Anfield to host All Star Charity match
« on: March 5, 2015, 01:09:57 pm »
http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/181195-anfield-to-host-all-star-charity-match

A unique charity football match to benefit the people of Liverpool will take place at Anfield later this month, which will include two All-Star line-ups of some of Europe's elite players.

The event, which has been organised by Liverpool FC's official charity, the Liverpool FC Foundation, will bring together two teams that will be selected by Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher as some of the most influential players they have played with or against.

Gerrard will take on the role of captain for one team, while Carragher will take on the same role for the other All-Star side. Managers and the final line-up of each All-Star team will be announced in the coming weeks.

Player recruitment is well underway, and players confirmed include Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres, Pepe Reina, Dirk Kuyt, Xabi Alonso, Thierry Henry, John Terry and Didier Drogba, to name a few.

Current Reds first-team players who are not on international duty will also play some part, as well as some of the Academy's brightest stars, plus the club's backroom staff will also be on hand to offer support.

Gerrard will leave Liverpool at the end of the season and this special match will give fans the opportunity to see him alongside some of their favourites - all to raise funds for the local community.

Tickets for this exciting event, which will take place on Sunday March 29, 2015, will be priced at £20 for adults, £5 for juniors* and £15 for over 65s. Disabled concessionary prices will also apply.

Proceeds raised will help to fund the Liverpool FC Foundation's community programmes, which benefit thousands of young people and adults throughout the city of Liverpool.

Funds will also support Alder Hey's new Hospital in the Park, as well as providing support packages to Claire House, Positive Futures, Centre 56 and Cash for Kids.

Tickets will initially be available to season ticket holders and LFC members from 1pm on Thursday March 5, with a general sale to follow at 8.15am on Wednesday March 11.

For wheelchair, visually impaired and ambulant disabled tickets, please telephone 0843 170 5555 and select the disability option to speak to one of our advisors.

Yeah it's the same. Thought would start a new thread given it's not really being branded a testimonial plus some of the shite in there.

What are these matches usually like?

I've never seen Gerrard play live, would this be my best chance before he retires?

Whatever people may think of John Terry, Drogba and Torres, they're giving their time to support good causes on Merseyside so it would be nice if we could hold off on the abuse for one game.

I know it's for charity and all but I can't deny it, I'm slightly disappointed by the fact John Terry and Drogba are involved. :-\

I'll be waiting for Evra and Joe Cole confirmed and hodgepodge confirmed as one of the managers before I go looking for tickets.

When Owen wasn't boo'd at the Hillsborough game I understood that. He was a bellend but certainly was a good player for us, and was irrelevant by the time he joined the scum.

With some of the c*nts involved for this it's a different story. A judas prick who left behind great fans who supported him to join fucking chelsea. Terry and Drogba are about as fucking CFC as they come, Fuckin' snides of the highest order who I'd never see play in a red shirt if I was forced too. And knowing willingly that Steven fucking Gerrard, arguably the greatest red ever is fine with that is sickening.

Can't wait til shitcoat is announced as one of the managers too

Gerrard is probably friends with Terry through the England set up, and Drogba as well as being a diving twat has been one of the best strikers this league has seen. I know we hate them, and I know they are wankers but this is for charity and they don't have to do it. It doesn't mean I excuse Terry for his multiple sins in the past, nor does it mean I'm a Drgoba fan. But let's not make it about those two, make it about Stevie and his charity and make it a good day out.

I don't get the fume, I really don't.

Whatever you think of Terry, and he's a monumental prick, he's giving up his time to play in a match, during a busy time in Chelsea's season, for Charity, in a stadium that will be full of people who have sung about his Mum loving scouse cock. He could easily have swerved this but hasn't. Fair play I say.

On Drogba. Great player. Don't hate him at all really. And by all accounts he does plenty of charity work himself.

I remember Gerrard getting booed at some charity friendly at Old Trafford and the consenus on here was how pathetic the crowd were. Granted Terry is a 'worse' character but off the pitch Drogba is meant to be alright. We should just rise above it and/or give them a bit of playful stick rather than anything vitriolic.

Probably someone Stevie admires as a player and may well know him well off the field.

Won't it make it more fun to have some former Liverpool greats and Liverpool players vs an all-star team with a few pantomime villains?
