote
A big draw! Should be an earner whatever happens.

And good choice for a TV game: fan owned club versus 5 time European champions? Maybe the media will remember what happened last time we played supposedly top level opposition!

Maybe play Skrtel and Meireles? They both need fitness.
We have to change from doubter to believer. Now.

So it's live? Good to know.

Obviously we'll be nice to see some of the youngsters relish some game time.

Please don't waste time on Degen, Poulsen and Cole.

I can see Meireles playing at least an hour for fitness purposes. Same with Maxi. Might be an idea to give Andy a run-out to score a goal or two to help with his confidence.

Adam Morgan  should get a look in, especially if Ngog trotts off to Bolton. Tony Silva, Coady and Suso could go on the bench too.

I'd play more first choice players, dont want another repeat of the Northampton debacle.

I'd rest Suarez and Lucas, Reina and Agger, and hopefully we'd score a fair few goals.

Flanagan, Soto, Skrtel, Robinson

Henderson, Spearing, Shelvey, Maxi

Meireles,

Carroll/Ngog

I'd like Carroll to play and grab a goal or two to get his confidence up, but I think Ngog is more likely

Can't wait, love the late fixtures especially when its knockout.

I'd play:

                               Doni

Flanno        Soto             Skrtel            Robinson

Hendo      Spearing        Shelvey           Maxi

                              Raul

                              N'gog
Football without fans is nothing.

We've won 18 titles, 5 European Cups, 7 FA Cups, but today must be the greatest victory of all.

Looking forward to this, will be good to see a blend of experience and youth, with our squad as it is now we should be able to play some experienced fringe players. N'Gog, Spearing possibly Poulsen. Hope to see Coady, possibly Morgan and Sterling make an appearance as well.

Carragher

Spearing
Shelvey

Maxi
Meireles
Cole

Kuyt/Ngog/Carroll

Reckon Coady and Wisdom will be on the bench. Hopefully Sterling but I wouldn't bet on it. Wouldn't surprise me if we had a fair few senior players on the bench after last year.

Doni
Flanagan Skrtel Wilson Robinson
Spearing Shelvey
Maxi Meireles Cole
Kuyt

With a blend of experience/youth on the bench.

Would love to see Coady, Wisdom, maybe even Raheem on the pine, next to the likes of Carra, Andy, Adam etc.

Can't wait! I'll be in the home end keeping quiet. They've been utter shite this season, 1 point from 4 league games so inevitably they'll do well against us. Hope to see a few big guns on the bench at least.

tbf the only time I ever saw Pacheco look impressive (in the first team) was against Wolves when he made that wee cameo a couple of years back,
the fact he is going to Spain on loan virtually confirms he isn't part of any long term plans, good luck to the fella though.

I think we need to be serious about this game and put near enough our strongest line-up, as in pre-season we saw that when we played too many fringe players we under performed.

Something like:

                      Reina
Kelly       Carra           Skrtel       Enrique

              Lucas          Adam

Maxi                Aqua                  J Cole

                     Carroll

Subs: Doni, Flano, Agger, Spearing, Kuyt, Downing, Suarez

Flanagan at right back....as his confidence took a knock against Sunderland,
Doni will be in goals, and to be honest I wouldn't mind so I can get a proper look at him play.

I've been looking forward to this year's LC due to the lack of European football this season. Our best chance at silverware this season. Roy Evans was saying it is important to continue the momentum after the Arsenal victory. Let's not take any chances and take some of our big-hitters down there.

Carroll could do with a start against Exeter to build match fitness and goal confidence.

Team line up:

Doni

Flanno Skrtel BigGreek Insua/Robbo

Kuyt Meireles Spearo Downing

            Ngog  Carroll

7 - 0 to LFC

Exeter away will not be an easy game. Could be a tight one this, considering we will rest some of our key men. I'd like Kenny to take Suarez down there for the bench, just in case...

Been too long since we have appeared at Wembley. Actually, the fact Birmingham City have won more silverware than us in the last three seasons is annoying.

Must be taken seriously. We've been without a trophy for too long. It would be nice to pick this up nice and early in the season. Not to mention a few players look like they could use the game for fitness.
