Arguably our most pleasing performance yesterday. We kind of expect Mane to be awesome but Sturridge's excellent contribution to the team came out of nowhere. He deserved a goal for his efforts and would have bagged a couple if he was fully up to speed. Excited to see how he performs when he's sharp again. He was looking to pass on occasions where he'd usually try impossible shots so it was pleasing to see this addition to the team dynamic. While not the most gifted passer of the ball he has an understanding of goalscoring situations so he displayed an ability to create chances. This was demonstrated admirably by that delightful assist for Mane. I could watch that all day. Well done Danny! Keep it up!

We looked so much more dangerous with a focal point to our attack, his clever movement opened the space for Firmino and Mane to exploit but he also used the space others created for him to great effect.

We had five big changes in the game which is more than double we had against Arsenal. We just looked so much more dangerous in and around the box with him in the team.

For me that should be how we line up now.

Thought he was excellent yesterday. He's just so intelligent - he knows the game so well. It's a wierd one, I don't think he'll ever have the cult status that Torres or Suarez had but he's so damn effective. Easily one of our best strikers of the last 10 years.

He played really well yesterday, was unlucky not score 2 goals but was very unselfish for Mane's goal.

Thought he was excellent yesterday. Great movement from him dragging defenders all over the place. His speed also looked great, maybe a sign of some confidence in his own body. He just looked a lot more happier and got on with things. Goals will defo come from him, for that I have no doubt.

Yeah, that glance over to the right as he sees Firmino get his head up. "Where's the space? Where am I getting in? Oh they've left a massive gap there. Weeeeeee!"

I'm absolutely made up for him.
That was an almost perfect Sturridge performance. Pace, running quickly into space and working off the shoulder of defenders. Movement, making unselfish runs that created space and tracking back. His usual ball control as well as moments of sublime skill, that backheel. The only thing missing was a goal and arguably on both his chances he was just a bit too close to the keeper.
Biggest thing for me was seeing him use his speed again along with an improved workrate.

Best I've seen him since 13/14.  Yes he's continued to score goals but his all round game on Saturday answered everything people have been doubting him on.  Pace, trickery, strength, power, intelligence and team play.

That's the Danny we need to see week in week out.

Yes he played well.. Yes he created chances for others.. Yes he could have and should have scored at least 2 goals against Leicester..

But the thing that pleased me the most was his reaction and celebration after others scored on Saturday.

Humongous D can look a right old sulk at times, but his attitude was just as good as his movement and general play against the defending champions.. Long may it continue..

He has little to no chance to start on Friday. Would prefer if he gets off the bench before Origi though.

I agree that he probably doesn't start on Friday but it depends on how the game is going whether or not Klopp brings on Origi or Sturridge first.

I expect it was an injury, he didn't look upset when coming off.

Thought he was a bit subdued tonight, nowhere near his Leicester performance but still was the correct decision to start him.

Looked like he might have felt a bit ill or maybe tightness in a muscle. Wasn't happy to be taken off, but didn't seem to by anything else.

(Klopp) On Daniel Sturridge’s substitution…

"I couldn’t see that he could sprint anymore, so that’s why we had to change. We had a healthy, young striker on the bench. That’s all. The first half was really good – really good – from Daniel. We need this player there in the centre who we can play with and if there’s a ball behind the line sometimes, so that we can go there and can push up in the last line. I don’t think there is an injury, it is only the situation. Nobody told me about an injury, so all is good."

For someone who thrives on being the 'main man', this must be strange for him. All the better for us if it fuels his hunger to be even better than he has been.

One thing I and most others can be so relieved of is that the phrase ' Sturridge has a niggle ' doesn't strike fear or despair anymore.

Why?

His best form has been when he wasn't the 'main man'
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

One thing that definitely helps Danny is, other teams will become MORE wary of Cout, Mane, Firmino, Llanana, which means they will mark them, which creates space for Danny. I think part of what made him great with Suarez was people targeting Suarez. Although Luis was banned for ages and Danny still ripped teams apart.

It's looking good. I hope we get European footie this season just cause Danny is the player I'd least like to see leave!

I'm going to say the politically incorrect thing that some are avoiding - Sturridge is not our best forward. In fact, we do t have one molded into the game we play. Firmino plays there because he's better suited to the pressing style. Origi would probably come 2nd,and he presses well too. Sturridge doesn't. He is an excellent forward, arguably best English one, but he needs the team to play differently. He makes excellent runs off the ball now and then, and the team benefits from that, but the rest are carying him for most of the time when he is on the pitch. Leaving a hole uptop easily propagates in the middle in our style, and that carries the opposition pressure deeper that when Firmino or Origi are playing.

Daniel, please learn to fucking press! Pretty please!
