Walking up from Central I saw 2 new bars near my apartment. One already open called the Bodega which is downstairs and next to Nice and Naughty which is the porn shop next to L'ago and one that looks like it will be opening on Bold St very soon.

Me and a few mates are over for the Newcastle game, just wanted to know if you need tickets to get into many places on New Years Eve? Or is it mostly just pay at the door? Cheers.

You'll be able to get in most bars, paying on the door I reckon. The major clubs, which in my opinion are shite anyway, are all ticket only.

Them ten days Christmas period I go no where near the place. It's a shame because Liverpool does have a great city centre for bars, pubs and clubs. However once that jingle bell kicks in, then that's me out of there.

I've been before but just not this time of year, a bit like Dublin i suppose but we've been looking forward to this for a while as new years over here is unbelievably shite.. I've only ever been Concert sq. really, would you suggest anywhere else?

Personally I prefer Seel Street, good bar crawl down there. Slightly 'studenty' but it's laid back and less agro compared to most parts of our city centre. Loads of chicks and a good atmosphere. Hope you have a good night mate.

Me and some mates are heading up to Liverpool for the Oldham game on Friday (4 of us) and will meet 2 other lads there. Can anyone recommend a decent pub to go to on the night? Preferably near the stadium somewhere. Thanks :)

Edit: Should have read the visitors guide first. The Sandon and/or The Albert sound good and pretty close to the ground.

coming up on Weds 25th for the cup semi, going out in the town after the game. Three 20/21 year olds just out to have a good time and basically chance our luck with some of the girls up there, where's recommended?

There good mate but I would also recommend the 12th Man pub which is very close or The King Harry.

Though is a bit touristed I prefer Mathew Street instead of Concert Square, but the surroundings of Concert Square and especially Seel Street ar very nice. Love you can go from nice underground at the Zanzibar to high fashion at Alma De Cuba. The places are really unlike each other, but they're both very nice. It depends on what kind of night out you prefer, but you can also enter both at the same night if you can handle the differences. :)

I would like to know which one of Mathew Street and Concert Square the locals one on here prefer?

Neither. The area is by Alma De Cuba is called St Peters Square, best part of town.
Incidently my mate has just opened a new bar, by the same people who have Santa Chupitos, it's called El Bandito, right next to Santas. Check it out.

You're supposed to have one I think, but just try your luck anyway. If you're a couple of lads of 20ish from down South in town on a weeknight they might assume you're students and let you in. Goes without saying to not have any remnants of the fact you've been to the match on you.

Heading down and staying the night in 2 weeks for the CC Semi-Final. How busy are the week nights in Liverpool ? I take it it's mostly "student" orientated ?

Was down for New Year and it was great fun  :)

It all depends where you drink.

Some bars/clubs only open Thu-Sat. Some open every night of the week.

Even mid-week you'll find an excellent night out if you know wher to go.

I'm coming to Liverpool to see the second CC semi. Since I've never been in Liverpool (or England) before, I'd like to visit, well, a british pub. I guess it's a lot of them in Liverpool, but which ones is worth a visit? If any of you are planning to go out after the game, or any other day that week, feel free to invite me (or let me know where LFC supporters spend their evenings)! Would be nice to meet new people. :)

I'm also looking for a quiet place where I can recover from a potential hangover, and maybe get to study a bit; a café or something. Any suggestions?

If I was you I would head to the ground a few hours before kick off, and drink in a pub near there. By getting there early you'll be able to get yourself a few drinks before they start to fill up. They will be packed trust me. The atmosphere in them will be brilliant also. I'd probably go to the Albert if I were you.

After the game depends on the result really. The pubs around the ground will hopefully be rocking if we get through. So I would stay there for a while and then head back into town after. If you need any more info/advice just ask in here or feel free to PM.

Just enjoy it.
